About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Gdac760 contributionsFantastic experienceFantastic experience! As experienced horse riders (and owners) my main concern is always the welfare of the horses in these places. The team at Cape Trib look after their horses superbly, you can tell they love their horses and take care of them very well. The horses were all in excellent condition and knew their job well, a great experience for both beginners and seasoned horse riders. Although only able to walk, it’s not a problem as there is so much to look at when riding that you don’t miss the fast work. The managers and guides were knowledgeable about the surrounding ecosystems and general information about the Daintree. Throughly recommend!Written 21 September 2024

This is a must do experience in FNQ, totally unique and a fabulous way to experience Myall Beach with the backdrop of the Rainforest and the Turquoise waters and fringing reefs off the beach. The crew were fun and friendly and took great photos of us on horse back. An experience we'll never forget. Thank you so much. We signed up as a group of 4 friends & got a 20% locals discount from the $129 price.
The ride went for about 1hr 45 which was a good length and included a short tutorial on how to handle the horses (who were ex-race horses and very well trained – perfect for beginners). My horse Bella was a beauty and fantastic to ride.
There are 2 guides between the 8 of us on the tour and they each looked after a small group each.
Steve was the leader and did an admirable job teaching us how to ride the horses and gave lots of excellent information about the local area as well as the history of the horses and his own background as a rodeo rider and horse wrangler. I loved listening to his stories and hearing about his experience, especially starting out as a horse rider when he was 15.
The ride takes you through rainforest, over a creek and a road, along the river and onto Myall Beach for photos. We got to do a trot with the horses for a short stretch which was a lot of fun (I learned that there are 4 gaits – walk, trot, canter and gallop).
We were incredibly lucky to see a 3m saltwater crocodile basking in the sun along a sand bank just before we got to the beach – you pay $30 to a croc tour to see these beauties so it was an excellent bonus to see one by horseback on the tour.
This is a great local business worthy of everyone’s support. Get up to Cape Trib and have a go on the horses.

100% recommend - we had crazy winds but we had the best time on our horses Zambooni and Slide - they are big horses but they are tame and very well looked after. Even going for a drive to the property is beautiful. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We saw butterflies, moths, eagles and wild hogs ran in front of us it was crazy. I love Cape Trib and am so happy we went for a drive out there. Ferry costs $39 return to reach destination but there's an awesome burger restaurant over there so definitely leave some time and stop at Mason's Cafe on the way.

We went on the horse ride on the beach. The staff were very professional and helpful, helping 2 non-riders like ourselves with the helmets and getting up onto the horses, leading us down through the bush and onto the beautiful beach with lots of interesting talk about the area. There was more than enough staff riders to make sure everyone was well taken care of and was safe. The young man was exceptional in his professionalism as was the young American lead rider. We were highly impressed and would definitely recommend this experience to anyone who wants to have a look at the area in a slightly different manner other than bushwalking or driving. Fabulous!

What a wonderful trail ride, my son was very nervous and the team there were fantastic and managed to get him on and loving it. As for the rest of us they matched us up with horses based on our abilities. We all thoroughly enjoyed the ride and the knowledgeable leaders and would definitely recommend it to everyone. The Scenery and nature through the Daintree is amazing and is a absolute must do when visiting. Thanks guys, we will definitely come back!!

Despite overcast and rainy weather, we loved our beach ride at cape tribulation. Seeing the rainforest and beach from horseback added memories to visiting the cape rather than just seeing it. I was lucky enough to be near the guide who shared lots of knowledge about the various plants and bird life we passed.
But most of all we were so grateful that they accommodated us turning up late due to a different activity running significantly overtime- they were very kind!

My friend and I were running almost an hour late to our afternoon tour (due to the ferry being much busier than we expected) but when we rang to let the staff know they were very accomodating going above and beyond so that we could still go for a ride! they let the rest of the group go ahead and very kindly kept a guide behind to take just the two of us on a private tour! we were still able to complete the whole trail at a slightly faster pace which suited us perfectly. our guide was really friendly and had great knowledge of the area sharing lots of little facts and stories with us along the way. despite making their day extra long once we got back to the stable the staff gladly let us hang around to pat a few extra horses and watch them eat their dinner! coming from a race horse family I was pleased to know their horses are thoroughbreds that have been rehomed and retrained to be the perfect trail mounts. the horses have so much space to freely roam around the property and lots of yummy grass as well as fresh lupins to eat! thank you cape trib horse rides for a great afternoon 🤠🐴🌴

Our girls spotted the flyer for Cape Trib Horse Rides during a recent trip to Port Douglas and fell in love with the idea of riding a horse on the beach for their birthday. The experience was excellent and the girls were not disappointed. They both loved riding Topaz and Billy.
The staff were friendly and relaxed and, despite the kids never having ridden a horse, were good at making everyone feel included and welcome which gave them a sense of confidence.
The horses too were very quiet and well natured. The ride itself was a gentle walk which suited us as inexperienced riders. Here is a comment from the kids: 'the ride was very comfortable and Billy was very obedient'. 'It was great fun and I enjoyed steering Topaz'.
Thanks for a wonderful birthday experience!

A group of us thought it would be a lovely idea to do the afternoon horseback riding tour on our weekend getaway.
Due to having minimal phone signal and no internet we decided to pop in in person on our way to Cape Trib a few hours before the tour started and were hoping there was availability.
Getting out the car we had a chat to Steven, who ensured there were enough spots and booked us in for that day. Nothing else was said. Due to us also going to some swimming holes and the beach, some of us were wearing swimmers, with tops over. Not necessarily modest but nothing shocking to be wearing in the jungle.
A couple of hours later our friend dropped us back off at the stables in the exact same clothes as we wearing during our encounter earlier. Steven greeted us with a loud and aggressive “You can’t be serious!” and asked my friend if she really wanted to go horse riding looking like that.
I automatically though he was talking about sun protection and offered my friend my sarong to put over her. This however, was not was Steve was getting at. He referred to my friends’ breasts as “puppies” and shouted that they will come flying out and will go everywhere and kept saying it was disgusting. He did not stop there but continued to have an entire temper tantrum in front of all the other guests repeatedly saying puppies and how unbelievable it was and that it was written all over the website. Notice, we did not have access to, nor did we book on the website, what does it exactly say on there? No puppies allowed?
Steve continued this hissy for several minutes. Apart from the fact that what my friend was wearing was totally fine (a black mesh top with a bikini top underneath) and old mate Steve was happy to stare at her so called “puppies” earlier without saying a word, the matter could have easily been resolved by Steve apologizing for not telling us about a dress code earlier, and maybe offering us some shirts or something for the time being to keep us safe from he sun?
Instead we decided not to participate on the trip and give such a sexist old man any of our money. Good old Steve lost out on $600 and we had a fabulous day doing some lovely walks. We hope Steve has learned to respect women and not to refer to breasts as “puppies”

I have sat back and thought about this review, and still it seems just a attack on a staff member that stood his ground as we in the world now know , that going outside your insurance carrier's guidelines can result in a business being closed down , Steve has been with this for 14 years and as he was interviewed about these claims he still stressed out that no one is going dressed in a bikini bottom and top as well as a pair thongs on horse back
You may argue as much as you want but other customers where there that day and expressed there concern as well ,let's not mention that 2 of your friends even called you names that i will not repeat on this site

Unfortunately this is a very tired old operation and it shows in every aspect of the tour. Driveway is in terrible condition, parking is unclear, stable is extremely rough (although looks like a new one is being built), horses are uncomfortably thin and weary looking, guides smoke cigarettes throughout, and interesting aspects of the rainforest are dotted in tokenistically but with none of the enthusiasm and passion for this region that other local tour guides have. There is minimal range available for people who have previous riding experience and once on the beach, horses just stand around being manoeuvred by the guides on the ground while photos are taken. Low tide meant that the idealistic images shown in advertisement were not even a possibility. I felt very disappointed with this tour. Felt sorry to be riding these horses.

Thanks for the review, and yes the operation is getting a make over our wish to have all finished by July this is coming true! , clearly on our website it displays that we are a walk only ride and are here for the beginner rider , guides are under strict rules no smoking in front of guests! , our apologies that we can’t control the tides ! ,just a curious question if you are so concerned to have to put this on TripAdvisor why did you not raise your problems with the manager at the time?

Unfortunately my time at Cape tribulation horse rides were not enjoyable. As a massive animal lover it broke my heart to see these beautiful animals suffering in extreme heat on a daily basis. Being in saddles from 10.30 am till 4.30pm everyday in the extreme heat of cape tribulation.
If anyone truly cared about these animals they would not be forced to do two rides daily , 6 days a week in such extreme heat.
The poor horses had very bad cracked hooves , skin missing from the saddles rubbing , masses on some of their backs from where the saddle was rubbing ,bites and stratches and some horses were lame and clearly needed to be retired as they were old and had alot of trouble on the rides especially oscar.A business like this should not be allowed to run in the summer months of North Queensland. I also witnessed Jerry a very kind and good man who actually cares about the horses at that business get utterly abused verbally by Steve over something so irrelevant, apartenly this has been a on going thing for a long time . The staff deserve better and so do the horses . Everything in this review is all truth as God as my witness. Please don't support animal abuse .
