The guide picked us up and we drove to a place at the beach 11 km north from Stone town, where fishermen offer their fresh catches to a fish auction. There, our guide bought the fish for lunch. Then we went by car to the Kidichi Kitchen, where we could help preparing the ingredients for lunch together with very friendly cooks. While the meal was getting ready, our guide took us to the spice farm and explained us all the different plants like cinnemon, nutmeg, lipstick fruit, maniok, and a lot more. He also explained us the medical use of the plants. Our guide has a very profound knowledge of the plants and knew every answer to our questions. The staff is very friendly and has a good humour. We had a great time together! Thank you very much for this nice day!

My friends and I spent nearly a month traveling around Tanzania, both mainland and on Zanzibar. The Kidichi Kitchen Experience was by far one of the best things we did the entire time we were there. Their whole team is very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about local cuisine. It was fun going to the local fish market and seeing what local life is like. Their spice farm was full of different spices which they told us all about and were eager to answer questions on. The cooking area where we prepared the food was very clean and well maintained. This experience is definitely worth it! Certainly a great way to spend an extra day in Stone Town.

We had a very memorable experience at this Kidichi Kitchen, Rurals Zanzibar. Especially the part about cooking together, this was the best part that made me learn that doing things together helps you gain different knowledge from others and make something amazing by sharing what everyone knows. For me, this was the best experience and I recommend especially the youth of Zanzibar to go and have this memorable adventure and learn different skills from others. This will help them be more team working at their working life.

The Kidichi Kitchen Experience was an amazing experience led by a wonderful guide and team! They were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful in all aspects! We went to a local fish market to gain insight into the fishing trade and local life which was great. We then did a tour of the spice farm led by an amazing guide. Lastly, we cooked lunch using fresh spices, fish that we bought and produce around the farm in a clean and spacious cooking area. If you want to do a spice farm trip while in Stone Town, please book with Kidichi Kitchen Experience!

This was a great way to experience authentic Zanzibar, away from the bustle of Stone Town.
Our guide, Mcha, spoke fluent English and was the perfect host as well as translating where necessary for the three ladies who helped us cook. After stopping for some very fresh fish at the fish market (where we saw no other tourists) we travelled about 10km to the spice farm. After a quick snack and cup of lemongrass and ginger tea Mcha and a farmer took us on a tour where we picked some spices and vegetables to be used in our lunch as well as showing us many others growing.
We then returned to the thatch roofed “deck” to start cooking. We cooked and then ate a feast - octopus soup, kingfish biriani, prawns, fried kingfish, plantain, spinach, coconut rice, some very tasty potatoes in a spicy sauce, a hot sauce and fresh juice. What you cook on the day will depend on what is available and fresh. Cooking was on traditional charcoal stoves and we experienced flaking coconut using a traditional coconut-flaking seat. The pace was perfect - unhurried and with the balance between us cooking and the team helping out just right.
We left Stone Town at 9 and got back just after 3pm. Food hygiene standards were good and we were encouraged to wash our hands frequently. The deck had sinks with running water and the toilet was a few steps from the deck and was clean. There was ample cold bottled water.
This was the perfect way to spend our last day in Zanzibar before our evening flight home. We left with full bellies and fond memories. We wish the team at Kidichi every success with this venture.

My mom and I did this experience during our 5 days in Zanzibar, and it will be one of our favorite memories! From the start, Peter confirmed the booking and times the night before, and I appreciated the organization. Our guide Mcha and our driver met us right on time and we started at the fish market. We were the only tourists but Mcha made us feel comfortable and included as we bought a fish at auction. We then drove to Kadichi. All the way up, Mcha gave us very interesting background on Zanzibar and he answered all our questions. At the farm, we met the team, including the chef Asma, and several of her wonderful assistants and staff. The farmer Abdul led us around the farm, and we picked or saw mangos, starfruit, nutmeg, allspice, oranges, jackfruit, spinach, eucalyptus, and more! We headed back to the kitchen and had a snack before we started prepping and cooking. We got to crack coconuts, fry shrimp, slice mangos, and more as we helped prepare traditional foods via traditional methods. Through it all, Asma and team and Mcha were kind and helpful and giving us all kinds of information. We all ate the meal together (at our request) when the food was ready. Then Mcha even called our transfer driver that would take us to the hotel to meet at a better, less congested area to shorten our ride home. I would highly recommend. Pointers: prepare for all day. Consider your footwear as you will be in the fish market and walking around the organic farm. Don't be afraid to dig in and get the full experience!
We are especially grateful to Mcha for his explanations and help. He even took lots of photos and videos for us so we could just keep working without stopping for photo ops. We had a great time!

This was an awesome tour that brought us to a traditional fish market, walked us through a spice farm, and then brought us back to a pavilion to cook what we saw/harvested together. The guides were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about all the different fruits, vegetables, spices, and fish that we had, and they explained traditional medicinal uses, cultivation, and preparation for everything. This tour combined several experiences that I saw marketed as separate tours during our stay in Stonetown, and on top of that it was a all-around fun day. Would highly recommend.

It's a nice experience we get to know how Zanzibar people are living how they cook and everything. The trip started at Ngalawa where we bought fish for our cooking experience than head to the farm where we havest what we are going to cook it was such a great experience than we were welcomed with love to the kitchen where we had a little talk and started cooking with the staff and management. The preparation was so lovely we enjoyed every thing we did the whole management was so cooperative when we were done cooking we end by eating what we cooked and that was the best moment the food was delicious .It's such a good place to go it's a trip of a whole day but I promise it's a place which you won't regret to go each experience was lovely and memorable.

I recently read an article about happiness. One of the recommendations was to always try to look for a silver lining to make everyday life and work more interesting. The Kidichi Kitchen Experience was the silver lining to my business trip to Zanzibar in April 2023 (YES some of us go to Zanzibar for work, not just fun!). I only had one day off and since I have been to Zanzibar many times and seen quite a bit I decided to spend it on the Kidichi Kitchen Experience. I really enjoyed everything about it, the busy fish market, the walk through the spice farm, the cooking experience and of course the delicious meal at the end! I've taken both my family and guests to spice farm visits in Zanzibar and had I known about the Kidichi Kitchen Experience earlier I would have aimed for it instead. It gives you so much more! I had a great day with lovely people!

I had an amazing day learning to cook Swahili food and integrating with the locals at Kidichi Kitchen. I love exploring the culture and the food of the places I visit. At Zanzibar, I only had a very limited amount of time. My host at the Zanzibar Palace recommended this experience. I got in touch with Peter who organised this experience at a very short notice. I loved it. We went to the sea front and bought fresh fish at the auction. The fishing boats just arrived from the sea. We then drove to the spice farm where we learnt about the different spices and harvested fruits and vegetables. Then we spent the rest of day cooking and eating Swahili food. Samira is an amazing chef. She cooks the best rice I had tasted anywhere in the world. Abdul is the friendliest guide. Thank you so much, the Kidichi Kitchen Team!
