We went on a 3 day equestrian holiday, as three very different riders they catered for us wonderfully. An advanced 38 year old, a novice 9 year old with 3 years experience and me a 42 year old complete beginner. We enjoyed lessons, hacks, forest rides, stable management and lots of fun. - joannehM2870ZE0 contributionsFrustratingI’ve tried to book here several times, and been told I would receive a phone call back to book a ride. Every time I am told the same thing yet every time no one had rang me back. It’s very frustrating. They seem to not need the business or care so I wouldn’t bother sadly.Written 29 October 2023

Gail who took me for the experience was truly special, she was patient and caring and wonderful. The staff who I saw looked all happy and was very friendly. The knowledge everyone knows is second to none and nothing was to much trouble. - joannasN7800JI0 contributionsCarriage DrivingBeing a horse rider for a long time, carriage driving was a whole new experience for me. The best thing about this was it was very hands on so if you love horses you get up close learning how to harness up your horse the correct way and putting to the carriage. Gail was very knowledgeable and friendly, she made me feel very comfortable and gave me loads of information on why things are done a certain way and the history behind the harness and carriages. We then set off on scenic drive through Cresswell Crags where I was handed the reins and taught how hold them properly and drive Rio the gorgeous coloured cob. It was very exciting. I took my mum and dad with me for the ride and we all had a very enjoyable afternoon. Highly recommendedWritten 21 September 2023

I have included my review of this experience below which was left in August but just wanted to update it.
It has now been 3 months since this riding experience took place however please be aware that if booked via Red Letter Days you don't get everything included as per advertised. Firstly it is not a buffet lunch, it is one sandwich and a drink. Secondly you do not get the framed photo. After numerous communication via phone and email with the stables I was promised the photo had been sent several times, however it was never received to this day. The riding experience itself was good however the promised extras leave a lot to be desired!
REVIEW LEFT IN AUGUST 2023
Booked a half day horse riding experience for our Niece for her 18th birthday via the Red Letter Day Experience. She has never ridden before and was slightly nervous.
She was allocated a horse called Faith who was very placid and good natured. First she had a half hour lesson in a field. The lady who took the lesson was very kind and within 15 minutes she felt confident enough to trot. Am sorry but didn’t get her name.
She then had a break and had a bacon sandwich which was included in the price. My husband and I were able to purchase a sandwich and a drink at the same time and were able to sit outside and watch a riding lesson.
She then went on an hours trek led by Anna who again was very friendly and kind. She took is down a country track which eventually led into Cresswell Crags. She was very chatty and she even stopped by the fields and pointed out other horses at the stables. We were able to walk along side for the whole trek and enjoy the lovely scenery. At the end she had some photos taken as part of the package which will be posted out to us.
The whole experience lasted around 2.5 hours and went very smoothly. Our niece thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and felt safe the whole time. Every member of staff was very friendly and helpful from our arrival to our departure. The stables cater for riding of all abilities and age groups.

Was welcomed warmly, we were a group of 3 children and 2 adults of mixed riding abilities. This unfortunately was the only positive. Had pre booked through Forest Holidays and asked to state age, height and weight 3 times as well as being asked to stand on the scale pre-riding. All a bit excessive. Upon allocation of horses, the staff were rude at times stating 'she can't even hold the rein properly' and 'don't kick, would you kick a dog like that'. We understand the care and well being of the horses are a priority but the manner in which messages were conveyed were unprofessional and rude at times. The 1 hour hack was mainly on the road, through a car park and at a very very slow walk with some young staff members who acted like they would rather be anywhere in the world than on a hack with us. Upon return, my daughter asked if she could feed the horses an apple and one of the staff said yes however another member of staff then shouted at my daughter accusing her of not being considerate to the horses as they may have allergies. My daughter was really upset at being spoken to in this way. She rides every week and loves and respects horses. We were really disappointed in this hack and our treatment by the staff.

Kennedy was a wonderful young lady, who was so kind to kajus and helpful. she chatted the whole way with me and my son, and made his day. so if anyone takes there little one for pony trekking definitely ask Kennedy she is a credit to the company.
She made my sons day, and gave me lots of information for my daughter who had started lessons.

We booked this through Forest Holidays for my three year old. I was wary that he might refuse to go on and was right. He wouldn't even put the helmet on but the staff were wonderful, they had seen it all before. They encouraged him every step of the way and took our attitude that you just need to ignore his concerns and he will get used to it.
The young girl who led Jack, the small pony, was very lovely and clearly passionate about her job. She was great with CJ and it was a lovely experience. CJ was so proud of himself and carries the picture of himself and Jack-Jack around to show everyone.

We took 2 children - a 3 year old and a 6 year old who had never ridden before on a 45 minute trek. I’m over 60 and haven’t been on a horse for many many years. The lady who checked us in and fitted our hats was friendly and good with the children. Our two horses and the two ponies had lovely temperaments. The girls leading the trek were absolutely wonderful, chatty and great with the children. They were singing songs and both children had so much fun and loved the trek. We went through the beautiful Creswell Craggs and around local countryside. We had such a lovely time making memories. It was a brilliant trek and very therapeutic.

After searching for the perfect place to be able to cater for both my children and myself Coloured Cob came up and had everything we needed, which were a variety of size horses, staff with understanding and patience the ability to have lessions or treak.
Not only have we found the perfect place for us to ride we have found a new friends.
Coloured Cob has changed our lives in a way we can't describe.
I've rekindled my love for horses and remember the peace they bring helping with my mental health struggles.
My daughter has gained confidence and enjoying doing something that all her effort shows.
My son has found a new passion and the staff and horses have brought out a side of him that was very rarely seen by anyone. School have praised and friends and family have noticed a difference and a carm side. My son even said "I've been a lot better since going to the horses" the first thing he does is run to find Gail and tell her how good he has been.
The lessons are great very informative and you leave feeling accomplished and learn something new every time. The treaks around Cresswell Crags and surrounding area are so peaceful for us as my daughter and son build up to the faster paced rides.
We as a family highly recommend Coloured Cob

Absolutely brilliant! My 4 year old daughter loved every minute. Rihanna was a great guide/host and she really did her best to make sure the time we spent riding was enjoyable. All the staff were friendly right from the time of the booking, the equipment was usable and well kept and the other facilities were good. We will definitely be visiting again. Great value for money too!

We drove up from Hampshire to take 4 days of beginner/reminder lessons, 1 hour per day plus a trek on the last day. It was worth the drive as the Coloured Cob Centre did not disappoint. The lessons were conducted in the school; the trek through Cresswell Crags, which was gorgeous. Most impressive was the high level of care for the horses, it runs through the fabric of the place, and as a result the horses were settled, calm and responsive. The many young people taking care of the horses and riders were directed from a control centre liaising with a professional trainer on the ground. As a result our experience was seamless, safe and enjoyable. By day 4 both beginners were riding well and as the rememberer, well, I got my confidence back (at 52!) and thoroughly enjoyed it. What a great set up.

My daughter did a trek around creswell craggs for her birthday the walk was lovely and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier. She has since moved here for her weekly lessons and again the staff were friendly and reassuring from the start checking in with her throughout the lesson to make sure she was ok. Communication was great and we loved that you can stand right near the lesson to observe. I have never been brave enough to ride myself but after being there for only one hour watching my daughter I would feel confident giving it ago.
