          Awe inspiring turtle trip
Absolute awe inspiring turtle trip. Very professional service and a knowledgeable guide in Leo. Initially before the excursion I feared we may be intruding on what should be a natural and stress free experience for the turtle. However minimising the impact we humans make and ensuring conservation is at the heart of the experience quelled any fears. Witnessing something so majestic, in close proximity, was a once in a lifetime experience. To see a turtle lay their eggs, cover them and return to the ocean was majestic.I highly recommend this trip/company to anyone visiting Cape Verde. It really excelled all expectations!

          Adults Only Turtle Watching
The adults only turtle watching was a great experience, the guide, Kenny, was very educational and gave us all the information we should know about the turtles and how we should respect them, he was helpful, and the overall egg laying was amazing and not something everyone can tell you they have done. *please listen to the guidelines when they say to wear black*

Turtles the thing to do in Cape Verde, go do!
Fantastic. It's dark and you use infrared, but what a thrill walking in the dark, spotting a turtle lay their eggs. Magical stuff if you are an animal lover. Most people were respectful and keeping their distance, but there is always one!!

          Fantastic experiences!
Marta was so helpful in booking a shark paddling experience and snorkelling, it would’ve been great to see the turtles nesting/hatching too had we been in the right season - but snorkelling with them was an experience of a lifetime! Thank you

          Turtle watching
We were met by a very knowledgeable guide who gave us a detailed brief about the turtles and how we needed to behave when near them. We then walked a short distance along the beach before seeing the first turtle leave the water. We sat and watched her lay her eggs before covering g them up. During this time 2 other turtles came onto the beach nearby and then we saw 2 more as we returned to the base camp. There was no hurrying us to stick to the suggested time, we had to fit with the turtles so our scheduled 2 hour trip lasted nearer 4 hours. This was an amazing experience.

Great location at Sierra Negra with plenty of turtles and no people. Well organised, informative and friendly team. Check out the stars and planets overhead too while on the beach. Amazing skyscape.

          Excellent
Absolutely loved it very good service and great to see these beautiful creatures. Saw the loggerhead turtle and rescued some baby ones which had just hatched up through the sand and got their heads stuck in a plastic bag , untangled them and popped them back on the sand and off they went into the ocean to hopefully return in 17 years to lay their eggs. Marta and her staff were very informative and what I liked was she only took out small groups . Would definitely recommend 🐢

          Turtle watching
Went last week, the guide was a marine biologist who had a significant knowledge of turtles and had previously worked as one of the rangers. We went to a fairly remote part of the beach where we were given a full explanation of the turtle egg laying process. We were told that patience would be the key. It did take quite a while for a turtle to appear. Our guide along with the rangers ensured that we could all see everything whilst not disturbing the turtle. From start to finish the trip lasted a little short of 3 hours. Guide was excellent both in his knowledge and being able to explain in simple terms. The only down side was that due to a little rain the day before there were mosquitos and most of the group got bitten. All in all it was a wonderful experience and I’d highly recommend it.

Loggerhead turtles in Sal Cape Verde
Wow what an absolutely wonderful experience this is! Wasn't 100% sure as to what we would actually see but what we did see was truly amazing! First of all Marta and her team (didn't quite catch their names sorry!) gave a wonderful and very interesting talk all about the turtles and their lives. Then we went looking on the beach for nesting turtles and in a very short time we saw one. Camouflaging her nest. We were so close and it was just lovely to watch. Then we found one that was laying her eggs. To get right up close to witness this without her realising (due to using infra red light) and knowing that we wasn't disturbing her, was an amazing thing to witness. When she had finished, watched her go off to see was beautiful. I loved everything second of this trip and if you love nature, it comes very highly recommended. Thank you to Marta and her team for such a special trip that I will cherish them memories for a very long time xxx

          Magic Marta (& Alex)
There is always a dilemma when considering this type of excursion; to see nature as it should be, but not to impact on it. I’m glad to say that Marta (& Alex) were exemplary, although we managed to get really close and personal we were properly briefed and managed (in the best way). After an off road ride to the beach, Marta gave us a glimpse into the life of the loggerhead turtle and explained what we were hoping to see and importantly, how to behave. Using red light so that we didn’t impact on the wildlife, our small group of 10 moved out across the beach, along the shoreline. There was a half moon and a clear sky, so no lights were needed and just to walk along in the moonlight watching the waves roll in was fab. There was plenty of evidence of previous turtle activity and it wasn’t long before we had our first sighting. It was humbling to see these ancient creatures move up and down the beach and although we didn’t get to see egg laying, we did experience arrival, camouflaging and departing. At all times we were controlled so that we didn’t impact on this wonderful activity but were still able to be involved and better understand what we were witnessing. I booked this through Viator and had the usual flawless service; Marta kept me informed and updated as needed. She was knowledgeable, passionate and professional, if you can get Marta (& Alex) you can be assured that you will get an experience you will remember, whilst protecting this wonderful spectacle.

We done this trip “Turtle watching/experience” whilst we was here July 24
Although the trip was not too expensive and included return transport we’re not completely sure we would advise any one either way to do this trip.
You are picked up & returned in the dark of night, our guide advised us as a group that no bright lights are allowed or permitted as it would confuse the turtle which way to head to after coming out of the sea to lay her eggs
Almost, right in front of you, it was quite difficult to see anything as only the guide had a small red torch, and once out of the transport set of fast across the sand dunes in the darkness, not ideal at all unfortunately.
So, would we do it again , definitely not
Would we say this trip is for children or family’s, probably not
Could you do this trip if you have any difficulty in walking, definitely not
Would we recommend this trip, just make your own minds up , but don’t expect to see much & go as early in the evening as possible too
        Thanks Mark x

Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify that our turtle watching tour includes a glamping tent experience, an informative briefing, and refreshments upon arrival at the beach. We also provide clients with red torches to ensure safe arrival at the beach. Once there, we minimize the use of red lights to avoid disturbing the turtles, while ensuring that guests can observe the entire nesting process, including egg laying, covering, camouflaging, and returning to the sea. We believe your experience might have been with another company. Please direct your review to the appropriate provider. If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to contact us.

A dream come true to see a loggerhead turtle laying her eggs on the beach.
Our guide Luna gave us some very interesting information at the start of the trip and then we headed to the beach.
We were lucky to see a turtle, this is a wildlife experience so they cannot guarantee that you will see one. The whole experience was conducted very professionally with total respect for the turtle so that it was not disturbed in any way.

We were very lucky to see 2 lots of hatchlings, which was a joy to watch. As we are late in the season, it was looking increasingly unlikely we were going to be able to witness the egg laying as the evening progressed, but the guides persevered and stayed much longer than the experience was advertised for when they thought we had a chance of witnessing it. Sure enough, we were fortunate enough to see it and it was truly incredible. The commitment and perseverance of the guides was very admirable and they did their very best to ensure we got to see this phenomenom, for which we are truly grateful

        Beautiful experience
Nice to see how the turtle makes her nest, how she lays the eggs and how she goes back into the sea
Good guide with lots of information
Too bad they say we are not allowed to take photos because they send all the photos they take by email. They only send a video with photos from other days and usually from the day and not from the excursion itself.
Tip: take your own photos, even though they say it's not allowed.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience with us. We're delighted that you enjoyed witnessing the turtle's nesting process and return to the sea, and found our guide informative. Regarding photography, our request to refrain from taking pictures during the excursion is to minimize any disturbance to the turtles, especially due to the possibility of accidental flash photography. To provide a more comprehensive experience, we send a video with photos and videos collected by our team during the whole season where you can see the whole nesting and hatching process of the loggerhead sea turtles, although we understand it may not fully represent your specific excursion. We appreciate your feedback and will consider it to enhance the experience for future participants. Thank you for joining us on this special turtle adventure.

Struggled with this as you’d hope that any tour would be licensed and respect the turtles natural habitat as they come onshore. But this tour never mentioned this and was expensive (£130 for 4 and 16 of us in total) and you will literally driven 1/2 mile to a public beach where lots of other ‘tours’ were using the same beach to take ‘guests’. It was very busy and I saw two turtles abort their approach up the beach because of the sheer number of people and lights around. This needs sorting through an appropriate and policed licensing system. Nothing I saw was ‘eco’. Far from it.

As an experience it was amazing….but….

Thank you for your feedback. We want to clarify that you did not book with our company. Unlike the tour you described, we limit our groups to a maximum of 12 people and provide a glamping tent for a thorough briefing on the rules to protect the turtles. We also take our groups to less populated beaches to avoid crowds and minimize disturbances. We would highly appreciate it if you could remove this review, as it is posted on the wrong company profile. Please verify with the company you actually toured with and share your feedback with them directly. Went on the adults only tour at approx 9pm. After a talk we walked down to the beach with only infrared light so as not to scare the turtles. We saw 3 turtles throughout the night. The guides and experts were great, they kept us back from the turtles until they had dug the hole and then we watched as they laid their eggs and watched them full the hole and return to the sea. An amazing experience. Only 10 people per group and no flash photography. Our guide answered all questions and was lovely. A group photo was taken at the end and emailed to everyone.

Very well organised and great communication. Lovely greeting and intro from Josie and Leo. Experienced turtle laying eggs and burying them; It was amazing. Joined another group, rather than find another turtle and so didn’t have the best view.
Only disappointment was length of experience as we were only on beach for half an hour, I expected longer. From that perspective while obviously an amazing experience I felt it was not good value for money.

Thank you very much for your feedback. We really appreciate it and we will forward your review to the team to let them know how we are doing. I believe Jossy and Leo tried to find another turtle only for your group but couldn't, so decided to let you enjoy the one with the other group as it was perhaps the only turtle at that moment on the beach. I also believe that, once the turtle that you witnessed the whole nesting process with returned to the ocean, they asked all the group if they liked to stay a bit more on the beach to try to find another turtle or go back to the hotels, and the majority of the group were tired and wanted to go back. Our appologise if it felt not enough time on the beach. Please contact us and we will give you a second chance for free to come again and enjoy a bit more time on the beach with this amazing wild animals. All the very best and thanks again for coming with us and taking your time to give us your feedback and help us to improve our service.

My advice to all tourists: do not miss this experience and do not do this without a guide, totally hire Sea Life Experience, in this way you know the do's and dont's of sea turtle watching. Respect these animals, their life is already challenged as it is. Leave your cell phones at home and aborbe this with your own eyes and not through a screen. The guide, as most people from Cape Verde, very communicative and warm. We saw three turtles from half meter distance, one was already laying eggs, the other two coming out of the ocean. Pity that one of them got scared when turists without a guide came wondering about with flash lights.

Obviously the best part of the experience was to witness a turtle laying her eggs covering and camouflaging her nest and the magical moment she returned safely to the sea..
Marta is a lovely bubbly character and a wealth of turtle information assisted by her colleague Daniel who scours the beach to find a turtle for the group to observe.
The whole experience is magical and we can not thank marta enough..
The group photo, video and turtle related gift will always be a fond reminder of a fantastic time.

Picked up on time ✔️ Briefing in the tent before seeing the turtles was very informative. Offered drink, which we were thankful for as it was a warm evening, and a snack. Wasn't sure if we would be lucky to see a turtle but it wasn't a long wait until our guide was radioed that a turtle was laying. Bit of a trek, or seemed like it, on the beach and rocky and hilly in parts, so glad I'd worn trainers not flip flops like some. The email did say comfortable shoes! Seeing the turtle laying eggs was a wonderful, mesmerising sight and we were lucky to see another one in a different area of the beach laying too with another turtle next to it covering up it's nest. We also saw the original turtle, quite far away, heading back to the water and another one slightly nearer going back to the water although I was still watching the laying turtle and the one covering it's eggs so didn't see much through the legs of others from the group. The guide asked if we would like to see the turtle who was finishing covering her eggs going into the sea so 3 of us stayed to watch as the rest went back to the bus. Was grateful for him staying a little longer so I could see this more closely. A very special evening.
