Ummm don’t do it
Is it me I am on a Wine Train and the only drink we were offered was water at 7 dollars a bottle, the food started to arrive before we realised that if you want a drink you have to go out of you way to get one. There was no information about the vineyards and the food was far from gourmet. Also you are looking at a road for most of the journey. I know this is an old train however the upholstery is breaking down covering clothes in a yellow dust. To top it all you only get your table for half of the journey and you are moved to another car to sit in a station looking at some housing. This cost with transport from San Francisco 800 dollars, I will never get those 3 hours back!!!

Great food and fun
Nov 2018 • Friends
Just completed a trip with 40 guests on a privately scheduled wine train and the entire group was VERY impressed with the food and service. Jacob, Jesse and the executive chef Don and staff were all fabulous. The food was delicious. At the end of a 4 day trip to Napa the Wine Train was the favorite activity.

Lovely to hear from you on your Group of 40 aboard a Private Wine Train journey was the Wine Train being the highlight of your 4-day event. We couldn't agree with you more. Executive Chef Donald Young has brought a wealth of experience and culinary expertise to the Wine Train the last 3 years. The culinary team exceeds expectations. We will ensure the leadership and operations team know that you appreciated Jacob and Jesse and the rest of the staff on board as well. Thank you again for booking with us; please do come back again.

NICE TRAIN RIDE
Oct 2018
The Gourmet Lunch was delicious and the train ride was very nice. There were several stops on the way back for some reason which was a little annoying. The write up mentioned there would be someone explaining the difference between the different wineries, however no one did. It would have been a better learning experience if there was someone explaining the difference between the wineries.

Waiting waiting
We did the gourmet lunch and Raymond winery. Once we arrived at the train station we waited over an hour for tour to start. Once we started, we relaxed and enjoyed the drive to Raymond Winery. Raymond winery was excellent and the tastings were wonderful. Then off to the train for lunch. The train, service and lunch was superb. Our tour ended at 2.30 and we had to wait 2 hours for the shuttle ride back to the ferry. Waited a 30 mins for ferry. We had to stop at fisherman’s wharf, before reaching the ferry terminal. As we were the first tour back I feel that our tour should have been shuttled back earlier, rather than wait for 2 more tours to finish. It took 5 1/2 hours to arrive at the terminal from tour completion.. I would suggest a different wine train tour, rather than the Raymond gourmet lunch tour. When we arrived back at our hotel we were absolutely shattered

We are so glad you enjoyed the Gourmet Express Lunch and Raymond Winery Tour. Love to hear you enjoyed our fine cuisine, and the service was exceptions. Regarding the transportation you selected from San Francisco to Napa. it sounds as if you choose the Ferry from the Terminal Building in SF at the Embarcadero, that departs early in the morning and returns to SF around 6:30 pm at night. The SF Connection is a great option for folks that don't mind the set schedule. Guest may want to consider other modes of transportation to Napa such as rental car, care service companies.

Plush Train! Exceptional Wine Tour!
Sep 2018 • Couples
This was a very fun tour. The wine train was neat. The food was excellent and the train itself was plush and deluxe. I wish the trip were longer. It would have been nice to have time to enjoy the lounge cars. The wine tour that accompanied the train trip was exceptional! We visited Raymond Vineyards and they went all out with their tour experience. The winery itself was something special, but the tour didn't have you just walking through large rooms with large vats and then stopping for a sip or two at the end. Instead, they met you outside, walked with you through their gardens and gave you large pours at various points of interest... and THEN you went for a walk through large rooms with large vats... with cirque du soleil mannequins hanging from the ceiling.

The tour and facilities were definitely five-star. I withheld a star due to the mix-up in picking us up for the tour in SFO. We ended up contacting them when they didn't show up at the meeting point. It seemed everyone got the information as to a revised location other than us. Disappointing, but we shrugged it off and had a fabulous day. Ending the day with a ferry ride back to SFO was icing on the cake!

Relaxing and informative ride
Jul 2018
As part of a larger group, we were treated like royalty upon seating with a glass of the grape. Moving from the seating to the dining car, we were then treated to a delicious lunch, offering choices of meat, fish or a vegetarian offering. My salmon was simply, but deliciously. prepared. We stopped at two wineries where were able to taste. They afforded us history as well. The train ride showed the devastation and rebirth of the terrain after last year's fires.

Would not do it again
Aug 2018 • Friends
A long day in a train car that had issues with the air conditioning, by the end of the tour it was uncomfortably hot.

The food was good as well as the service.

It's expensive but becomes more expensive because drinks are not included.

We did the Familia tour and stopped at 4 vineyards but for 3 of the 4 vineyards we were loaded on small coaches and taken to the winery's.

One of the best ways to visit the area and taste wine in a very relaxed vibe, the landscape is amazing and the staff very professional.

I recommend it.

Wonderful day out!
My husband and I went on the Legacy Tour to celebrate my 40th birthday. It is pricey but worth it for a unique experience that fills an entire day. We had a great time! The 3 wineries that we visited were so beautiful and the wines we tasted were all excellent. It was great that each tour was slightly different in the way it was done, the type of wines tasted and the stories the hosts told. The food on the train was really delicious as well. It was just lovely to sit back in style and take in the gorgeous scenery while being whisked from one winery to another. We paid extra for the ferry transfer from San Francisco which was well-organised and definitely worth it for extra relaxation time.
A couple of negatives: it would have been good to have someone from the train fill us in on what the day was going to be about at the very start of the day and also to explain what’s included and not. Obviously all the tasters at the vineyards are complimentary but the wine on the train is for purchase, which could have been made a bit clearer.
From the photos, I had expected a bigger train with a lounge carriage where you could go and relax when not eating. However it was just one small train carriage and unfortunately there was a particularly loud guest just across the aisle from us which made the whole experience a lot less relaxing and peaceful than it could have been. But obviously this isn’t really the fault of the wine train.
Still a wonderful and memorable day which I would thoroughly recommend if you enjoy wine, good food, beautiful scenery and have a special occasion to celebrate!

This trip wasted my limited time in Napa
Jun 2018 • Solo
If you do the train, you must sign up for one of the longer tours like the Estate tour or the Familia tour. Because of the price, I choose to stop at only one winery and have lunch on the train and it seemed I spent most of my time on a shuttle bus or waiting around. And for what I paid for the Raymond Winery tour, I felt like I tasted very little wine unless I wanted to pay more for a glass on the train (not included). I do not recommend this train unless you want to spend $$ on the pricey tours. Also, don't expect to walk around the train much to explore its ambiance because it's too bumpy. And eat breakfast before you go if you aren't going on the longer tours because there isn't a morsel of food available (unless you want to buy it) until lunch which on my tour was at 2pm. All in all, I prefer Santa Barbara or Santa Cruz for wine tasting, but maybe if I had seen Napa another way, I would have a different opinion.

We're so sorry we didn't meet your expectations on our tour. We've had many fantastic responses to our Raymond excursion. We do encourage all guests to eat the meal prior to the one your are arriving for. We do go slowly through the valley so that guests can enjoy the scenery and safely navigate our train to explore. But yes, it is naturally bumpy. Napa Valley is full of so many experiences and we also have a plethora of tours...we hope you'll come back and give our wine country another chance some time!
