- sharonmO658ZD0 contributionsDefinitely worth the visit! This property is absolutely amazing! It was a refreshing contrast to the lights and activity on Broadway - it provides a great perspective on the way Tennessee used to be. We did the Bourbon Experience, which was fantastic, but also toured the grounds. It is a must-see!!Written 2 January 2025
- rcamaro20100 contributionsA Memorable Experience! We selected this historic distillery and winery because we thought it might be interesting …….. we were NOT disappointed! The grounds and historic structures are truly incredible. The history of this former plantation is fascinating. It’s all beautiful. We did the Bourbon experience. It was really a treat. Our tour guide was Maddie. She was fun and full of information. The bourbon cocktails were really really exceptional. The bourbon was so good. We could have sat in the Icehouse for hours. It was memorable!!!!Written 24 December 2024
- Mari90 contributionsSomething Different To Do in NashvilleUpon a recommendation, I booked the Wine, Bourbon & Food Pairing tasting at this historic plantation. So glad we took that advice. We checked in at the visitors center and then proceeded to a location outside to meet someone who took us to the 2nd floor of another building to a beautiful room with a table set for our group. Our sommelier & bourbon expert Laura was fantastic. She really guided us through how to taste, what food pairing went with the wine and why it was paired with a particular wine. The food was fantastic as well. The chef at Belle Meade made delicious little bites We finished with the tasting with a bourbon cocktail. Laura was so informative about the plantation, the wines and the bourbon. She impressed me with her knowledge in all areas. We had a great time at this tasting. It was nice to do something different than bar hopping on Broadway. I recommend this food pairing tasting.Written 18 October 2024
- 869lilyo0 contributionsPlantation good - tour guide disappointingSadly, this tour was a disappointment. The guide was more focused on his personal views rather than providing the history of the Plantation and the era. Thankfully, the tour price included admission to the grounds, which was much better than the tour itself.Written 13 October 2024
- F417KXkimberlyw0 contributionsMansion tour great, Food/wine pairing disappointingThe mansion tour was great and I learned a lot. Our guide was very knowledgeable. I also purchased the food and wine pairing afterward. The food pairing was great although very small bite sized pieces so don't expect an actual meal. The sommelier was also very knowledgeable but treated me differently from everyone else. He invited everyone to introduce themselves and then started talking when it got to my turn. I had to repeat every comment or question I had at least twice throughout the whole experience because he would start talking whenever I opened my mouth. EVERY. SINGLE TIME. He then *forgot* to serve me one of the wines. I was really confused by this and it made for an extremely awkward and unpleasant experience. If you are from the area, this seems like a great activity to do with a group of friends. If you are like me and traveling solo from 4000+ miles away, save yourself the time and money and do the complimentary wine tasting after the mansion tour, head out to the patio, and buy yourself a glass of your favorite wine.Written 29 September 2024
- Colmenares30 contributionsWe recommend the Journey to Jubilee tourWe'd heard they added a tour covering the experience of enslavement and that was of interest to us, probably wouldn't have visited Belle Meade otherwise. I guess the tour started in 2019. We thought it was well done. Our interpreter was personable, dealt with the topic with sensitivity and historical accuracy. When he expressed his opinion he was super clear it was his opinion. We also experienced the slavery tour at the Hermitage, and it was not as good in our opinion (though it was cool that it was from a horse drawn wagon).Written 27 September 2024
- DollyInverness0 contributionsThe tour was okay but the food and wine pairing was amazing! We did a tour of the mansion house followed by wine, food and bourbon pairing. The tour was good if you like the history of these families but the wine and food pairing was really brilliant. The room was beautifully decorated and the sommelier was absolutely brilliant. Very knowledgeable and great fun. Would highly recommend.Written 10 September 2024
- SandraAl0 contributionsHorse lovers must seeWe toured the mansion and the grounds and enjoyed it. As a horse enthusiast was nice to learn that so many of the winning thoroughbreds were born and trained here, including Secretariat. Particularly noteworthy was the slave who really was the one responsible for the horses and is buried close to the mausoleum. As we were there in the a.m. we did not try the wine tasting but did have lunch there and enjoyed beautiful live music.Written 8 September 2024

- H8682XTcaitlinr0 contributionsBourbon, Wine, and History--well rounded experience! We participated in the Wine and Bourbon experience with food pairings, which was both enjoyable and very informative for folks at all levels of wine/bourbon preference. Our sommelier Macon was impressive in her knowledge of wine and bourbon, her ability to teach us, and the way she tied the information back to Belle Meade and the South. We continued our experience with the Journey to Jubilee tour led by Tom. For a difficult topic and conversation, the tour was informative, upbeat, and comfortable. More than other general tours of the grounds, this tour took a deep dive into the lives of the enslaved people at Belle Meade and their important contributions to the plantation. We ended at the winery, where we made several purchases! Also there were multiple shops on site--something for everyone!Written 17 August 2024
- F3928HRkristenj0 contributionsGo on the Journey to Jubilee tour!Tom was an exceptional tour guide. He is well spoken, friendly, and informative. We were blown away by his passion for Bellemeade and commitment to sharing its rich history. If you are looking for an eye-opening, thought-provoking, interactive experience, I highly recommend the Journey to Jubilee tour. Tom, thank you for sharing your passion with us and allowing us to ask questions, ponder thoughts and learn openly!Written 8 August 2024

- S1249HJkimberlyo0 contributionsGreat Guided Tour!!The Journey to Jubilee tour is an informative guided tour through the eyes of the slaves living in the plantation. It gives you the stories of the enslaved people. Our tour guide, Tom was excellent. He provided documented information and “undocumented” stories about the enslaved people. Walking through the grounds gave a visual of how they lived. During the tour Tom gave room for questions and discussion. Being a person of color I felt that some of the tour could show a bit more of what the enslaved people had to endure. We felt that the cabin they lived in was “too nice” and doesn’t show the true conditions. Tom provided great empathy during his guided tour. If you have never toured a plantation or experienced what slaves went through then this tour will give a “softer” understanding.Written 3 August 2024

Our tour guide was actually the museum's curator - the normal tour guide was out sick - and he did an amazing job. We learned so much about the history of this stud farm and the family.
We were here in February during a cold snap so the grounds weren't very fun to walk around. I'd definitely recommend a more pleasant day to visit but we were in a time crunch so we went with what we had.
There is a complimentary wine tasting at the end for adults and I don't drink wine usually. I have a mild allergy and don't really care for the taste. But they got me. I liked three of the four wines we tasted and ended up buying some bottles for gifts for friends (they are horse people).
Also, the curator didn't gloss over the fact that many slaves lived on the grounds or that the original owner stole the land from Native Americans. Their slave quarters has more information on slave lives, music, and religion to give a more balanced feel of the dichotomy between the two lifestyles.

We toured the mansion with our daughter, son in law and our one year old twin grand baby girls. Our tour guide, Jessie, was excellent in giving the history and answering everyone’s questions. This is a must do on your Nashville visit and for anyone living in the area that has not been. They operate without any state and federal funding so please donate a little more to your ticket price.

The home and grounds are gorgeous but the tour is of the "get their money, get 'em in, get 'em through, get 'em out!" variety (to the point that it seemed everything was rehearsed). The docents were very nice just seemed a bit rushed and they had their "mantra" down pat but if asked a question out of their "comfort zone" there was a blank stare then an "I don't know" and a "you do not want to get left behind". There was no offer nor interest in answering the question but more an attitude of being inconvenienced by getting nudged fr/ their scripted talking points. There is also much more of an emphasis on the family and their slaves/servants than on the architecture. The history of the family is fascinating and well worth the time spent but more on the house itself would have been nice.
Do not get me wrong as the house/grounds are beautiful and well worth the cost and time spent but it could have been so much more (to be fair this is probably exactly what the tour bus crowd wants).
As for the wine tasting....let us just say that the less mentioned about their wines the better.

The house and grounds are really beautiful. Our guide, Anastasia, was really knowledgeable and let everyone take their time walking through each room. We would have liked to have spent more time roaming the grounds but it was just too hot that day. The wine tasting was wonderful. I highly recommend the blackberry wine! We purchased out tickets online but several on the earlier time slots in the day were already booked up. We arrived early to check out the visitor's center and found out that they only sell a certain number online and the rest are to be bought in person. We wish we had known this as we would have come a lot earlier to beat the heat. The house itself is air conditioned though. Over all, I would highly recommend!

Short weekend stay in Franklin and we booked two historical guided tours, Belle Meade mansion and grounds tour, and the Carnton Battle of Franklin civil war tour. Both were spectacular. The tour guides for both were so incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter that it kept us riveted the entire time. Ask the guide at Belle Meade about how people went to the bathroom in that era, and get a detailed explanation about the history of womens undergarments! Make sure to walk around the grounds after the mansion tour, read the placards, and go into the slave house, smokehouse, stables, carriage house, etc. to experience how people lived in the 19th century. Thumbs up!

We really enjoyed the guided tour of the mansion. Kenly was our tour director, and she was FANTASTIC! She even kept my five year old's attention as she told the story of the families who once lived at Belle Meade. Kenly went above and beyond and even took time with us after the tour to share some artifacts that she's found on the grounds with our boys. It was an amazing experience-- one that our boys will never forget! Thank you, Kenly!

This tour was very cool- our tour guide was so knowledgeable and passionate about the history behind the plantation. He had great stories and really gave you the full history of the plantation. The house itself has the same furniture from when the family lived there, pretty crazy considering they had to track it all down to buy and/or lease every single piece. We did not have time to do the Journey to Jubilee tour which we were disappointed about as I believe there are more things you get to see. It would be cool if they had a tour option that includes a mansion tour as well as the Journey to Jubilee.
The only negative to this tour was that all the bedrooms were roped off and there was an extra hall that was closed off. I have been on plantation tours before where you get to go into all the rooms which I think is a super cool part if you’re into the full experience and history. Maybe someday they will change that!

Ask who your tour guide is before commuting to that time. We were placed with Lucy, nice young girl, but talked quietly in a high pitched voice and very quickly all in a mask... They had another tour going on at the same time and it was an older man who talked loud. He also sounded more interesting and gave more information. I had my Grandma with me and she could not hear anything she said and I barely could standing by her! You pay the same high price ($26) no matter which guide so I would request one of the males. Also, the tour is overpriced compared to all the other ones in the area. I would focus more on the civil war than the family story of horses. They don’t even mention one lick of CW history but a few plaques behind the slave cabin even though big things happened there and big people visited there. Lastly, very rude to have a piano tuner tuning your piano while we were struggling to hear what she was saying. He could have waited 4 minutes while we were in the same room but kept on pounding the keys!

My husband and I used our Nashville pass for this attraction. Online it had no availability but we called and they encouraged us to come anyway. The tour was really interesting and the perfect length of time. The wine tasting felt very rushed. We were not able to pick specific wines, just more of a line up and here are 3 wines. Their blackberry wine is delicious. Would recommend this attraction for adults. Can’t imagine kids getting much out of it.

I have toured several southern plantations in the south but Belle Meade was one of my favorites. First, it is in the city limits to the south in a beautiful estate neighborhood. Very easy to get to when visiting Nashville. The grounds are the highlight with lots of space and gardens to roam around. It was a horse farm for race horses in the 1800’s. We purchased the basic ticket which at the time seemed a little high at $24 but was so worth it. The ticket covered the home tour with a fabulous guide who was actually the curator of the plantation home. Very knowledgeable about the history of the house and information about life during that time period. The home is beautiful and authentic. It also covers a wine tasting at the on site winery. After the tasting, you can purchase a glass of wine and wander around the grounds and gardens or sit at a table in the arbor. It was a city unto its self so there is alot to see. Plan on at least 2 hours unless it is a beautiful day, then bring a picnic to have in the shade of the beautiful trees on the property. I highly recommend Belle Meade while visiting Nashville.

My boyfriend and I are planning to stop by Belle Meade during our stay at Nashville in a few days. Any suggestion on which tour option is the most recommended? Also, besides the tour and food, what else I can could on grounds? Thank you!
Written 2 August 2022
We went on the tour and wine package. It wouldn't be worth it if you don't like sweet wine. From what we saw of the food (didn't try it) it was buffet style.
The grounds were nice, but because of the heat it felt really good to be back in the A/C in the carriage house.
Enjoy Nashville, we did!

Can you use uber to get there and return to hotel?

We had a car so didn't use Uber. Belle Mead was outside of Nashville but I'm sure you could use Uber.

I have a friend who is visiting Nashville this summer but I don't know the dates... I wanted to fund this tour for them. Is there anyway I can purchase a gift card for this without knowing dates? If so, I would be giving the gift in a couple weeks so would she still have time to "book it" before it fills up?
