What to expect
  • Make your way to a small shop and kitchen that’s walking distance from the Levanto train station, then meet a charismatic local chef who loves to share Ligurian food and culture. Start the class Italian-style—with a glass of sparkling wine and bruschetta made with local olive oil—then learn how Ligurian chefs make pesto using traditional tools. Next, roll up your sleeves to make the classic Genoa sauce from scratch. Wash and dry the fresh basil leaves, then pound them with salt, pine nuts, and garlic, finally blending in Parmesan cheese and extra virgin olive oil. Finally, enjoy a glass of white wine and a spread of local products, such as small, black taggiasche olives, bruschetta with anchovies, and a local pastry made with limoncino.

Nice pesto
Thanks Monie! That was a lot of fun! So many great flavours. We could try good wine, different pestos and oiles … and of course made the best pesto by ourself! A great start in the the day!

So much fun!
Feb 2020
We had a ball at the pesto class! It was easy to find and quick to get to, even from La Spezia. We sampled several different types of pesto, olive oil, Cinque Terre DOP wine, and other spreads, and then go into making the pesto. Delicious! Our teenage nieces had lots of fun, too.

After the class, we loaded up on goodies to take (and ship) home. It was a quick class, which left lots of time to continue exploring Cinque Terre afterwards. Really glad we did it.

This Peston Course was fabulous!
I had made pesto before ( many times) but, it was so fun making it with Monie.😍. She was very knowledgeable about the region, basilico and pesto. Her family was/is from Levanto and she still works with her parents and husband together..
We were celebrating our 25th anniversary and she made it even better by just being adorable and helping take pictures and videos! Levanto is beautiful!

Such an authentic experience - a must!
Aug 2019
Wasn't really sure what to expect but went based on reviews. So happy we did! We absolutely loved our personal class. Our teacher was fabulous - it was very casual yet highly informative, interactive and so fun! We had read to hike back from Levanto to our hotel in Monterosso (highly recommend the hike if you are up for 2.5 hrs!) but due to this, we couldn't actually buy anything in her lovely shop as we would have had to carry it on our hike! Such a lovely way to really roll up your sleeves and experience the Italian coast...I couldn't recommend it more!

Fun course, lots to taste with a great teacher!
Aug 2019 • Couples
The course is at the rear of a shop where they sell lots of pesto, olive oil, wine and other delicious items.

The chef gives you a bit of history of the local foods, makes pesto and then you get to make your own pesto. In the mean time you get slightly drunk on local win and eat a lot of lovely snacks.

All in all, a lot of fun!

Highly recommend!

A whole lot of fun and pesto!
May 2019
We really enjoyed our Pesto making course in Levanto. We had SO much fun with the group we were with taking turns making amazing pesto, drinking wine, and taste testing local olive oil and lemonchinno made in this region. We also sampled anchovies - which was a first for me. I would highly recommend this class for those looking to learn about the food of the region and how to make fresh great tasting pesto in a fun and lively environment!

Lots of shops sell oil & pesto & Plates & trinkets & stuff, but you should indulge in this experience, a glass of Fizz, a thoroughly engaging lady, a table full of tasty stuff and a hands on & taste buds on treat. Taste Pesto out of the jar then make your own and taste the difference !

Fun and Informative Pesto Making Class
Apr 2019 • Couples
This class was about more than just making great pesto. Our instructor provided a great education on the type of basil used, the traditional method of making pesto, and the alternative types of pesto made, and the different types of pasta available that I've not seen in the USA. My husband and I were the only ones to sign up for this day's class and the atmosphere was relaxed and casual. We chatted and sampled to our hearts content. We had a great experience and would highly recommend this class.
