Profession, enjoyable, informative! I learned a bunch of informative details about the Mayans and the ruins at Chichén Itzá, had a relaxing swim and a really good lunch. We toured out of Valladolid, which was around 45 minutes or so, nice to get there early and beat all the tour buses coming in! Would highly recommend this tour company.

We did two full day tours around Valladolid with Nefi to cover Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Cenote Ik Kil and Ria Lagartos and had a wonderful time. If you want to do private tours or need flexibility, Make Your Own Tour is the perfect option. Nefi was professional, flexible and patient with our group of 6 (with 2 kids), and also very friendly - we enjoyed our conversations in the car as much as the visiting the sights! He was able to work with our timing, and adjusted the itinerary as requested along the way. He carefully watched over our boys as they climbed up Ek Balam - which is very very steep and not the safest/easiest of climbs - he helped us all stay safe and enjoy our experience. Would have loved to hire him for our entire trip, but it was peak season and he was booked out. Recommend reaching out early to make reservations!

We had a wonderful private tour experience with Nefi, he replied to me right away and went above and beyond to create an enriching cultural offering for my children. We enjoyed our time at Chichen-Itza followed by an incredible authentic and unique dining experience at a special place where they taught our children about the beehives and how they produce honey and also provided lessons on how to make fresh tortillas followed by an authentic cenote swim. My family enjoyed it very much and I highly recommend Nefi and his team for their professionalism.

Booked with Make Your Own Tour thanks to the reviews on tripadvisor and Nefi was quick to reply and priced competitively. I was travelling with 4 small kids (aged 2-10). Let me tell you...these guys were amazing!! I emailed Nefi at 12:20pm asking if we could do a tour of Ek-Balam that afternoon. He confirmed and shortly after 1pm, his uncle Lemuel shows up ready to go. Private bus just for us. As he knew we had an infant, they even had a car seat installed, waters for everyone..the perfect welcome! Lemuel was fantastic...very knowledgeable and extremely helpful and fluent in about 5 languages! Took pictures of us on the tour, knew where the clean bathrooms were and knew where we could find reasonable priced items if interested. Very safe, secure and very flexible. You don’t need to worry about anything...they are a family run business and they treat you like family. We had lots of fun at our resort but the kids say their favourite day was at the ruins with Lemuel. My sincerest thanks for all your hospitality and I wish you all the best in the future!

Our family of four had great private tours of Chichen Itza, Coba, and Ek Balam with Nefi. We highly recommend it. The Sunrise Tour of Chichen Itza that he suggested was a jaw dropping experience. We paid extra to guide us at all these sites as well, which was well worth it. He is very knowledgeable about all of the sites and answered a lot of our questions. He was always prompt, courteous, flexible, patient with the kids, and very informative. We changed some plans because of our young kids getting tired and he rolled with it. We decided to add Rio Secreto last minute and he helped buy the tickets and took us there. He also took us to an incredible cenote at Ek Balam. We were the only people there for over an hour. We traveled by either van or car, both with AC. We preferred the car as we travel without a lot of luggage and are not big people. But he is so flexible just indicate your preference. We saw cops pulling over rental cars (rental cars in Mexico have a different license plate) several times and were so glad we booked with Nefi. We saw two rental cars pulled over by cops at 4:30 am near Cancun airport. He also has a cooler at all times and provides cold bottled water. In addition he took care of transportation to and from Valladolid from the Cancun airport. He also arranged for transport to Cancun airport from our Cancun hotel for 1/3 of the hotel cost for an airport shuttle. Our time with Nefi was well worth the price. We never felt nickle and dimed. His advice was helpful and we never felt like he was trying to take advantage of us. His suggestions helped us avoid crowds. Its worth it to always go early to the ruins. It’s cooler and quiet with less tourists. The price he quoted was what we paid (excluding a well deserved tip). We also tipped the bike taxis in Coba and Ek Balam. Nefi was prompt in email communications prior to arrival and responded to text messages even in the evening once we arrived. We hope to book with Nefi in the future to explore Uxmal and ruins closer to Mérida.

We wanted a tour of Chichen Itza and Cenote Ik-kil with our 8 and 3 yr old boys where we do it at your own pace. We got exactly that with Nefi and Make Your Own Tour. Nefi, you have to excuse me for the delay in posting a review, but booking a tour with MYOT was one of the best decisions I made in Cancun. If you have a family with small kids, I strongly recommend this trip. It's customized to your personal preference. The schedule is totally up to you. The price for the trip was $490 excluding the professional guide which was $60 extra. You can always negotiate and I negotiated to include the guide for the same price. But after the trip I ended up tipping $30 more as I was really happy with the service we were provided. We would definitely hire them for our future tours too. We stayed at Omni Cancun. Gabriel picked us up at the Hotel Lobby at 8 (this is the time we decided) and we were in Chichen Itza at around 9. Mind you, Chichen Itza is one hour behind Cancun. It's approximately 1 1/2- 2hr drive as we took the toll road. I suggest visiting Chichen Itza early to beat the bus tourists traffic as well as to beat the hot scorching sun. It can get really hot. Our kids were really tired just for staying 20 mins in the hot sun at Chichen Itza. I can't even imagine what our situation would have been with those long bus tours. Gabriel was really warm. He made sure we were comfortable all the time. He treated us like royalty from the start to the end. Everything from buying tickets at Chichen Itza and Ik-kil to renting life jackets in Ik-kil he did it everything. He acted as our unofficial photographer too. Gabriel hired a professional guide at Chichen Itza who was very knowledgeable. When our kids were struggling in the sun, Gabriel borrowed an umbrella from the guide for our kids. That was really sweet of him. Personally, I felt from the look of it, how Chichen Itza is a one of the wonders of the world but I think more than the looks it's an engineering marvel. Coming to Ik-kil, it's one of my best experiences in Cancun. If you like water, I definitely recommend it. In summary, I would say if you have a family with small kids, for the price you pay, it's worth it, and believe me, you wouldn't repent your decision.

We wanted a "Go at your own pace" tour guide for our visit to Tulum with our 3 and 5 yr old girls. We got exactly what we wanted with Nefi and Make Your Own Tour. I found his website on a family travel blog and I'm so glad I did. We thought the price was reasonable for what we wanted so we booked it. He arrived at our hotel on time, provided cold bottled water for us throughout the day, answered all of our questions about the area, and provided two car seats for our girls for a very small fee. He also took pictures of us at the Gran Cenote with his own camera and sent them to us later. He was very patient with us and we are very grateful. We would definitely recommend this tour group!

Our friends at Make Your Own Tour are great. I contacted them a few weeks before we arrived to arrange airport transfers to our resort as well as a tour during our stay and then transport back to the airport. The driver was right there when we came out of the airport and quickly we were off to our resort. The driver returned to the airport later in the evening to pick up part of our family traveling from another state and delivered them efficiently to the resort. During our week in Playa we had a great tour that we designed ourselves to meet the desires of our children and their spouses. We traveled in a clean air conditioned van first to Coba and then to Tulum where we toured both ruins - expertly guided by our personal tour guide Nefi from Make Your Own Tour. In between these two stops we had a good authentic Mexican lunch that was included in the price of our tour. Then we went to the beach and got on a boat that took us out to the reef where we swam with sea turtles and rays and a few barracuda. It was a delightful and full day. We felt safe - the tours were fun and informative and adventurous and the driver was excellent. We always include our friends from Make Your Own Tour in our visits to Mexico and I highly recommend them.

If your idea of fun is to go where no one else is going, and do what no one else is doing- you should call up Nefi and schedule a day of fun and adventure. We travel extensively with our 4 kids and try to find places and things to do that are exclusive and off the beaten path- that's what we got in our day with Make Your Own Tour. We swam in a ceynote, through underwater tunnels and saw awesome formations, did zip lines, had a delicious lunch and snorkeled with sea turtles. We were never rushed, or crowded with other groups. In some places, it felt like the the entire place had been reserved just for us. When he picked us up (right on time, nice a/c van), and told us everything we would be doing- I honestly thought "yeah- right- that's just the best case scenario- maybe, if we're lucky we'll do all that." But we did! Our group ranged in age from 60-8 and everyone could participate and be excited. Our tour guide was very good at explaining things and telling us about the area. We've thought of a million things we'll ask him next time! :) Their prices are terrific- our entire day cost us about what a 1/2 snorkeling tour would cost through our hotel. An amazing, fabulous day.

We found Nefi from his profile of Cancun, and the reviews are amazing, He took us to Chichen Itza, Cenote and Ek Balam, everything was excellent and we enjoy his knowledge about the Mayan history and his own experience of life. Was in a private van, he is able to fit small or large groups, we arrive before the crowds, he was always one step before the others, the lunch and cenote where amazing, and next time we'll contact again, next time we would like to go to Tulum and do some snorkel with him.
