Definitely worth the time
Apr 2021 • Friends
Our bus driver, Lee, was friendly and knowledgeable, and an excellent driver. Carter House and Carnton were amazing. The tour guides were entertaining and smart. I wish we had more time at these two locations. Lotz House was a bit of a disappointment with very few original items and not much connection to the Civil War. Overall, my adult daughter and I learned a lot.

Excellent tour! Especially the Carter house! A description of the battle of Franklin was phenomenal. The original pieces at the Canton House were also spectacular. Loved the Lotz house as well.

Relive the Battle of Franklin with this Tour
Sep 2020
This is one of the best tours in Franklin. If you are looking to see what life was like in Tennessee back in the 1800's, then don't miss this tour. Our tour guide was fantastic. He was both friendly and knowledgeable. He encouraged the guests to ask as many questions of they wanted and he answered each one. He didn't just talk about the house, but also included the events surrounding the Battle of Franklin during the Civil War. If you are either a Civil War buff or like touring old homes, this tour is for you.

Civil War Tour from Nashville
Jan 2020 • Family
My daughter and I took this tour and we loved it. The guides were all very knowledgeable and the story of each house and the families that lived there were very interesting and inspiring. There is so much history we learned a lot in a short time. Only draw back there was to much time allotted for the first two houses and it was raining so we had a half hour of down time in each place otherwise trip moved along and the driver kept us interested with additional fun facts even pointing out homes of some of Nashville’s stars on drive back. I Would recommend this tour especially for the history buff!!

Less about the Civil War battle, more about the families
Nov 2019
This tour was more about the homes and families caught in the battle than it was about the battle itself. The Carnton Plantation house is beautiful and was interesting to learn how it served as a hospital during the battle.

What we saw of the Carter house was beautiful as well, however our tour guide wouldn't let us go upstairs because "the ceilings are too low for the men to stand up straight". It would have been nice to have been offered the option for those who wanted to see it. He also blazed through the story of how the battle went down, pointing out "landmarks" as he spoke. However, with all the structures in the way, it was hard to understand exactly what he was talking about. I know about as much about the Battle of Franklin now as I did before the tour (which is almost nothing).

The Lotz house didn't really have anything to do with the battle at all. Although it was a beautiful house, and the family is very interesting, but the Lotz house could have been left off the tour as nothing pertinent to the battle happened there.

We also didn't get to explore Franklin at all. It was Veteran's Day and there were festivities happening downtown. A huge bummer since it is such a cute town and we really wanted to explore. Our driver said they have festivities all the time, so be aware you might not get to explore Franklin at all depending on the day.

Overall, if you are a Civil War buff, the Carnton Plantation and the Carter House would be worth it. It you like 19th century architecture and learning about interesting people in history, you'll love the Lotz house.

Be aware the tour is longer than the battle. Plan to spend all day on the tour and standing A LOT!

Nov 2019 • Business
I really enjoyed this tour and the tour guide. The guides at the homes were also very interesting. You definitely get your money’s worth on this tour! Great Civil War history that brought the families involved to life.
The only downside was that i was gone from my hotel for almost 9 hours when the tour is listed as 7 hours. I had an event I needed to get ready for and I had little time to get ready.

Interesting step back in time
Oct 2019
Our driver Terry, and all the guides at the sites, were very knowledgeable and engaging. Probably could have done just the first 2 houses and had a little more time jn Franklin but we still had a very enjoyable day. The coach was very comfortable and our driver was very clear with details of the timetable, meeting points etc

Great way to spend a day
Oct 2019
All of those involved are experts and passionate about the Battle of Franklin. This is a real reminder that battles were frequently fought in the front and back yards, with families caught in the middle. The family stories are moving and inspiring; the retelling of the battle is both riveting and horrific.
