Together, the exhibits are home to more than 20,000 sea creatures. Stay all day if you wish. The aquarium is yours to explore at your own pace. Discover the Bay Exhibit: Ever wonder why anchovies swim in schools, or what life is like for a newly hatched skate in San Francisco Bay? Learn answers to questions like these in the Discover the Bay exhibit area, which is also where you find some of the bay’s brightest sea creatures, including green moray eels and California’s state marine fish, the orange garibaldi. Under the Bay Exhibit: Thousands of marine animals, including octopuses, swim above and around you as you meander along a 300-foot (90-meter) tunnel system of clear glass. Disappointing for the price. Small and unimpressive. I wouldn’t recommend. We only went because we got stuck in San Francisco (with two young kids) for three days due to canceled flights. I definitely won’t go again next time I’m in San Francisco.

I came here as part of the gocity pass. While I did enjoy it, if I was paying the full $29 for this experience I would be pretty disappointed. It's overall a short experience, takes less than an hour to go through.

Definitely not a must do, but if you have the pass, it is worth dropping by quickly if you are at Pier 39.

The aquarium itself was ok. The conditions under which the octopus is kept are disgusting. A tiny aquarium which doesn't allow for any movement, much too small for the creature - apparently it was moved from the large tank so that it could be visible at all times. Cruel and sickening.

My favorite part was walking underneath the tunnel with fish and seeing all of the different animals in the aquarium.

We went to this aquarium because it was part of the city pass we bought. I would avoid going to this aquarium. They had a neat tunnel you walk through. Some tanks of fish and some otters. Then there's the required none water animals. There is a squirrel and some reptiles. We finished it less then an hour. Don't waste your money.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. The Aquarium of the Bay features over 20,000 marine animals from the San Francisco Bay and its watershed and takes about an hour to explore. The squirrel, though clearly not a water animal, was rescued in 2018 by the Aquarium of the Bay after the Woolsey Fire in southern California. The price of admission not only ensures smooth operations of our facility but also supports the other institutions in the BayEcotarium involved in restoration projects, research, education, and conservation. We appreciate your visit and thank you again for your review!

Very small aquarium with minimal animals and exhibits. We were sorely disappointed. It definitely wasn't worth the money to get in. It was incredibly overcrowded (on a Tuesday) and we felt like cattle being herded through narrow walkways. Do not recommend.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. The Aquarium of the Bay features over 20,000 marine animals from the San Francisco Bay and its watershed. Due to COVID restrictions, however, some of our interactive exhibits may currently be closed. The price of admission not only ensures smooth operations of our facility but also supports the other institutions in the BayEcotarium involved in restoration projects, research, education, and conservation. Our location is in a major tourist area in San Francisco, and it does get very busy during the summer months. We often recommend that guests visit earlier in the day to avoid crowds. We appreciate your visit and thank you again for your review!

Way over priced for the less than 40 min walk through. Only real cool thing was touching some sea creatures. I would not go back here again. You are better off watching YouTube videos or the discovery channel.

I have seen better aquariums. I hoped this one would be better since it was by the pacific ocean and the bay. Smaller in size then compared to some. My kids still enjoyed it.

Don’t waste your money. Even though we had reserved tickets for 4:00 pm and arrived at 3:30 we still were in line for 1.5 hours just to get in. When we finally got in we found displays that were sticky and not working, very minimal and small aquatic animal displays to see, a broken people mover, but the worst part was that they obviously oversold tickets. We were jammed in narrow doorways and dead ending hallways to the point one person had a panic attack (and this during COVID)?! I’ve been to a lot of zoos snd aquariums around the USA and I’ve seen better aquariums in smaller towns (like Myrtle Beach, SC) that put this tired, outdated one to shame.

We were at Pier 39 so enjoyed going to see the fish at the Aquarium of the Bay. The sharks were intriguing. The other fish were fun to see. Its a nice hour or so walk through a smaller but still good California aquarium.
