Sionhan's wealth of knowledge and understanding of Hampton Court Palace was inspirational!
We were lucky enough to be staying at The Georgian House for the weekend in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace. Siobhan collected us from there and provided us with an amazing tour of the inside of the palace as we had explored the grounds the previous day. She spun the narrative of the history of the palace in such a way that our attention never wavered for a minute, welcoming questions and discussion whenever we required it. Being faced with the whole palace to explore can be overwhelming but Siobhan made sure we were given the precise nuggets of information we needed for an overview inspiring us to want to know more about this period of history. Maybe one day we can return for another one of Siobhan's guided tours!

My "Bucket List" tour with Siobhan.
What a memorable experience! I've been to Hampton Court several times but never really appreciated it. Siobhan is supremely knowledgeable about the Tudors (which is my interest) and suitably tailored the tour. She is an exemplary guide: a professional, interesting, charming, expert!

We had an amazing time on our tour! Siobhan was so knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. She never went to fast and took time to answer all of our questions. She was very accommodating with all my small requests. The value for the tour is excellent! Highly recommend!!

Tower of London, Hampton Court, The National Portrait Gallery - A Tour That is Perfect for YOU
Siobhan set up amazing experience for myself, my daughter and my granddaughter in two separate years: one at Hampton Court and the other at the Tower of London. She makes learning fun. I have been to the National Portrait Gallery many times and had no idea I didn't know what I was looking at. Siobhan's stories about both the paintings and the people in them not only made for an interesting tour but when I went to the Queen's Gallery and the V&A on my own I had a much more enjoyable time because I took the knowledge Siobhan had given me. Siobhan is able to tailor a tour to what you are interested in rather than just give you an ordinary itinerary. I highly recommend her as a tour guide.

A Magical Visit to Kensington Palace!
Siobhan Clarke brought a lovely pile of bricks to life! This was my 3rd outing with her and as enjoyable as ever! There were 4 people in our group and so our visit to Kensington Palce was definitely an intimate experience. Siobhan has the special ability to make each person feel as if she is speaking just to he or she! And her hint of a delightful Scottish baroque makes me want to to hang on her every word! Which is a very good thing because she really knows her history and has the special gift to bring this history to life! As we explored the Palace learning about the notable residents who lived here, through her insight we came to realize and appreciate that these people were real living, breathing persons! She has that special gift of being able to bring these people to life---no mean feat! And, one which keeps me coming back for more! Needless to say, I am already anticipating with delight my outing with Siobhan. As should you! You will not be disappointed!

      Fantastic tour
We had a staff day out to Hampton court today. Sophie was our guide and she was brilliant. In 30 degree heat she kept the tour interesting for 1.5 hours! There were 45 of us who all had complete different interests and everyone said how much they enjoyed it. Can certainly recommend! Thank you Sophie!

Terrific Private Tour for a Small Group
I had been to Hampton Court in 2011 with my daughter on our own, but History Guide Siobhan Clarke gave a group of 5 of us the perfect private tour. She was so knowledgeable and we learned so much more. We were able to go at a relaxed pace and because of her many years of experience with these tours, she provided us with "extra treats" of information and history, even helping us plan a spontaneous boat trip back to London on the Thames instead of the planned train back to London. Siobhan is simply the best guide and I will always treasure the time we spent with her! Susan Feuille, Champaign, IL

      History Guides are the best
Have visited three sites with this group and highly recommend them. Just completed a trip to Hampton Court with Siobhan. She was very kind and personalized the visit to our interests. Very much an expert. Also visited Westminster Abbey with Jackie about 2 years ago and loved her. I learned things one doesn’t get from the audio guides. I saw Windsor Castle with another of their guides and though I cannot remember her name, she was also an excellent guide. Having a member of History Guides makes visiting the sights so much more memorable. They are my first choice when visiting London

      Magical History Tour
My family and I are members of HRP and we have attended two lectures, one was an introduction to the Banqueting House and the other related to the execution of Charles 1st. Siobhan Clarke gave both of these lectures and enthralled us with her narration, skillfully bringing the characters to life and transforming our modern day surroundings into a dank prison cell, a colourful royal banquet or a sombre place of execution. Siobhan also handed round illustrations and written records on the events, to further enhance the experience. Our next adventure into the past with Siobhan is on 2nd May at Kensington Palace where she will talk about the history and traditions associated with the birth of a royal baby. I know it will be as informative and as interesting as the previous two we have attended. Our interest in history has been re-ignited due to these fascinating talks and we now regularly check the HRP website for new history lectures to attend. I thoroughly recommend them.

      History brought alive - amazing
My family and l joined Historical Royal Palaces. The absolute highlight of our membership has been the Lectures we have attended given by Siobhan Clarke. We have been to two lectures one an introduction to the Banqueting House and the other on the Execution of Charles 1st which took place at the Banqueting House. Siobhan took us back in time so cleverly we felt as if we were standing invisibly in a corner watching the events as they took place. We were eager to ask questions; some of which were quite grizzly. Siobhan answered them with such good humour always mindful of the sensitivity of other members of the group. The introduction to the Banqueting House and the lecture on Charles 1st has prompted an interest in art and history that has led us to explore art associated with Charles 1st, the history around his son who was invited back to the throne and Oliver Cromwell. We are so looking forward to meeting Siobhan again on the 2nd May at Kensington Palace for a lecture entitled Royal Babies. We asked if the Lectures could be over one day with lunch. If they do occur we shall be at the front of the queue for tickets. Amazing - loved every minute - our only minus is that the lectures are just not long enough hence the above request.

      The epitome of excellence
I run and lead high-end historical tours, and I also enjoy going on guided tours, so I've had a lot of experience of them; and I have had the tremendous good fortune to have enjoyed guided tours led by the fabulous History Guides, whose knowledge, professionalism and enthusiasm more than equal their friendliness and helpfulness. If you want an authentic historical experience, and to discover places and stories you never dreamed of, you could no nothing better than to book one of their tours. I cannot recommend them highly enough! Five stars plus!

See Historical Sights with True Historians and Enthusiasts
I have used The History Guides for 3 visits to historical sites in the London area: The Tower of London, The National Portrait Gallery and Hampton Court Palace, but I will concentrate on the NPG for this review. The first time I visited The National Portrait Gallery in London, the Tudor Gallery was closed so it was on my highest priority list to make another visit to the NPG upon my next visit. When I found out that Siobhan would be offering a guided tour, I jumped at the chance. Siobhan walked us through the exhibit, sharing stories of the characters as well as pointing out many of the symbols and imagery of the paintings. We were able to see, in chronological order, the development of portraiture in Tudor England, as well as the development of fashion and the importance of image, especially in the Elizabethan paintings. I highly recommend anyone to visit the NPG with Siobhan, and to take time after the Tudor tour to visit the other galleries, as well, you will see so many images that you've maybe only seen before in books. Siobhan is a wonderful guide, open to questions, patient with visitors and immensely knowledgeable on British history. Having her as a guide to any sites you may wish to visit means that you will get so much more out of your visit than you would alone. I couldn't recommend The History Guides more to anyone who wants a thorough immersion in the historical sites of London and the surrounding area.

A great way to understand and experience hisotry!
I have seen Hampton Court at least four times. Twice by myself and twice I had the good fortune to spend some time listening to Siobhan Clark. I experienced an extremely knowledgeable and accessible guide. She made the buildings and gardens come alive and was so welcoming to all. The experience as so much more complete because of t the knowledge and insight she offered.

Hampton Court - History Comes to Life
A highlight of my visit to Hampton Court was a guided tour by one of the History Guides, Siobhan Clarke. Ms. Clarke was a most knowledgable historian, who regaled us with stories about the Tudor, Stuart, and Georgian eras. She brought history to life, and graciously answered all of our many questions about this fabled palace and the Kings and Queens who lived there. Whenever I travel, I make a point of seeking out knowledgable guides to enhance the experience. If English history is your "thing", I highly recommend the personalized tours offered by Ms. Clarke and her colleagues of the History Tours, whom I have used on several occasions. They are worth every penny!

      Henry VIII's Favorite Palace!
I was fortunate enough to take a tour of Hampton Court with "The History Guides" in the fall of 2017. Siobhan Clark was our guide and she was excellent! If you go to Hampton Court, I highly recommend that you have The History Guides give you a tour. This was Henry VIII's favorite palace and there are so many hidden gems that you would not see or even realize without a guide. Siobhan is very knowledgeable and has a sincere passion for Hampton Court. With her as our guide, I felt that I was there in Henry VIII's Court! The gardens are beautiful and standing by the River Thames, one can imagine The King approaching the Palace. I will definitely go back again and when I do, I will have Siobhan and The History Guides accompany me again.

    Ms. Clarke,

I wanted to say thank you for the wonderful tour you gave my family and me last week. You may remember us with the three kids.

You did a great job of getting the children involved and trying to relate history to them. I especially appreciated your knowledge about the aspects of daily life which helped bring alive what it was like to live then. While most everyone has heard of the despot, Henry VIII, and has some knowledge of what he did with his wives, it was the smaller details that I found most interesting.

Your tour was one of the highlights of our visit to your country and I do appreciate your contribution.

    Best regards,

Excellent couple of hours with Siobhan.
She was incredibly patient and informative, walking two cultural novices through the history of the palace, the paintings, the architecture and all the interesting little secrets you wouldn't normally pick up on a group tour. The two hours flew by and we were disappointed (and exhausted by all the new knowledge we had acquired) when it came to an end.
I'd recommend having a quick peruse round the palace first if you haven't been before, followed by the tour to get your bearings first.
We enjoyed it so much we've joined HCP as annual members and can't wait to visit again. Highly recommended. Thank you.

Siobhan is an amazing private guide.
Our experience at the palace was ten fold better due to her amazing historical knowledge of all 3 eras.
So many myths dispelled and insights into the transitions of power. Little details and secrets helped to paint an even more real portrait of life at the palace.

We wanted to go to Hampton Court to learn more about Henry VIII in anticipation of our viewing of Six. We booked this tour and were very happy. It is small group (I believe 6 or 7 max) but our family of 5 ended up being the only people on the tour. We traveled there via Uber (which ended up being unnecessary) but was a ale to see more of the city and surrounding this way. It took over one hour to travel. We had a very easy time finding our guide Siobhan who was incredibly nice and knowledgeable. She writes books on the topics!!! She tailored the tour to our interests and my teens were very entertained! This was my 19 year old sons favorite activity in London (shocker). We walked to town and had lunch and then returned to London via the train (5 minute walk) arriving at Waterloo station (30 minute ride - way better than Uber).

A fun filled dive into Tudor history ! Siobhan Clarke dressed as the Countess of Lennox in period garb brought all that was Tudor alive ! From the magnificent tapestries that adorned the walls to the art work to how the rooms functioned to meet the whims of the King, we learned much of how the Palace operated. And then we were taken outside to the courtyard and gardens for more history. It was fascinating ! I recommend the private tour to anyone with even a passing interest in Tudor life !

We LOVED our visit to HCP and wish we had been able to get there a bit earlier in the day. They have kept the palace preserved so nicely and even though we may have benefited from a private tour guide, we felt the audio tour was quite informative! The grounds, the building and the preservation was wonderful! Highly recommend!

We had the best guide, Siobhan Clark. Her in depth knowledge and historical research made it a truly memorable visit!

I’ve never learned so much and enjoyed a tour as much as I did with Siobhan @Hampton Court.

The history of Henry VIII and Hampton Court, the building, the art, antiquities, furnishings, stories are epic.

    Highly recommend!

Our tour with Siobahan was an absolute treat! Seeing our guide dressed in Tudor clothing helped transport you back to the times of the Tudor royals. Siobahan’s friendly and relaxed manner helped us really take in the surroundings and truely appreciate where we were. We were even shown a few little treasures that the general public wouldn’t normally see! My husband was very impressed with how we could throw any question at her and she knew the answer, that’s the benefit of booking a tour with a Tudor historian!
This is the only way to see Hampton court!
    Thank you Siobahan,

If you have an interest in English history as I do, then THE HISTORY GUIDES are a must for your trip to London ! Over the past two years I have visited London three times; each time Siobhan Clarke of THE HISTORY GUIDES has provided well rounded and informative tours that correspond to whatever your level of interest is - whether it be the basics or more in depth.
I must say my tour of Hampton Court with Siobhan was fantastic. So many players and history in that one place, yet Siobhan seamlessly wove it all together in a couple of hours.
I also did two different walking tours with Siobhan. Southwalk Walking Tour was a lovely leisurely 2 1/2 hour tour starting at the Globe Theatre and then proceeding to places where great history unfolded but are now just ruins; without a knowledgeable tour guide the interesting history of Southwalk would be unseen to a casual tourist.
My second walking tour with Siobhan was through the streets of London where she pointed out places of great intrigue during the Tudor reigns with its often gory history.
And Windsor Castle steeped in so much history - both past and present - has Jackie, also one of THE HISTORY GUIDES. Jackie has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the vast collections of paintings, clocks, and tapestries that adorn the Castle.
If you want to get the most out of your visit, THE HISTORY GUIDES are a must !
