This tour is an extended version of the lower valley rock tour. It included a demonstration of carding and spinning wool, and the best part was probably our guide sharing experiences from his childhood, and singing a couple of chants.

It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed it quite a lot, but the tour goes in all kinds of weather and on a windy day (like the day before) it would have been a lot less enjoyable.

The tour itself was very good. Our guide, Harry, was informative and gave lots of personal information and family history, and was a wealth of facts on geology, history, tribal politics/organization, and anthropology. He made a cold rainy day at the site fun with gentle jokes, warm blankets, and he even played music for us, and stopped for a moment to allow a relative (also a tour guide) explain things beyond what he shared. I could have done without the Hogan stop, but I understand this is how people make their money, and COVID has made it a tough year.

My only issue was the pick up process. I had booked, via email, a full day tour (Mystery Valley in the morning and Monument Valley in the afternoon.) The staff who emailed with me was great and very responsive. However, I showed up at the office at 8 on the day of my tour and no one was there. I called the number and there was no answer. Finally, a jeep from the company pulled up, and said I had to follow to the View hotel to board, and that the tour I booked was not available due to COVID. I totally understand things change every day, but if someone had called the day before, I could have slept in a bit and gone to the right place.

We stayed at The View Hotel, which was exceptional in itself, but we also took a private Cultural Tour of Lower Monument Valley Tribal Park. We were picked up right at the hotel. Our guide Yvonne (or Vonn) was extremely knowledgeable and well informed. She took the time not only to share her knowledge, but also listen carefully to our questions and answer them. It was a very spiritual experience and will never be forgotten! Thank you Vonn!

My wife and I did the 3.5 hour cultural tour offered by Dineh Bekeyah Tours - it was truly amazing! We were the only ones on this particular tour, so it was like having our own private tour! Our guide was Derek, who grew up in this area and so was able to explain much about Navajo customs and lifestyle. We had a weaving demonstration at a Navajo hogan far back in Monument Valley, where most tours do not go. The other highlight of the tour was when Derek played a Navajo melody on his hand carved flute, while my wife and I relaxed in the shade of one of the rock formations. Amazing! We learned a lot about local culture; saw scenery that was unbelievably beautiful; and came away with a truly uplifting feeling. This was why we came to Monument Valley!

We chose this 3.5hr cultural tour with Dinesh Bekeyeh pretty much at random, when faced with so many tour operators in Monument Valley ... and we are so pleased we did choose this one! The tour, with their absolutely fantastic guide John, was brilliant. John was very knowledgable, extremely helpful and very pleasant. We could not have had a better guide. He gave fascinating insights into all the MV sights, the Navajo people’s history and modern life, the geology of the area and so much more. We thoroughly recommend this company if this is the quality of tour they provide ... ask for John as your guide and you will not be disappointed.

Steven was an outstanding guide for our Cultural Tour. He is an engaging conversationalist who took the time to share interesting details of the Navajo (Dineh) culture and history (including relevant personal stories). He provided colorful descriptions of the (magnificent) surrounding geography, and was eager to engage in discussion regarding any questions we had. He definitely kept our interest for the full tour. We highly recommend Dineh Bekeyah Tours (and Steven in particular!).

Having visited Monument Valley a handful of times before, I was looking for a different experience this time around; therefore, the cultural tour caught my eye. Initially, I was afraid it might be the same Monument Valley tour I had been on before with the word "cultural" tacked on the title. My fears were immediately assuaged as it was uniquely different from the other standard Monument Valley tours I had been on in the past. We went much more in depth into the history, language and culture of the Díne/Navajo Nation. Derick taught us not only the Anglo names and stories behind the buttes, but the Navajo names and legends as well. He shared personal stories from his own family history. We discussed how history is taught differently between different groups. He taught us not only Navajo words, but broke down the meaning of them for us. We got to visit a hogan and watch a woman there weaving. She also asked for a volunteer to demonstrate a traditional Navajo bun. I volunteered and she brushed my hair with buffalo grass and styled it up. Incredible! I particularly enjoyed our conversation about racial definitions - i.e. whether to use the term indigenous, Native American or Navajo. In today's world, race and the construct of it is constantly shifting. It was interesting for me to learn how different generations view it. And I believe Derick had the best answer I have ever heard. He said he prefers the term Díne. When I'm in the Valley I like to use the term Díne, because I always thought it was the most respectful. Derick went even deeper and broke down the word itself, the story behind it and the meaning of each syllable. Such amazing depth! Finally, he also spoke about how much he enjoys working for the company running the tour. As as small business owner and employer myself, that is music to our ears! To hear that he feels respected in his work, valued by his employer and truly loves what he does was the icing on the cake. Honestly, this tour could not have been better. Highly recommend.

My 10-year old daughter and I took the Cultural Tour and it was really amazing. We booked it very short-notice (the night before), but Charlene was really accommodating and made sure we got exactly what we wanted. On the tour, we saw so many parts of the valley that we otherwise would never have been able to see, the jeep ride was really fun, and Harry, our truly amazing guide, told us so much both about the Valley as well as Navajo culture. We loved every second of it and learned a lot!

There was a problem in the beginning because I could not find my park pass (100% my fault), so we lost about 20 minutes with me scrambling to find it and I was sure that would come out of our tour time, but Harry still gave us the whole 3 1/2 hour tour, which was super kind. He also helped me take great pictures, and he helped my daughter climb a huge rock so she could take a picture of 'The Eye of the Sun.' And: when we came across wild horses (and my horse-loving daughter legitimately lost her little mind with happiness), Harry made an extra stop for us so we could watch them.

I seriously could not recommend them more!!!

While we enjoyed the tour, we feel that we learned very little about the Navajo lifestyle, traditions and culture. We overheard another tour guide explaining the rights of passage to adulthood and symbols. My husband asked questions about the symbols and the weaver told him to go look at the postcard. We got the impression that she was not very knowledgeable about the symbolism and she gave flippant somewhat sarcastic answers to his questions.

The guide did go out of his way to show us good photo opportunities, but the cultural emphasis was missing.

One of the best tours I’ve ever taken in my life.
Very educational, very professional guide. His knowledge of Monument Valley and the history of the Navajo people was exemplary. The 3.5 cultural tour was comprehensive and delightful.
I highly recommend this type of tour for its thoroughness and in depth knowledge of Monument Valley and the Navajo People.
John was our guide.
