- jvpritc0 contributionsTerrific TourWNC Tours provided us with an exceptional photo tour experience is the Asheville NC area. Jay took us some of the most breathtaking photo spots in the Pisgah National forest. His instruction on both camera and iPhone were brilliant and invaluable. He even knew where the best coffee stands were located. My wife is the expert photographer in the family and she learned quite a bit on tour and she was very pleased. We enjoyed a wonderful day in his company, and it was well worth the cost of tour and then some. We highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience.Written 29 September 2020
- Happiness1594230 contributionsHighly Recommended for the Learning Experience and the Views!Jay was excellent in taking the time to explain how to use the camera and how to get the best shots. I highly recommend taking this tour if you want to learn how to take better pictures. Jay also knows the out of the way places to go to take pictures so you're not dealing with crowds of people.Written 24 September 2020
- 4NatureLovers0 contributionsFantastic Tour!I went on a tour with WNC Photo Tours on November 8, 2019. I was hoping to catch some fall color, but the only time I could get into town was after a storm and the leaves were all off the trees. J was my tour guide, and he made sure I got plenty of shots even without the colorful leaves. He gave me some great tips for photographing waterfalls and creating interesting compositions. We hiked to a gorgeous spot to photograph the sunset, and I got some great shots of the layers over the mountains. It was a wonderful experience! For some reason I can’t get my waterfall photo to upload, but it was the best one I’ve ever taken. Thanks so much, J!Written 25 May 2020
- ashnwarren0 contributionsExpert photography guidance AND a personable tour guide!Myself and another photographer friend took a tour with Jay back in mid-November. We wanted to explore waterfalls and spots off the beaten path and we did just that! Jay took us to a secluded waterfall that really was a spectacular gem! Me and my friend were both up for a hike and some climbing and our photo adventure with Jay did not disappoint! I was skeptical at first as to whether I would learn anything new as a photographer because I'm already well-versed as a portrait and wedding photographer. However, I learned so much by watching Jay shoot. We also talked a lot of technical stuff in the car, which got my creativity flowing and inspired me to try some new shooting and post-processing techniques. Jay was also very personable and we got into some great non-photography conversations while driving around with him throughout the day. Jay was very accommodating and laid-back the entire experience was fun and pleasant! Takeaway: whether you're a local pro or a visitor to the High Country who wants to have both an educational and fun outdoor experience, taking a tour with WNC Photo Tours is a fantastic way to explore the area!Written 19 December 2019
- AJBarker_780 contributionsWonderful Day with WNC Photo ToursA friend and I did a full day photo tour and it was really awesome. We both learned a lot of techniques for our specific cameras. J was patient and very knowledgeable. WNC Photo Tours is highly recommended! Thank you, J!!Written 22 November 2019
- Leesussman0 contributionsGreat way to see the Smokey MountainsJay was great. He took me places I would never have found myself. Not only did we get great photos, he was very helpful in taking my photography to the next level. This is a must do if you are visiting the Asheville area. Thanks Jay.Written 5 November 2019
- amelia_in_asheville0 contributionsMagical trek through the Appalachain MountainsOur tour was AMAZING!!! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the WNC Appalacian mountains, and seemed to know every corner of this beautiful landscape, showing me places I’d never seen, and I’ve been here most of my life! Our guide’s knowledge of camera, software, and photo composition is communicated in a way that can help anyone understand- in such an accessible way. Not only is he a technical genius, but the thing that struck me the most was the way he sees the world. To be around J in nature is to have the gift of seeing the world through his eyes, his valuable and exquisite perspective. He sees small communities and elaborate lifelines and biological cycles within even the smallest patch of moss. I found myself slipping into his movements and experiencing discoveries with each point of his finger or choice of direction. The tour we took was an experience that can change one’s entire paradigm, in addition to the wealth of information to record and preserve the magic that you will encounter. When you step into his world and sees things in the way he does, you will never want to go back. I can not recommend a tour with WNC Photo Tours enough, nor say as clearly as I would like how absolutely expansive and valuable this tour, and the access to J, was for me.Written 21 October 2019
- KayBeeDeeCee0 contributionsExcellent guide and dayJ was a great guide! He was easy to get along with and knew so much about the area and where all the good places to go during different times of day, including when the weather wasn't 100% ideal. He taught me a lot about how to frame pictures and different concepts to think about in photography. When I got back to my hotel and went through the pictures I took I was so impressed at how they came out and the fact that I actually took them. He has a great eye for capturing nature and I'm so grateful I was able to learn from him so that maybe I start to see the shots he is able to envision. Definitely want to go back in the Spring!Written 17 October 2019
- Brendan R0 contributionsLearned a lot and had a great trip!Had a nice time on the Parkway Pinnacle Tour with J. There were so many great photo opportunities! And I learned a good bit about my new camera. Hope to come back and do another tour in the spring!Written 29 September 2019

The hike was pretty easy and we learned a lot from our guide in the time we spent together. We hope to come back and do the same tour in the spring when the rhododendrons are blooming. If you’re in the Asheville area and looking for something interesting and fun to do I would recommend a half day photo tour with J. I went on the spring rhododendron photo shoot. J met us exactly where and when he said he would. Drove us up on the parkway where he is very knowledgeable of the area and where and when the rhododendron blooms are peak. He also has has a good knowledge of photography and can help you capture some great images to take home. When some photo tours cost $XXXX J is a very reasonable alternative. Well worth the money and a great guide.

Excellent local photo tour. J picked us up from our hotel as arranged. He then drove us to 2 different waterfalls and gave hands on instruction. We then went on the blue ridge parkway to get sunset shots from multiple different lookouts. We will definitely book again. I highly recommend you touch base with him directly for the best experience. Thanks Kenny&Jenny

This is my 2nd trip with WNC Photo Tours. J knows all the good places, times of the year, and conditions to ensure you have a jaw-dropping experience. For this tour, we Went out to Roan Mountain pre-dawn to capture the sunrise over the weekend's snow. It was peaceful and beautiful, and I got some great images. Thanks, J, for this memorable opportunity!

I had an amazing time with J and learned quite a few tricks and tips to help my photography skills with landscape. He showed me some amazing spots in the blue ridge parkway and off course the best part was shooting the sunset on the mountain. I hope to repeat the tour this fall!!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful waterfalls and sites of Pisgah National Park. However, the highlight of the trip was working with J. We spoke in advance so that J could customize our tour. His knowledge of both the area and photography were extremely enlightening. We highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to go "off the beaten path" and hoping to learn more about photography.

I booked Jay for a 5 hour custom 1:1 tour and loved every second of it. The afternoon we met it was pouring rain BUT he had great knowledge of multiple spots on the Blue Ridge Parkway which put above and away from the rolling showers. Jay is very communicative and made sure I was getting what I needed with always a Plan B if weather got in the way. Also he was right on point with suggestions to help my composition and manual settings on my Canon. I would book again with Jay.

Jay was personable and accommodating! He picked us up at our hotel in Asheville and based our tour on our preferences. He spent time assisting my wife, who is a novice level photographer and still was able to give me (more advanced photographer) help and pointers along the way. We captured great waterfall and sunset photographs. We really enjoyed our experience.

J tailored the half-day trip in order to instruct me on enhancing my photo skills and to photo some of the most beautiful areas around Asheville. The waterfall off the beaten path, the rhododendrons off the Blue Ridge Parkway…all made for great content for photos…and some great memories. Looking forward to the next tour-we will return to Asheville and join J again! Highly recommend!!

Jay was extremely informative and dished out some handy tips for taking my photography to the next level. Above all else, he was willing to tailor the experience to my preferences. I preferred not to hike too much and to see a wide variety of sites and he made it happen. Would highly recommend as a great way to see the beauty of Western North Carolina!

Jay's passion for photography was a major contributor to the experience being totally enjoyable. I purchased the half-day trip as a gift to my husband and went along to watch and see the Fall colors. Jay was so inviting to photography that I ended up taking as many pictures as my husband. Ending the trip on the Parkway at sunset was fantastic.
I have already used the tips Jay provided and continue to take photos, now we have pictures of my husband, not just me. Thanks, Jay!
