What to expect
  • Make your own way to the dock to board your 37-foot (11.3-metre) Naiad Rigid Inflatable Boat, a vessel designed for conditions in the Southern Ocean, with comfortable seating for up to 24 passengers, full sun protection, and onboard restroom facilities.  Depart from the Granite Island Causeway and cruise slowly between the mainland and the northern side of Granite Island, taking in views of both the Victor Harbor shoreline and the island. Your first stop is Seal Rock, where New Zealand fur seals and Australian sea lions bask on the rocks and swim past your boat. Continue past the Bluff and Wright Island, and pass through Shark Alley where your captain shares informative commentary about the region's whaling history. Go past Petrel Cove to West Island, a conservation park that is home to a research station. Most visitors don't venture to this remote area, but it offers a chance to see another colony of seals and sea lions, numerous seabirds, and pods of common and bottlenose dolphins. Head further west to check out the towering cliffs of Kings Beach and Waitpinga before returning to Granite Island. From June to October, southern right whales migrate through the region. If there have been recent sightings, your captain will steer the boat to locations where you can look for whales, such as Horseshoe Bay and Bashams Beach. Your tour ends with return to your starting point after 1.5 hours.

Woops all round!!
Nov 2021
What a great day to have taken the Southern Ocean Adventure Tour – the skipper gave us a great time accentuating the thrills that the ocean was trying to throw at us! A real rollercoaster ride!
It was so much fun and despite the very bouncy ride and the woops, yelps and nervous laughs, every passenger got off that little boat thanking the team enthusiastically and wholeheartedly for the trip, even those who had been absolutely drenched at the front from the spray!!!
Can’t quite believe how quickly the 90 minutes went, and it would have been easy to have stayed out there much longer enjoying the visits by several pods of dolphins to the edge of the boat. Lovely!

So worth it, must do, can't miss out to get close to ocean wildlife

So worth the time and money to get memories to last forever. Time went so quickly, got close to seals, sea lions, birds, dolphins, wild and rugged clifs. Tour guide (Sophie) and Master (Lachlan) were very knowledgeable and gave an interesting commentary. When we saw a wild pod of dolphins we stoped near them for so everyone could get to see them. Being a small boat everyone is move around and get to see all the sights within being crowded. We recommend this tour and will go again during 🐋 whale watching season.

What a great day out! The 90 mins went so quickly. We got so close to dolphins and seals! The staff were very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. One of the best things is that because it is a smaller boat, everyone can see everything, no crowding to look at the sights. We had a great time and will be back next time we have visitors.

Great fun
My partner and I enjoyed the 90 minute boat tour. We saw sea lions, dolphins and lots of birds! Growing up in Adelaide and visiting Victor Harbour as a kid I had always wondered about the islands off the coast and this tour provided up close and personal view of the island itself and the animals that live there! Dolphins also swim very close to the boat which was amazing. I was worried about the weather because it was forecast rain/ wind but that didn’t damper the experience at all. Coats were provided and the sea spray added to the fun. Great value for money. I would love to go again on a beautiful sunny day during whale watching season.

Great way to experience Victor Harbour!
Jul 2020
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour with Big Duck - we saw dolphins within 4 minutes of departure. We were also lucky enough to see 2x Southern Right Whales and found the insightful commentary on their behaviour in the area informative. Finished the tour with a swing past Seal Rock and rode some big waves back to Granite Island. Staff were friendly and made the trip all the more enjoyable, definitely get out and do this during whale season. And take your binoculars!

Perfect weather for this 1.5 hour tour from Granite Island. Had a great time exploring Encounter Marine Park seeing seals and dolphins and birds. Also able to cruise to Tunk Head and see Kangaroo Island in the distance. Great crew too who were helpful and informative.

Good scenery, lots of wildlife
Feb 2020
It was a windy day and there was plenty of bouncing and splashing as we travelled. And along the way we were accompanied by dolphins, watched playful seals, and saw plenty of birds. We also enjoyed seeing the coastline around Victor Harbor from a different angle. The crew were helpful and informative. We had a great trip. It says not suitable for children under 2 but I would think about whether it would suit up to six if the weather is at all rough.

Thanks for your review! The perspective from the ocean is quite amazing looking back at the rugged coastline of Encounter Bay. The age appropriateness of the tours are a bit dependent on the sea conditions on the day and best judged by parents - my young kids adore the adventurous ride on the Big Duck.
