About
Head out for an ice walk on Abraham Lake in search of the methane bubbles that have made the area famous. Your guide will take you to one of the best spots on the lake for ice bubbles and quirky ice formations. Where we go depends on the conditions but Preacher's Point, BATUS Camp, Belly of Abraham and Hoodoo Creek are some of our favourites for this tour. Ice cleats, a professional guide and our own made-from-scratch hot chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers are all included. You will be meeting your guide at Abraham Lake for this tour.

An amazing morning out on the ice at Abraham Lake with JP from Pursuit Adventures. JP did not just provide us with the best locations and conditions to view and experience the bubbles of the lake, he was very knowledgeable about the area and provided valuable technical photography tips. We highly recommend a guided tour by Pursuit Adventures

Such a magical place to visit. My husband & I booked the Cline Canyon/Abraham Lake Tour where we enjoyed winter hiking to the ice shelf - the beauty of which made me gasp! We enjoyed a terrific lunch on the shores of Abraham Lake before heading out on to the lake to discover all of the magical ice bubbles. Our guide, Brett was very informative and held true that the tour was ours. The proper equipment was provided and Brett gave us good instructions on the usage. Brett is a great ambassador for the area. Danielle made a lovely lunch. We were well taken care of and would do it again without question.

We had a phenomenal experience earlier this month going on two private tours with Pursuit Adventures.

The first tour was the Cline River hike down to a valley with frozen-over ice falls. It is an easy to moderate level hike and our first time with ice cleats. A few hills up/down and one steeper path down the valley.
The second tour we went on was the ice bubbles on the lake. We stopped at two places, the first of which was at Windy Point for a quick overview and wind-speed test, and the other at the ice bubbles at Abraham Lake (they scope out the best spots so you get right in there).

The experiences were actually quite contrasting. The hike is a longer endurance intensive activity that in the trees provides some shelter from the wind, whereas the ice bubble walk is a less-intensive tour that can get windy and breezy cold on the lake (dress warm for this one).

They practice safety first and provide you with the necessary gear for an optimal experience, including poles and ice cleats that were sharpened well. You really get a good grip with them. If you come unprepared, they offer snow pants and jackets. The guides were very helpful, did not leave anyone behind and have great information. The hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows was a very nice touch to end both days. For COVID protocols, we met at Nordegg Canteen with masks and took our own vehicles to the sites.

I recommend using Pursuit Adventures if it’s your first go, as they will be there to maximize your enjoyment AND safety (they frequently measure the ice depth to ensure it is still safe for their customers). After posting pictures on social media, some relatives tried the DIY method – they drove for hours, visited the lake, were unprepared and attempted to find the ice bubbles, but to no avail... they thought they saw the “ice bubbles” but it was just the frozen-over lake and rocks underneath.

Please indicate if you found this review to be helpful as it will help me better focus my future reviews!

What an awesome experience! JP is very knowledgeable about the area and creates a personable, relaxed yet professional experience for his guests. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend pursuit adventures for anyone considering going on one of their tours and I would definitely hire them again for future adventures! Thank you again for the fantastic day!
