By far the best trip you'll ever get. Sofia takes you away from the tourist area and makes you feel like a friend. We had an entire beach to ourselves!

I have to brag on Mahahual Ecotours. Business owner, Víctor, has an extensive educational background in archaeology and anthropology plus a deep love for animals. Víctor gave us a really in-depth tour of Chacchoben Ruins as well as a history lesson on Mayan life and history. Mahahual Ecotours also does kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, and his favorite, birding. Víctor also has a nonprofit that assists with discovering creative ways to solve for human animal conflict with jaguars in the region called Proyecto AAk Mahahual A.C. Great company all around!

Victor was very friendly and knowledgeable. He shows great respect for the environment and shares his views on preserving the rich Yucatan nature.

Victor is awesome! He took us to the Chachhcoben Mayan ruins outside of Mahahual. He picked us up from port, chatted about Mayan and local history during the car ride, and was a huge resource of information. Victor shared so much more than a typical tour guide. He knew about local history as well as ecological and animal life in depth. Victor is an avid conservationist with a keen knack for telling stories that move you. He even took us to lunch and sat with us as we dined in a local favorite for ceviche. I highly recommend Victor for a customized and top-rated tour!

We spent a VERY INFORMATIVE day with Victor Rosales. He is the most knowledgeable guide that I have ever met. He is a native of the Yucatán and very interested in the eco and economic wealth of this region. He is Mayan but speaks very good English. He is a historian in this area, he is a bird-watching maniac, and also understands the economic needs of the people that actually live here. We did a tour of the Bacalar Fort and also a boating tour on Bacalar Laguna. It was an amazing day! I would highly recommend this guide above all others! I now want to do a kayaking tour of Rio Wach with him. I think his nature skills are in the same category as his historian skills. Thanks so much Victor!

We did a tour with Victor to Bacalar of the Fort and a pontoon ride on the lagoon. Everything about the day was great and tailored to us. The knowledge and passion he has as a certified tour guide is phenomenal. We weren't aware that Bacalar was so full of history, dating back to the Mayans. I could go on and on about the information he shared of the Mayan people, Pirates, Spanish, and the importance of the lagoon, but it's best you go experience yourself. Victor is your guy (guide)!

My wife and I had a fantastic morning of birding with Victor last week and I give him my highest recommendation! He picked us up right outside the entry to Costa Maya Port and as soon as we introduced ourselves the birding began! Our first bird was hooded oriole and very soon thereafter two more orioles ( Altamira and black cowled ) , as well as masked tityra, and a black headed trogon , followed by a long look at gorgeous ferruginous pigmy owl. This was all in town on our way to the Victor is a true environmentalist, and he has multiple projects dedicated to protecting turtles as well as jaguars, and of course birds. We drove to the property of a local farmer whom Victor is working with in an effort to turn his farm into a birding destination ( ecotourism in progress) We saw amazingly diverse birds there including Golden fronted and lineated woodpeckers, yellow breasted chat, rufous peppershrike, white bellied emerald , squirrel cuckoo , red lored parrot , roadside hawk, barred antshrike (!), yellow throated euphonia, red throated ant tanager , and many others. We were then treated to a delicious lunch cooked from scratch by farmer’s wife.

Victor Rosales is a true gem of the Yucatan! He is kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about this beautiful place. We went kayaking in the mangroves. What a day that was! Victor took care of everything, making it a great experience for all of us - even those of us who were older and not quite as agile as we once were! His love of this area is contagious - he is a one-man ecological wonder! The lunch we shared with his fishermen friends was a highlight of the trip. He took wonderful photos for us to remember the day. All around a fabulous experience. I would highly recommend him as a guide and look forward to meeting up with him again. If you are looking for a guide - Victor is the one to choose.

From start to finish this was a grade A excursion/day. Victor was personable, easy to communicate with and constantly put me on to good birds. From 5 laughing falcons, to aracari I was able to get 22 lifers. Just a really special day. He made it a point to continually check on us to make sure we were comfortable through the tour in its entirety. Even had the chance to taste some tequila with the locals 😂😂. Thanks so much Victor, hope to do this again!

Great birding experience in the mangroves with Victor. The adventure was 3 hours and we saw 30 different species. Highly recommended.

Victor was awesome. He’s so knowledgeable and you can tell he’s got a passion for what he’s sharing with you. He had pictures and even some replicas that we could touch to help bring to life found artifacts!! We came away with so much information and truly had an enjoyable time! My ancient ruin tour was delivered with extensive historical knowledge. Heart warming passion was expressed by my guide for his authentic Mayan heritage and ancestry. Beautiful insights to ancient wisdom that has always been there for us to learn from.

He'll be in the middle of telling you a story of Mayan history and stop mid sentence, grab his camera and point out another cool bird. Then go right back to his story. Victor has an excellent knowledge of history of Mayan civilization and native plants and animals. Victor gave us a great history lesson on the way to the ruins. Continued to share the experience of the area surrounding the ruins as we walked in this beautiful place. You could tell the pride Victor felt for his Mayan heritage. He showed us things that only someone from here would have or know. He took us to lunch in a secluded lagoon at buena vista restaurant it was an awesome experience. Could be the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Don’t wait til you get swarmed by the tourist taxi drivers reserve with Victor to get a one of a kind experience. Also Victor talked about his awesome work conserving turtle and Jaguar populations. What an amazing person.
