Our visit lasted 1 1/2 hrs. We bought the 3 euro booklet.
It is 2 farms joined together.
Signing is a little innacurate at times and not always matched up wiht the numbers in the booklet. Well looked after. Looking round as a group coud be quite challenging as inside spaces are qute small.

This is a lot more than we expected, we wandered around here for a couple of hours in the cool of the caves discovering this very unusual way of life. The inhabitants were obviously very resourceful and able to adapt their dwellings as they needed. It particularly came to life with the various photos in some of the rooms, and especially so with the La veillee des ombres audio visual. A surprisingly fascinating piece of history.

We found ourselves with a few hours to kill on a Sunday before making our way up to Caen for the ferry home and decided on Rochemenier simply because we'd picked up a leaflet at our hotel and it wasn't too far off our route to the port. I'm glad we did. Interesting, informative and, on a hot summer's day, cool this is not your usual troglodyte dwelling in the mouth of a cave but part of a more extensive underground village dug out a few metres below the fields.
