The Center is a big step forward for little Jamestown and an impressive effort. The exhibits are all interactive and link you to a central computer which helps select your choices and interests among the hundreds of comedians featured. Because of COVID, occupancy is limited to 25% of design capacity. I can’t imagine being there on a 100% capacity day.

We were signed in, temperature taken, stylus issued, photo taken and interests logged into the main frame computer. Access to each exhibit was limited to a single family and even at 25% capacity, we had some waiting. The Center recommends you take three hours for your visit, We took two but I could imagine a true comedy buff taking the entire day.

There is no particular route through the museum, so you can find yourself wandering. Most exhibits run continuously and I found it difficult to know when the program for that space ended or if it was being transitioned to a new segment.

Staff on entry were very helpful and friendly, but I didn’t find any staff within the exhibit spaces. There is a gift shop at the end of the route, but we were surprised that there was no coffee shop or cafe. After even two hours, we were ready to sit and have a cup of coffee.

Finally, Jamestown is Lucille Ball’s home town, but there was barely mention of Lucy in the Comedy Center. The reason may be because there is a Lucy Museum one street over from the Comedy Center. I understand that both museums are the brainchild of the same person and that for an additional fee you can buy a master ticket to both museums. The dual admission is not much more than a single, but it was not at all clear that Lucy and Desi would have no presence in the Comedy Center.

I fully expect that as COVID is controlled and the Center gains experience, things will feel like they are running smoothly. But, if you are a comedy fan, don’t wait. Go now!

We purchased combined tickets through a package at our hotel for both the National Comedy Center and the Lucille Ball Museums. My husband loves comedy and really enjoyed our time at the Museum. They went out of their way to assure that COVID restrictions and safeguards were addressed and we felt totally safe while there.

What an amazing place. So glad I went there. Could have stayed for hours and hours. They did a real nice job putting this together. Props, costumes, stages, films, radio shows, TV. Places to sit. Places to create and design. They go all the way back to the silent films. Newspaper comics. Huge place. Goes on and on. Make sure you get a map to cover everything they have. They advertise the "interactive" displays. You get an arm band. You spend a long time keying in your likes which,I guess, get programmed throughout the museum. You get a head set, but mine didn't work, or I couldn't figure out how to work it. Most things I could hear without it. Lots of things to read. All sorts of comedy including the dirty
x rated garbage- which was hard to take, but people around me loved it. Staff was attentive and would wipe down different areas after we finished playing with the display. They advertise that it's a safe place. I still wear a mask. This is really a terrific place to visit. Amazing!!!!

Be prepared that paid admission comes with an attendant that follows you around watching for when the masks drops too far down your nose. I spent 98 percent of the time alone in each room; besides her, with my nostrils covered. Apparently it's policy to harass visitors who aren't wearing their mask to their liking. Can't say much about the exhibits since I wasn't allowed to experience them without her interruption.

They say they match up the experience to your humor. Well, they don't very good job. I was paired with the one stye indon't enjoy at all. Cut my trip less third since the harassment quickly outweighed the chance of being amused or even entertained.

We went to the museum on a day that wasn’t very crowded. We were able to utilize all of the interactive exhibits for an extended period of time. I’m not sure if we would have enjoyed it as much if it was crowded and there was limited access. It’s much more than a who’s who of comedy. There are numerous aspects of the art form addressed throughout the exhibit. We were there for four hours and wish we had more time.

We had heard about this museum when researching going to the Lucy and Desi museum. First of all, it isn't clear on the website, but you can visit these on consecutive days with a combo ticket. It says here and on other sites to plan 3-4 hours. We could have spent 2 days here. The exhibits are very interactive and the place has tons of clips. You can watch them for hours.... so decide what your goal is before you go.

As you enter, the interactive exhibit asks you about your taste in comedy by asking you to select comedies, comedians and movies you like, then some algorithm pulls up clips and info that it thinks you will like throughout the museum. The museum has displays of comedians notes, scripts from TV shows, stand ups, movies, costumes and clothes. They start you up in a comedy club. And it plays clips of many comedians, gives a short clip on an aspect of stand up and then you can select another clip.

Then they take you into late night, many more clips, looks of the late night sets etc. Then there are more exhibits from funny props, animation, sketches and improv, TV shows. All have so many clips. Scripts and clips, guess which comedians.... and so much more.

You then have the option of going up to the over 21 blue room, where it gets very raunchy. My very favorite was so many clips of Friar roasts throughout the years. Definitely rated R. Excellent displays.

Then you go through comedy awards, some interactive displays, you can be green screened into several comedy clips.

The interactive displays are easy to use and very advanced. They have disposable gloves, where needed, lots of hand sanitizer and a stylus to activate the displays.

We loved it and would definitely go for a second round. Everyone who worked there was friendly and helpful.

I visited the Center and also the Lucy Desi Museum. Great idea to have a dual admission ticket to both that saves money. Also liked the free parking lot and coat/bag check. That way out of town visitors and/or people on bicycles or motorcycles don't have to carry around their jackets or bags. Both the Center and the Museum were well panned and very interactive. I especially liked the display/videos of Johnny Carson shows and celebrity roasts. You get to pick the ones you want to see. The Lucy Desi Museum has many photos and personal effects and is a must see for any Lucy fan.

What a wonderful array of comedians and history. This presentation was well done especially with the interaction with artificial intelligence. We got to see and hear about various forms of comedy including some of more risqué monologues.

It was broken into various rooms with different types of entertainment. We also got to connect with the likes of the other patrons. This was truly unique. This is a must stop if you’re in the area.

We came two years ago, and were able to come back again. First, they have full measures against the covid virus: temperature checked at entry; hand sanitizers throughout; disposable gloves; and non-contact displays.
That said, it was fun to get back. There is a wide variety of viewing displays and interactive displays. Plan to spend several hours as once you get started on a site it keeps going and it may be difficult to move on.

This has to be one of the top museums in the US or anywhere for that matter. Because we were there when it was winter, we had the place to ourselves. It’s beautifully designed, exhibits are top notch and you will laugh all the way through it. The history of comedy is represented from vaudeville onward with stand-up, late night, television and movies, etc. It’s just fun and funny. Don’t miss it.
