Last cruise, few whales
Aug 2021 • Couples
Whilst the boat and crew were terrific. No complaints there.
But I learnt that this was the last cruise if the season out of Augusta. So the booking office obviously knew whale numbers would be limited. In fact I asked about the number of whales to be seen at this time of the season and I was assured there would be plenty of whales to be seen. We saw one pair, obviously stragglers.
We could have taken the tour from Dunsborough just as easily if I had known.
A little disappointed. The whales were heading north

Hi bearone, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Every tour differs with how many whales you see, some can be only 2 whales just as you mentioned, or had you joined us in the morning that same day I was advised by our crew that there were indeed plenty of whales sighted. They move through the bay at different times and the pod numbers can vary. They were not stragglers, as there is still whales moving north from Albany which means there are still whales coming through in good numbers. Our Dunsborough season has not yet commenced so unless you waited a few weeks this option would not have been possible. I can guarantee we never say to anyone that you will see plenty of whales, as we know that this varies from day to day, tour to tour. We would have assured you however that whales were still there to be sighted and on the chance that you don't get to see any whales you could join us again for free.

Excellent time!
Jul 2021 • Couples
We went whale watching towards the end of July and it was excellent! The crew members were so friendly and knowledgeable and the charter boat was great! Plenty of space and places to lookout for wildlife. We were lucky to have two whales breach, a few tail flips and plenty of dorsal fins and blowhole spouts, plus a a very friendly pod of common dolphins, including a baby which was beyond adorable!
Would definitely go on this tour again! Highly recommend!! :D

An Excellent Morning
Jun 2021
We had an excellent morning on Alison Maree with an excellent skipper and crew. We encountered Humpbacks as soon as we left the boat harbour and enjoyed a morning full of activity including competition pods. The dolphins also made an exciting appearance. The crew were knowledgable, friendly and always available for questions. I would recommend this company for any of the tours and fully intend to book the Orca trip.

A GREAT MORNING OUT
Jun 2021
Whilst most of the whales were having a day off due to the very calm conditions, we did come across a few which made the day quite interesting.
Full credit to the staff on this boat (Alison Maree) as they were all professional informative and interactive.
I spent some time up in the wheelhouse with the skipper and he seemed genuinely interested in what you did and where you came from .
The boat itself was extremely comfortable with plenty of viewing opportunities for everyone. We had a nice fine day however if the weather was a bit blowey then there was plenty of seating for everyone inside.

We will definetly be back in Augusta and repeat the cruise.

We had a great morning on board the Alison Maree on Friday and were lucky to have a sunny day. The staff and crew were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. We saw a number of whales, despite not getting quite close enough for that perfect photo opportunity. Thank you for the experience. My husband and I were glad we went.

Whales, more whales, seabirds, and other wildlife
Jun 2021
I joined the "Alison Maree" and her crew for the morning tours of Friday 11 and Saturday 12 June 2021. Two completely and contrasting days in terms of Humpback Whale activity and weather.
Friday was cloudy, a bit breezy and had some light rain. The whales were in abundance but were very cruisy with little breaching, flipper or tail slapping. We had some very close encounters whilst stationary, where a couple of Humpies came up to the boat to check out the humans. The weather seemed to suit the seabirds with Indian Yellow-nosed Albatross, Gannets, Wilson's Storm Petrels and others in attendance. On leaving the tour, I flippantly asked the Skipper (Dundee) to order some breaching whales for Saturday morning. He delivered...
Saturday was sunny with Flinders Bay very calm. The Whale activity was noticeably different to the day before. There were at least two or three competition pods about with fin and tail slaps plus multiple breaches. We saw fewer seabirds (mostly Gannets) but had some dolphin surfing the bow wave and wake on a couple of occasions.
So, two tours that were very different but equally satisfying to a die-hard whale junky.
