We went on a 2.5hr valley tour recently with Dineh Bekeyah Tours and it was the absolute best tour guide experience of our lives! First off, the tour is supposed to take maybe 8-10 people but they ran it even with just the 2 of us (we were the only ones to have booked it). We were in an open air vehicle and John, our tour guide expertly navigated it through all kinds of terrains and showed us the whole backcountry of the valley while narrating about the history of the Navajo people, their language, and his own experiences in addition to the relevance of monument valley in cinema and history (and all the cool photo locations and tricks!). At one point he played the flute for us under the birds eye archway and it was almost like we got a taste of history. The entire trip was almost emotional for us, it felt like we took a part of their culture with us that day. We would highly recommend choosing this tour and especially John who showed us a great time and would love to return again if we ever visit again.

Our guide was a native and shared his experiences growing up in the area, customs, spiritual practices, beliefs, and landmarks. Seeing this sacred land through his eyes was priceless. He even sang to us in his native language at the end of the trip. He supplied blankets which came in handy on the chilly, windy day. Joe took us to several iconic spots for picture taking and patiently used our cell phones to take pictures. We were able to visit several spots that aren't accessible to the public. Joe was kind, generous, and funny. He was a superb representative of his nation. This tour was a highlight of our 2 week Utah trip and one I would highly recommend without hesitation.

What a great time! Harry was our tour guide and was so informative. Along with telling us the stories behind the monuments and what they represented, he also gave us some Navajo history lessons. He taught us some Navajo expressions and words and sang us a couple songs. We took the back country tour and what an experience! We were able to see some of the wild horses in their native countryside., I would highly recommend this tour for anyone! Ask for Harry if you have the opportunity.

The tour was good but between the extremely bumpy ride and the dust I probably would not do it again. The guide knew the countryside and the culture of his people but his voice was a little soft and I was unable to hear some of what he said. The tour company needs to work out something with Monument Valley regarding the admittance tickets. We paid to be admitted when we arrived. Then after we boarded the truck bed we had to exit and come back into the area and show our tickets to the entry booth. The process took 20 or 30 minutes due to the car line and we were already at least 20 minutes behind schedule because our guide was late arriving. One more point, the step up onto the truck bed is not easy. Although the guide provided a stool there were a couple of stops where my wife, who has knee problems, and another lady who had had hip surgery, chose to stay on truck bed.

Born and raised in Arizona but never having the opportunity to see Monument Valley led me to take this tour while traveling from one hiking spot to another in Utah. Yes, I did go to Trip Advisor to research it first, much like many of you are doing now. I've heard throughut the years of the movies and videos produced here, but I never expected that besides all of the beauty in the Navajo Nation the most important thing that I would leave with would be the language, songs and stories that Harry would tell us. Harry was an amazing guide and taught us so much that my wife and I felt compelled to tell him that he needs to write a book to get his stories our to the world. While on the tour, he told us about how he grew up and had to attend boarding school and the manners that they were taught there. To get to school, he and his classmates would leave at 0430 in the morning to get to their school in Utah even though Kayenta, AZ was was less than a half hour drive away. He also spoke to us about their weddings, deaths and how much they admired the military. He had many family members and friends who served throughout the years. My wife and I also really appreciated his translation of the designs on our Native American jewelry. So, if you are somewhere nearby don't hesitate to take this tour. It will be well worth your time and money and learning experience like no other.

Suggest booking direct with Charlene. She was very responsive and thorough. Met us at the agreed time and introduced us to Joe, our guide for our 3.5 hour cultural and historic tour
Joe is a native and has lived in the area his entire life. Told us some great stories about his family and the land. Joe took us to some sites within the valley that are only accessible with a guide. The highlight was when he took us to a natural amphitheater with a hole in the roof, Big Hogan, and we laid on the rocks and he sang us a song in his native language. He also tried to teach us some words in Navajo, but not sure we were very good students.
This was well worth the cost of the private tour.

We had a trip to a Mexican resort all ready when we found out two weeks before that we would not be able to go. Given the time we had set aside for a vacation and available options, we decided on a road trip. On a suggestion of a friend, we included a stop with Monument Valley. The only issue? How best to see it. We came across several tours that were available, but none seemed to hit all of the right criteria. Then, I happened to click on the website for Dineh Bekeyah tours. We were able to save about $80 compared to other tours. We signed up with no troubles at all. After the first ~1000 mile leg of our journey, we arrived at Monument Valley in the meeting spot. Our guide wasn't quite there yet. When we called to confirm that we were in the right spot, the owner met us personally. Shortly there after, our guide met us and we set off. Our guide pointed out and explained not only the different mesas and buttes, but also explained various facets of Native American life in the area, let us see examples of petroglyphs. She took awesome pictures, answered our 8 year old's constant questions, and even treated us to a performance of her composition while we sat among the red sandstone formations. It was absolutely worth more than what we paid, and we HIGHLY recommend this tour!

We took this guided tour rather than doing the “Loop tour” ourselves and it did not disappoint!
We checked into The View Cabins, and we were happy that the meeting area for the tour was so convenient (right outside the View Hotel) ( highly recommend staying here also , see that review!)
Our guide/driver was Yvonne, she was welcoming, extremely knowledgeable and so very friendly. The tour starts at the same point the driving tour starts (tours jump the “long” line) the tour follows the same route, but it goes to areas only they are permitted.
The scenery is magnificent, and learning the meanings/culture behind what we were seeing was priceless. You are required to wear masks, d/t the Navajo Nation Covid rules,I suggest if you have a problem with the Navajo requirements, you don’t go, it’s a matter of respect for their need to protect. Would definitely recommend this for all ages!
Dress accordingly, our tour was at 9 AM, it was high 50’s and quite chilly when truck moving (all open)
Dress in layers that can be removed, took a backpack; please tip your guides well also! 😉

Taking the tour gives the Monument experience so much more depth than just viewing the rock formations. Our guide, John, explained the origins of monument names, and the meaning of the folklore behind them. He explained some aspects of the Navajo culture that added richness to my appreciation of the Navajo people
He even played the flute for us in the Big Hogan formation which was a profoundly spiritual experience
He was so engaging, the time flew by!

Several days later we are still marveling at the magical experience we had with John on our tour through Monument Valley! He gave us a wealth of information about what we were seeing and guided us to treasures we never would have experienced on our own. We appreciated his perspectives, the learning he shared and his endeavor to expand his knowledge of his Navajo culture and language in collaboration with his son. John treated us to a beautiful performance on his flute and helped us take gorgeous photographs so we can remember the extraordinary sights and sounds at home. He even provided a warm blanket when it got chilly during the tour! Thank you John and Dineh Bekeyah Tours! Ahe'hee' and Ha'goonee!
