Choose to bike back independently or buy a ferry ticket
Stress-free tour with bike and equipment rental included
What to expect
Your 3-hour Golden Gate Bridge bike tour starts at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, where you’ll meet your guide. Then take off along a mostly flat route that follows the waterfront of San Francisco Bay. Pedal past sights like Aquatic Park Cove, part of San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park, and enjoy views of Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge. Then continue past Fort Mason Center, a National Historic Landmark; Marina Green, where beautiful homes face the water; the Palace of Fine Arts, built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition; and Crissy Field, part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area. When you arrive at Fort Point, at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge, take advantage of a great photo op of the iconic red towers before crossing the bridge’s 1.7-mile (2.7-km) span, which ends at Vista Point, another panoramic viewpoint for photos of the bay and city skyline. Complete the last stretch of your bike tour into Sausalito, a small, upscale town known for its picturesque waterfront scenery. From Sausalito, you will be on your own to continue exploring however you wish. Continue biking around the area, using your provided map to perhaps conquer the hills of the Marin Headlands or see more of San Francisco, such as the Presidio or Ocean Beach; refuel with food and drinks at one of Sausalito’s many restaurants (own expense); and return to the city at your leisure, either by biking back across the bridge or taking the ferry from Sausalito with your bike (ferry tickets are at your own expense). Your bike tour includes full-day bike rental, so you can use your bike independently before and/or after your guided tour. Select a departure time for your tour when booking.

Adam, our guide loves The City and shows. He gives a great historical perspective of the landmarks we saw on our ride!
I live history and Adam made it so interesting to learn about the Golden Gate Bridge, Chrissy Field, Fort Mason and so many other places we visited along our ride.

Fantastic tour!!! I was the only one who rode back rather than ferry back, glad I did (My tour guide was also amazing, he was like a Historian... (turns out he studied History in college, Ha!!) ..... It was soo amazing I rented the same E-bike and did it AGAIN the following day and did the whole tour-route again including exploring the Presidio, Baker and China Beaches, Lands End and over to Sausalito again... There is absolutely no comparable way of seeing that much even if you had a car there...

Really enjoyed this bike tour. The guide was very attentive to everyone's needs and paced the bike appropriately. It was a bit challenging going across the bridge with all of the bike and pedistrian traffic, but the guied made it very clear where we should ride. Don't plan on biking back unless you are training for the Tour de France. The hill is very very challenging. Take the ferry!

Wonderful day riding
Jan 2020 • Couples
A great half day tour with Steven riding through SF from fisherman’s Wharf to Sausalito
Steven was very knowledgeable and easy going and explained a lot about the areas we were in and the history
The ride was not hard at all but there are a couple of short stretches with steep hills but nothing to worry about and easily walked if it’s too much.
The trip ends in Sausalito where there is a ferry every hour or so back to the wharf.
Unless you are a habitual cyclists it’s unlikely you will want to climb back up from Sausalito to return by bike. The ferry is $13 each.
Wonderful views of the bridge and harbour and bike is the best way to take advantage of it all.
(The complaints about the condition of the bikes seem unfounded as they were in good condition and perfect for purpose)
I also missed the fact that the bikes are yours or the day included in the tour

The bridge and views from a completely different perspective.
We had recommendations from friends to take a cycle tour over the Golden Gate Bridge and with Bay City Bike Rentals, we did just that. We took the option of the standard (non-electric) bike, which, on the whole, was a good idea. The ride is fun, exhilarating and informative.

Our guide for the tour was Adam whose passion for the job and for the area was clearly evident. There was a good mix of local information, historical information and also lots of opportunities for some great photographs. We were blessed too with the weather on the day we toured, which made it even nicer.

The tour does involve a couple of steep climbs, which may be hard for some riders. If you think this may be an issue, the centre does offer upgrades to electric bikes which may be worth considering - it’s a purely personal choice. When you’ve crossed the bridge, there is also a steep road down into the lovely town of Sausalito. It’s quite a busy road, but drivers are clearly used to cyclists sharing the road; it is just worth noting that you come down pretty quickly!

When you collect your bikes, you will need to sign a waiver and also opt in/out of the $4 insurance per bike, as well as opting to pay for the return ferry from Sausalito. This is worth doing and it is also worth making some time to explore this lovely little town before you head back.

I would really recommend this tour as a great way to see some views of the Bay that other tours don’t offer and to get a bit of a workout as well.
