- tiaha20220 contributionsGreat tour!!We really enjoyed the day, Iain is a great guide - he knows so much about the forest. We were happy we went with this tour rather than some others which seemed like you only had a short walk through and not much info. Not sure why there aren’t more reviews, it deserves more hype.Written 26 July 2022
- Emily_Wanderer0 contributionsFun interesting tourIan took us out for a fantastic 2 hour walk exploring the beauty of the Daintree Rainforest. He is a fun and very knowledgeable guide with a great sense of humour which made the tour more enjoyable. Has a lot of interesting facts and stories about the rainforest up his sleeve so you won’t ever get bored! Money well spent.Written 19 July 2022
- LeighAckland0 contributionsRainforest walk with IanWe went on a walk through the forest with out guide Ian. It was really interesting to spend time here and observe the trees and plants. Ian pointed out the different types of trees and a bit about the history of the place, including how he is helping to preserve it.Written 6 April 2022
- Lauren D0 contributionsInsightful experienceThis was definitely a highlight of our time in Cape tribulation. Ian was so knowledgeable and able to answer any questions we had (and we had many!). He kept us well entertainment with his banter and eagle eyes to spot anything worth looking at, we even saw zombie fungus! Would definitely do again and highly recommend to those interested in knowing more about the rainforest than what initially meets the eye.Written 24 July 2021
- WorldTravla70 contributionsCreatures of the NightA friend and I signed up for the guided night tour with Ian. Ian was excellent and had an impressive knowledge of the botany & biology of the Daintree. We saw a few katydids, spiders, lizards & cane toads, though we did not see snakes or the Bennett’s tree kangaroo as others have reported. I have no doubt most of the rainforest creatures of the night detect humans with flashlights a mile off, so my advice is lower your expectations of seeing exotic creatures aplenty & just enjoy the commentary and being in the rainforest at night. The highlight for me was the stop at a fast flowing rainforest creek which was spectacular at night and the part where we all turned off our torches & watched a bed fungi glow in the dark Cost was $42 each for about 2 hours.Written 10 July 2021
- 324spenceg0 contributionsMagical!Ian has a wealth of knowledge and was very informative. He knows every tree, plant, fungi and animal like the back is his hand and is all too pleased to answer any questions you have about the Daintree. He caters each walk to the groups fitness and capabilities. We could have walked through the forest all day listening to the history of the rainforest and how each plant and tree has its own story and place there. The views are just magnificent, the trees are on a gigantic scale - don’t forget to look up but also watch where you’re walking. We much preferred this to our own self guided boardwalks found up and down cape trib road. I highly recommend going on a guided tour with jungle escapes. Particularly Ian - he was a real and refreshing personality with great banter and knowledge. You get to see a part of the rainforest not everyone does and it includes a 2000 year old tree! Yep that’s right 2000 years - a strangling fig in all it’s glory. What are you waiting for? Get to the Daintree!Written 26 May 2021
- brentonjc0 contributionsFantastic night tourMy partner and I had a wonderful time on Ian’s night time tour. He was incredibly engaging and knowledgeable on the fauna of the area. - tatum_channing0 contributionsVery knowledgeable tour guideIan was a great tour guide. Was just my partner and I for the 7:30-9:30pm tour. We come across spiders, lizards, marsupials and other creepy crawlies. At the end we turned out our lights and waited for our eyes to adjust to admire the glowing fungi. Was pouring down with rain, but still worth doing! Just keep your electrinic devices in snaplock bagsWritten 9 April 2021
- 525lachlanc0 contributionsTwo amazing rainforest day walksDoing these walks made us appreciate this special rainforest so much more than we would have if we just did the boardwalks. This was because the rainforest growth up here was more impressive and immersive, and Iain was such an amazing guide. He is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the environment that you can't help be in awe and feel lucky to be there. We loved it so much the first time that we went back to do another, and would have done a third if we'd been staying longer. Do yourself a favor and do this tour!!Written 29 January 2021
- dcraig99650 contributionsSomething special and different at Cape TribThis was something different. Our reef trip was cancelled due to high winds so we jumped into this one. A really cool experience walking through the rainforest at night with a torch. Our guide was very informative, knew the forest like the back of his hand and took us on a fabulous journey for about 3 hours. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Cape Trib.Written 5 November 2020
- JasonS46630 contributionsBennett’s tree kangarooHad an amazing time out on the jungle escapes night walk. We were lucky enough to see many different species of frogs and even got lucky in seeing several Bennett’s tree kangaroos. I’m a wildlife photographer and was able to get some awesome shots. Not to mention the friendly guide Ian. Who has amazing knowledge of the area. Highly recommend and I will be back 📸Written 29 October 2020
- BHW4006PP0 contributionsExciting, novel experienceFantastic tour through the Daintree at night, would have still enjoyed even if we saw nothing, but we saw a fair bit of wildlife including forest dragons, spiders, tree frogs, melomys. Ian was an extremely knowledgeable guide with over 20 years experience of the area. If you’re in Cape Trib and want to do something different go support this local tourism. Worth noting that the parent company which comes up from a Google search (Jungle Surfing) has closed down but these night tours still run.Written 9 October 2020
- erinaus250 contributionsFascinating night tourMy friend and I had a great time spotting spiders, cane toads, beetles, slugs, birds and more. Ian was a fantastic guide, he was friendly and shared his local knowledge with us. We learnt so much about the Daintree’s incredible array of flora and fauna, which we were able to refer back to when doing other walks during the day. It was a fascinating experience, we would both highly recommend.Written 12 August 2020

I was very privileged to have a private night tour of the rainforest with Ian 10 days ago when I was up at Cape Tribulation and no one else showed up! Ian has 20+ years experience and is an incredible source of knowledge. He also has an eagle eye and could spot animals and insects that I would not have seen otherwise. I took the opportunity to ask him every single question I had, including how to distinguish the male from the female huntsman spiders. It is also really relaxing to walk at night in the forest with such an incredible guide, listening to the sounds of the forest, contemplating trees, some that are 800 years old..A MUST DO tour when in Cape Tribulation, highly recommend it. Bring cash! and insect repellent! :-)
Note: If you don't have a car or simply wanna walk a bit more that evening, the walk from Fern Tree Lodge up the road to the meeting point is only 15 minutes.

Thankyou for your kind words.
I am glad you enjoyed your tour, one on ones can sometimes feel a little awkward, this was not the case on this occasion it was fun! We are here to showcase this fragile remanant of Gondwana and hopefully inspire the desire to conserve such important elements of our beautiful planet regardless of 'profit & loss' even a tour for one is another oppurtunity and motivation for me to get amoungst it, thank you

We participated an amazing night tour in the rainforest, during about 3 hours. Our guide was very professional, knew the forest's every inches and had 20 years of experience. We saw exceptional animals like leaf tailed gecko and green tree frog. Our group was very small means 5 people and tour was a unique experience.

Even in poring rain... it is well worth going on the night walk! Ian, our guide was super knowledgeable, knew the area extremely well and was able to spot lots of life. We were able to see a few Boyd’s Forest Dragons, Frogs and some bioluminescent (glow in the dark) mushrooms!
If you’re up in Cape Trib for the day or the night it’s well worth jumping on one of these tours. Amazing.

Booked a night tour with Jungle Escapes for 25th Feb 2023 through Marty at Visit Cairns - printed off our voucher, which told us to go to the starting point (end of Camelot Close) at 7:15pm. We waited from 7:10pm to 7:40pm but no-one arrived. We tried the number (+61407734702) a few times but it went to voicemail each time (we also left a message). We then walked back along the 1km ish road and didn't see anyone along the way.
A shame as this was what we were looking forward to the most in Cape Tribulation, and the previous reviews were so good. We were very disappointed with the whole experience.

Hi Jennie
We are truly sorry!
We tried to contact you however the contact details provided to us just received a “message send failure”. We messaged Marty on the 18th Feb to inform him that your booking couldn’t be done & we couldn’t contact you & we had to close tours till March due to the fact that due to the recent rains we have had to close our trails for customer safety and minimise environmental impact from foot traffic on sodden trails. We operate through Old Growth pristine Rainforest in a World Heritage area and we take our obligations to protect and preserve very seriously. We sincerely apologise and would be more than happy to provide our experience to you free of charge if you are ever in the neighbourhood.

One of the highlights of this walk, is learning that people like Ian are doing their part to protect parts of the world that would otherwise be ruined by commercial development. The experience itself was great and Ian is incredibly knowledgable. We walked in September 2022, which is unusually cold so quite pleasant for us. We spotted both a short nosed and long nosed bandicoot, leaf tailed gecko, green tree frog, Boyd's forest dragon, a few huntsman spiders, glowing lichen, and were educated on the various flora and fauna in the area.
I must admit that I was nervous about heading out into the rainforest at night, surrounded by bugs and with threats of snakes and spiders, but the experience was far from that at this time of year. Thanks Ian!

Thank you for being a kindred soul and caring about the world we are handing to those that follow. We are stocked you enjoyed our experience, perhaps you can revisit when the forest is really 'cranking'; Summer and Autumn, and we can try and get that extra star.

We were a small group of 8. It was such a privilege to experience this amazing rainforest in the dark. Ian was so helpful prior to booking and his informal humorous talk and walk through the forest was a joy. Whilst the mammals exercised their right to stay hidden we did get to see lizards, spiders, frogs, insects, bugs and wetas up close and personal. Going through the rainforest in the dark with torchlight was a unique experience, my husband and I learnt so much about the unique habitat the Daintree Rainforest is. Would certainly recommend.

So so grateful for you taking the time to post this positive review and were appreciative about our small group ethos. It is a difficult balance. Never ‘all about profit’ however, we would love to take everyone who wants to go but wildlife and forest well being are paramount. We are stoked you had an enjoyable experience. Our tours are more spontaneous than pre-scripted some don’t ‘get us’ glad you did.
Thanks again

This was a high light of our trip to cape tribulation. Our tour guide had such a love and passion for the rainforest, so much knowledge and an eye like an eagle. He really made us appreciate the forest for what it was, and he appreciated us so much for doing his tour. I felt so safe as I was very scared to be walking through the pitch black, even when he made us turn our touches off to look at the forest glowing in the dark.

This Jungle Escapes tour was absolutely amazing and a must if you enjoy wildlife and nature. A big thank you to Ian for getting me situated - I had a hiccup with my reservation the first night but he allowed me to move it to the following night. The night of the tour itself was so incredible. Up in Cape Trib for a week, I had gone on quite a few “night walks” myself on the Dubuji boardwalk. This experience was unparalleled though - exclusive access in unlogged rainforest… during the rain. Nat (I believe that was her name?) was our tour guide and she was super informative and was able to spot all sorts of plants and critters and tell us about them. We saw snails, stick bugs, crickets with MASSIVE antennae, heaps of spiders, bioluminescent fungi… but the highlight of the night for me was seeing not one, but TWO Boyd’s forest dragons. I was very pleased by the tour’s approach to the wildlife. They asked us not to shine our lights at them due to them sleeping at night and their sensitive eyes. I don’t think a lot of tours would have that same respect for wildlife. To add to the ambience of the tour… 1/3 of the way through, a deluge of rain began. But hey - that’s the rainforest. Huge thank you to the Jungle Escapes team for making my last night in Cape Tribulation so wonderful!

Such a pleasure to guide people with a holistic view of the experience of being in the forest at night. So many ‘wildlife accountants’ who are so focused on what ‘critters’ they did or didn’t see, missing out on the magic and majesty the forest offers up.
Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed as they are ‘wild’. We usually see a good representation of those seasonally around and if you can ‘Attenborough’ it up even bugs can be interesting if you know their story. So glad you enjoyed, have a great life and keep that ‘glass half full’ view of the world.
