An amazing winter day in the New Forest National Park!
We went on a full day guided wildlife watching tour with Marcus and Emily and it was such a wonderful experience. The New Forest is actually not far from us but we had never been there before and we wanted to enjoy this National Park with someone who knew the landscape and the wildlife intimately. Marcus has encyclopaedic knowledge about the history and nature of the New Forest and Emily helped us see fantastic Lichens and mushrooms that we would have easily overlooked otherwise. Without their knowledge and guidance we would have never seen or heard several of the fast moving and hard to find woodland birds. Our highlight in the morning was a rare but awesome sighting of the Lesser Spotted woodpecker! We walked around different habitats in the New Forest and also visited the coast to see some very special Spoonbills, Avocets, Spotted Redhshanks and many other wading birds. All in all a highly enjoyable day and highly recommended!

      Wonderful birding experience
My husband and I went on a three hour birding walk with Emily-Louise and Marcus around Lymington marshes. We enjoyed it immensely and had the chance to take some terrific photographs, including my first spotted redshank. (A redshank agreeably appeared with a greenshank and a spotted redshank for comparison, which must have taken quite some organisation!) Marcus is incredibly knowledgeable about the marshes, and conveys that knowledge in a very accessible and enthusiastic way. Huge thanks also to Emily Louise for organizing everything and emailing us a list of what we had seen afterwards (and for sharing her electric hand warmer during the walk - a total lifesaver!) We look forward much to our next walk with them, and we recommend Wild New Forest without any qualification. If you're thinking of booking a tour, stop thinking and just do it!

      A Captivating Experience
An excellent walk around Wilverley from local expert Marcus. He gave us a great tour including the history, flora and fauna of the New Forest that was insightful and well delivered. He even showed us some plants that are unique to the forest, a real treat! Completely recommend the tour for the modest price asked, and will suggest to friends and family.

      Fascinating insight into my ‘back-yard'
Just a personal note to say thanks for our ‘Wild New Forest Lymington Discovery Walk’ experience. It gave us a fascinating insight into my ‘back-yard’ – my sea-wall run will never be the same again. Seriously, you did much to provide missing pieces of my jigsaw puzzle with your knowledge of the wet-marshes and their bird visitors, the history of the area. The ‘bird-talk’ exposed my lack of knowledge; all in all, a truly happy, couple of hours that was enjoyed by us both. Thank you for making it happen. We plan to be back for more.

A very enjoyable and inspirational introduction to birdlife in the New Forest
Wildfowl ID Masterclass. I felt privileged to spend half a day with Marcus, who was so passionate and knowledgeable about not only wildfowl, but all aspects of bird and mammal life in the New Forest. The day started with a fabulous cooked breakfast, then a short presentation, followed by a couple of hours walking around Lymington Marshes, spotting and identifying the birds that we had been talking about earlier. A thoroughly enjoyable day, in which I learned a lot and felt inspired to learn a whole lot more! Very highly recommended.

A great day from dawn to dusk
A great day bird watching starting at dawn in woodland at a roost for several nationally rare species, ending at the coast at dusk with over 90 species seen in between. Aside the guidance on when and where to find what the New Forest offers there's helpful tips on how to ID by sight and sound. Would thoroughly recommend.

      Amazing Fungi Walk
We went on this fungi walk because for some time we’ve wanted to know more about the amazing fungus we have in the forest. The two hours spent were incredibly interesting due to the depth of knowledge and enthusiasm of Marcus and his team. We would recommend this walk for the mildly inquisitive to the experienced fungi explorer- walk was not strenuous just a delightful way to spend a couple of hours expanding our knowledge in a stunning environment.

      A wonderful bespoke fungi/forest tour.
Am impromptu bespoke fungi and forest tour! We were, by chance, the only couple that signed up for the walk. So Marcus and Emily asked us if we had any particular interests. I’m a new fungi enthusiast so they said to get back in the car and drove we met them in the new forest. A wonderful two hours, not much walking but plenty of fungi spotting! Marcus’ encyclopaedic knowledge of the forest was amazing. And Emily’s ability to spot the tiniest fungi was brilliant.

Lovely way to spend a morning
We were camping just outside the forest and wanted to get to know some of the flora and fauna. Marcus and Emily-Louise were really understanding when we got stuck in traffic, welcoming us warmly and calmly catching us up with what we'd missed. Emily-Louise even waited for us in the car park so that we didn't get lost. We loved the walk, learned lots and felt much more connected to the forest as a result. Thank you.

A superb New Forest Exploratory Walk
As always, the fungi explorer walk to learn about the various species and ID features, led by Marcus and Emily was excellent value for money and very, very enjoyable. I've done a few now and each one is different, learning something new every time. Highly recommended.

Brilliant time on our fungi walk
Had an amazing time, the walk was very relaxed and everyone very engaged. Marcus was great at explaining and finding fungi some of which were very small and delicate through to those that are less attractive! Jamie was also very supportive finding fungi and taking photos. Really good communication when booking the event from Emily and all very friendly on the walk. Thoroughly recommend this event to anyone interested in fungi and the forest.

The weather forecast had been predicted as bad (by BBC weather) for several days prior to the trip taking place and it's a shame the organisers didn't take heed of that! Several times over the course of the 48 hours prior, I questioned whether the trip was going to proceed because of this, and was told by email 8 hours before the trip (and I quote) 'I have discussed with the skipper and we have decided to go ahead with the trip tomorrow, the forecast continues to be mixed, depending where you look. Fingers crossed!' Now, in my opinion 'crossing your fingers' as he quoted, certainly didn't bode well and if he was relying on that to make the trip a success then surely it would have been more appropriate to cancel and reschedule! On the morning of the trip on the way there, with the rain pouring down our car window screen, I phoned again just to confirm it was (unbelievably) still going ahead and was told 'it's only misty drizzle' - which is rain but he seemed not to want to use that word!
There was a breakdown in communications in the form of an email, that he claimed he had sent, that gave information of the location to pick the boat up from. I'm not sure where it was sent to but it never arrived, and consequently my wife spent 30 minutes desperately walking around and around Buckler's Hard in the drizzle looking for the right boat - even the information centre knew nothing about where the right place was. Eventually she found the organiser and there was no apology forthcoming just an insistence that he had sent the email with a doubtful look on his face! My wife had no reason to say she hadn't received it and all the communications were being delivered to the same email file so if it was sent then where did it go? This resulted in the other people on the trip being delayed so my wife was not flavour of the day as she boarded. The weather was, unsurprisingly, not good for the duration of the trip with mist and reduced visibility being the main problems. It's not something I, nor my wife, would go on a again because of the seemingly lack of organisation and unprofessionalism that abounds in this company. Note also, that there is a lack of seats on the boat (room for just 3 people to sit down) so if you have trouble standing for 2.5 hours then this may well not be the trip for you. £35 is a lot of money to pay for this type of experience!

I am very sorry, when asked at the end your wife said she had enjoyed the trip, it is a shame she didn't mention any of her miss-giving's to me when she had the opportunity to discuss face to face. I would like to make a couple of points: The weather was, as forecast we had no rain on the trip, the wind was calm and yes it was rather cloudy and grey but a fairly typical mid-February day - there was no reason to cancel the trip as it was safe, dry and in fact rather lovely out on the water. I have in fact received some rather complimentary feedback from other guests on the same trip (see below). Many thanks Marcus – and especially for yesterday. The weather wasn’t particularly kind but I wouldn’t have missed the trip for the world and enjoyed every minute. I really hope I can share another with my wife – but when its warmer! Thanks again There is seating for eight people on the boat, three in the cabin and five on deck- enough space for each guest to take a seat if needed. I did apologise to your wife when she arrived, I am very sorry you didn't receive the email, in an earlier communication your wife stated that she had all the information she needed so I had no reason to think otherwise. All other guests received the communication so I can only apologise again, I am always at the end of the phone (your wife called me a few times ahead of the trip). We are a not-for-profit CIC, generally we are told that we charge too little but as a not for profit company any additional funds raised go back to supporting conservation in the New Forest - we are one of the lowest cost boat trips available in the area. Other guests and myself frequently engaged in conversation with your wife and she spoke to most of us. She did spent most of the time at the back of the boat using her vape (which is not permitted). Again I am very sorry your wife felt the need to ask you to complain on her behalf, please pass on my apologies and always happy to discuss over the phone. In all it was a rather productive trip with views of Spoonbill, Goshawk, Marsh Harrier and many species of wildfowl and waders, sadly the grey conditions weren't ideal for photography but wonderful to experience the wildlife thriving on the river.

What a brilliant trip on the Lazy Daze boat…wildlife expert Marcus provides a fascinating and in depth running commentary of the species of birds and seals seen on the route up and down the beautiful Beaulieu River and into the Solent. An unforgettable experience and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Just go!

I have done this boat trip several times now and every time I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. Highlights have included seal, white-tailed eagle, peregrine falcon, goshawk, osprey, spoonbill, common, sandwich, and arctic terns, and a wide variety of waders. Conditions permitting you might get a little way onto the Solent, sometimes the boat goes a little further up the Beaulieu river. Aside from the wildlife, its pleasant to just be out on the water, soaking it all in. The guide Marcus and skipper Jeff both work hard to ensure everyone sees as much as possible, and everyone has a nice time. I find them both friendly and professional.

A good variety of birds seen! Makes for some interesting perspectives if you’re a photographer as you’re shooting into the shore 👍🏻 nice to see ground nesting birds close without disturbing them and had some interesting fly by’s. Thoroughly enjoyable! Marcus and Steve are gentleman, and extremely knowledgable. No egos, just an all round fun trip.

This is a wonderful trip in a beautiful area of Hampshire, rich in both history and natural history. The weather was a little unkind on my trip but nevertheless probably fairly typical for February in the UK. The pre trip communication was good and I had no trouble finding the embarkation point. Everyone involved from the boat captain to the reception staff in the marina couldn't have been more helpful. Marcus, as leader of the tour was spot on - always on the lookout for wildlife and a walking encyclopaedia of information about both the birdlife and the surrounding area. This was the highlight for me - not just the chance of seeing something different - but having id's etc explained by an obvious expert. I can confidently recommend this tour - I hope to go again as I would love to share the experience with my wife - but she is definitely a ‘warm weather girl’ so for her sake, I’ll wait until a little later in the year!
