Let us know if you need transportation and we can quote you the service with a local driver from town. We have a private parking lot at our office in Curubande where you can leave your car safe while we do the hike. Our day starts at 8:45 AM / 10:45 AM and 12:45 PM by meeting in our office located 20 min north from Liberia downtown through the small villages of Colorado and Curubande. From Curubande we will take a 4WD for 1 km that will take us to the entrance of the waterfall trail and here is where the hike begins. The waterfall is well hidden away on the outskirts of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano . The trail is 1.7 Miles (2.7 Kilometers) singletrack so together it is 6 km. There are some climbing to do in elevation and some caves to go across. Later to reach the waterfall we would have to swim 25 meters.

      All Day Hike
What a hike...through both the rainforest part of this National Park as well as the Caribbean side of the park to see lots of plant and animal life, and lots of volcanic activity towards the top. This was a fun filled day with Daniel, who was our private guide and very knowledgeable of everything we saw. He got excited about seeing the different animals of the rainforest and showing us his identification guide along the way. He didn't rush us through the hike, waterfall, mud bath or hot springs. He took multiple pictures of our family and helped us remember this once in a lifetime hike. Don't miss out on this one!

Full Day Adventure Exceeded all our Expectations
Freddy was our guide and he was excellent. We were coming from a hotel quite a distance outside of their normal range but they were very accommodating to arrange a private tour picking us up right at our hotel (adding an additional 90-mins of travel each way) for a very reasonable rate. The van was very spacious, the AC was great, and our driver handled the unpredictable traffic with ease! Freddy was very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive to my mom who was struggling with a week full of hiking activities with bad knees. Through the main park hike, he even took us in the opposite direction of every other tour group we saw so we were not in direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day. He was quick to spot and point out any animals we saw, and help us take great pictures! The one thing I would say is that do not underestimate the number of stairs to the waterfall! Freddy encouraged my mom to stay at a rest area for that part, and I'm so glad he did. I counted the stairs going down and there are 202 stairs (not including the ladder down into the waterfall), and almost half of them were on a hanging bridge so unstable (about half as many on the way up since the trail is a loop and graded like a ramp on the way back, but all were on the hanging bridge, so more difficult than regular stairs because they are unstable). My comments on the stairs are NOT complaints -- Freddy made sure my mom wasn't in a situation she couldn't handle -- just ensuring others have an accurate picture of the difficulty level. With the exception of underestimating the stairs, every aspect of this full-day adventure exceeded our expectations. The food was at the park's restaurant and was also excellent. Because of mom's bad knees, we were on the fence whether we should do a full-day out in the park, but even Mom was SO glad we went. Because there are a couple stops, there are mini rest breaks built in and you end lounging in the hot springs! I would 100% book with them again!

      Great experience
This was our favorite experience we did! We loved hiking to the waterfalls and being caught in the crazy downpour in the rain forest. Such a cool experience! Lunch was fantastic and so we’re the mud baths and hot springs. Perfect day!

Beautiful views, amazing guide, and well worth the money. Mud baths, waterfalls, cliff jumping, and so much more.
From start to finish, amazing experience. Freddie was an outstanding guide and led us through a rainforest hike that led to amazing waterfalls. Swimming, cliff jumping, and it even rained on the way down, making it an even more amazing experience.

The volcano was amazing, the waterfalls breathtaking and the hot springs such a fun experience! Jonathon shared so much of his knowledge with us about the park as well as Costa Rica. I 10/10 recommended this tour and company!

Best thing we did in Costa Rica
Everything about this experience was amazing, and our tour guide Jonathan was excellent! We learned so much about the volcanoes, and about Costa Rica in general. Jonathan was very informative and made everything very interesting. The volcanoes were such a cool experience, the waterfall was absolutely gorgeous, and the hot springs were a perfect end to the adventure as it was relaxing and fun. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Jonathan also recommended some great restaurants and accommodations in the area, it’s an understatement to say that he went above and beyond!

We learned a lot and had a great time. The volcano was very cool and interesting, the waterfall was BEAUTIFUL, and the hot springs and mud bath were a relaxing and great way to end the adventure. Can’t say enough nice things about our tour guide Jonathan, he was fantastic. HIGHLY recommended this adventure and company in general.

      Great Day!
Had a wonderful day with our 5 Star guide Freddie. He led us on a long hike thru desert terrain then through the forest. We then took a swim near a waterfall followed by lunch and finished up at the hot springs. I would highly recommend this tour and hire Freddie. Great day.

Very knowledgeable guides, Steve and Daniel. They taught about plants, ones we could eat and ones that were natural medicines. They pointed out animals as well. They made us laugh the whole way with fun animal noises and jokes. They found cool places for the kids to jump off rocks and go down slides. However, they were very accommodating for people in our group who wanted to go a safer or easier route. We paid a little extra to go just our family, and it felt very personable and special. The guides took amazing pictures of our family by suggesting cool places for photos opportunities. We took a waterproof phone case!!!

Together with Guide Steven we made a nice hike to La Leona Eaterfall. Steven guided us smoothly through the river and on the way he told about the plants and animals around the river. To get to the waterfall you also do a bit of canyoning, but it is fine if you are a smooth hiker. It was a really nice experience!

Greeted by a very pleasant, informative, and helpful owner we had all the knowledge amd expectations to set off. Your vehicle is left in a very safe and private, monitored parking lot.

The hike wasn't difficult. Filled with beautiful scenery, it was a great balance of hike to water crossings.

Our tour guides were young and full of energy. They were "the show" at times showing us just how the Ticos (locals) like to enjoy life and how to make the most out of having fun in the mountain river.

The waterfall is amazing. Secluded, powerful, and sight to see that you'll never forget.

My husband had conversation with the young guides most of the time asking questions and discussing both sides of life, here and back home in Canada. Dahby entertained him the whole way pointing things out and both of them learning new language along the way.

If we make back it back here again, we hope to see them all again.

We booked this tour when we travelled to Costa Rica in October 2024. We had been to CR on several occasions but had never been to La Leona. We went to the waterfall and also did river tubing as a group of 4! Our river tubing experience was just the 4 of us so having the privacy of our group only was great. Our tour to the waterfall only had one other couple.
We were guided in both tours by Joshua and Steven. I’d rate them both 10/10 and would highly recommend them! They were so fun and knowledgeable and we felt completely safe the entire time!
The waterfall was absolutely stunning and the hike was easy with lots of cool things to see along the way. The final pull along a rope in the water was definitely tricky, but our guides made sure that everyone made it to the waterfall.
Joshua and Steven took photos of us with our phones along the way and showed us wildlife and had lots of facts to share. The river tubing experience was also a lot of fun! There were class 1-3 rapids along the way and our guides gave us clear explanations and instructions on how to go through them. Well worth the money and the time! Highly recommend this tour, especially if you get lucky enough to spend your day with Joshua and Steven!

The hike to the La Leona waterfall was one of our favorite Costa Rica adventure! Our guide Stephen gave us an excellent private tour. He expertly navegated us through all difficult passages and made this experience one of a kind. Our tip is to go on one of the afternoon tours (2 or 3 pm) as it was less busy than the earlier tours. We had the waterfall all to ourselves. Everything was absolutely amazing. We loved everything single moment of it. Don’t miss this!

    The highlight of our trip
Our family of four (parents, teens) all thought this was a highlight. We were paired with two other people and had about 2.5 hours of river, woods and waterfalls.
This was an excellent way to spend a day out of the sun and beach. We drove about two hours from Tamerindo after booking the 1pm tour on airbnb. Our guide David was quiet but competent and friendly. We wore watershoes for the hike and river part. We stopped and jumped off a cliff, waded streams, climbed over some boulders, through small caves (I am very claustrophobic especially in cave situations - this was not that kind of experience). When we got to the waterfall in the cavern it was fantastic. We swam for about 30 minutes. A really great day and memory.

I did a lot of research before booking with Guanaverde Experience. They did not disappoint! We were two families with ages 15-64 and everyone LOVED it! Steven & Joshua were the BEST! They kept the energy high, helped those who needed it, and pointed out plants and wildlife along the way. This was an unforgettable experience and, without question, we will be back!

Great excursion! Owner and guide (Stephen) were prompt and friendly, Stephen was informative and entertaining, and the area was beautiful. There were more people than I expected, but all the guides seemed to communicate well and we never really felt too crowded. Thanks for a great experience!

This was the only excursion in Costa Rica I didn’t enjoy. The hike was extremely difficult, and we couldn’t reach the waterfall. At the end, we had to swim through a cave with dangerously strong rapids—like white-water rapids—which made it impossible to get through. Despite being young, fit, and working out regularly, I couldn’t get halfway without almost drowning, and even our trained lifeguard friend couldn’t make it. To make matters worse, the tour guide was unfriendly and showed no concern when I told him I was stung and in severe pain. You can see how swollen my fingers were. The tour should’ve informed us about the water conditions beforehand, especially since we ended up not seeing the waterfall, despite paying a lot for the experience. It’s clear they knew about the conditions, as the guide mentioned it was his second trip of the day
