Overview
Save time waiting in line by pre-booking your tour for Belle Meade Plantation, the historic Nashville estate that dates to the mid-1800s. A guide in period costume shows you around the Greek-Revival mansion during the 45-minute guided tour, then leaves you free to explore the grounds on your own. Great for history buffs, with the added bonus of a complimentary tasting at the onsite winery.
What to Expect
Make your own way to Belle Meade Plantation with at least 15 minutes to spare before your tour is due to start.

Your costumed guide meets you at the designated time and leads you on a 45-minute tour of the Belle Meade mansion. Go through almost every room in the mansion, which is furnished with period furniture and art, and serves as a prime example of Victorian architecture in Tennessee.

Expect to hear informative commentary about the estate during the 1800s, when it developed into an important thoroughbred horse farm, and later became the site of Civil War battles and the temporary headquarters for a Confederate general.

After your guided tour, feel free to walk through the grounds to see the historic outbuildings, including a dairy, horse stable, and a replica of a log cabin for the enslaved people who worked on the plantation. The Harding family, who owned Belle Meade, was one of Nashville's largest slave-holding families. Learn more about this aspect of the estate on the tour and in the exhibits.

Stop in at the winery for a complimentary wine tasting if you like. You can also have brunch or lunch at the restaurant (own expense).

The guide was easy to understand and sympathetic to those that may need to sit during the tour by offering a chair at any point during the tour. The history given was just the right amount and didn’t feel too overwhelming. It is a lovely...More
