About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- conniee4470 contributionsNo trip for us!In late March we attended a silent auction fund raising dinner sponsored by SDSU students working to bring nutritional fresh fruits and vegetables to low income families. We bid $300 on a 2 hour sailing tour for 6 people donated by San Diego Sailing Tours. We were the highest bidder. I called their office, spoke with Corey who had arranged for this donation, and we scheduled our tour for sometime in June. The trip had to be reschduled as one of our group member's mother passed away. We called the office again and Corey said no problem (this was weeks before we were scheduled to depart) and we set a new date. This date had to be rescheduled again due to a member getting Covid but, once again, they had several days notice. Our new tour date was yesterday at 1pm. At noon yesterday I received a call from the owner saying we had never paid for the trip to which I explained that this had been a donation to a charity. His response was that we should have been charged for both rescheduled dates AND owed him sales tax. I have never paid sales tax on a donation! It was going to cost us $284 more dollars for our 2 hour cruise. He said that Corey had been fired for embezzlement. I do hope he takes Corey to court and am sympathetic to his financial problem, but a businessman has to take responsibilty for their employees actions on the job. We declined to go sailing yesterday, having a bad taste in our mouths by this shake down. It's okay...we made a donation to a worthwhile charity. As a long time resident of San Diego County, we have arranged for many adventures on the bay for visiting friends and family. Pretty sure we won't be using this particular outfit.Written 18 September 2024

- Trek5653010 contributionsS D Harbour TourThe trip was all we expected and more. Our captain, Sal, was very personable and knowledgeable about sailing the Harbor and coastal area. Our main complaint would be with the quality of food & drink options. Lunch was advertised but there were just chips and snacks available. And, it looked like some if the wine bottles had been opened before. Also, he hull and bathroom ares were quite messy, though we didn't spend much time there. In summary, we enjoyed our 4 hours and Captain Sal, but the shortfalls mentioned would make it difficult to recommend this tour to others.Written 28 August 2024

- edlC2601ER0 contributionsHighly recommend captain Sal.We sailed on the Lili Koi with captain Sal and had a great sail. It was a low key and relaxing trip and was fun to tack the boat while captain Sal managed the sails. Saw a lot of seals, sea lions and bird life. Also informative about the navy vessels and submarine base. Even learned about flag signaling.Written 3 August 2024
- vickilynn630 contributionsAVOID THIS COMPANY!AVOID this small business. They call at the last minute and cancel tours you have prepaid for and DO NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY! Captain “Corey” appears to be a scam artist from reading other reviews.Written 27 July 2024
- Roving286183778820 contributionsSailing in the Pacific! We had a wonderful time on the Wildlife Tour. The Captain was a gracious host, and he did a great job skippering the boat. He let me take the helm and taught me how to work the winches. The boat was lovely and the experience was a lot of fun. I was happy to sail in the harbor and the Pacific.Written 25 June 2024
- porter_osborne0 contributionsVery nice eveningMy wife and I truly enjoyed the sunset sail. We were aboard with two ladies who were on vacation. The snacks and drinks were a perfect touch for the sail. The only obstacle is finding the office and or boat. Allow a couple of extra minutes for that.Written 9 June 2024

- Sunshine6292150 contributionsFun 2-hour sail!My husband and I had a wonderful 2-hour morning sail and learned a lot about the history of San Diego, including the US Naval bases there. We saw tons of wildlife and especially enjoyed watching the sea lions sunbathe and frolic in the water. Heartily recommend!Written 15 September 2023

- boxingpam0 contributionsBeautiful private moonlight cruiseWe did a Moonlight sail and Corey was our Captain. It was a beautiful night, Corey was a great and informative captain and we got an unexpected bonus of fireworks off the Midway ship and bioluminescence algea in the water. It was FANTASTIC!!!Written 1 September 2023
- Extraordinary7773940 contributionsSailing AwayBeautiful day of sailing and our Captain Sal was wonderful. We all enjoyed this very special day for us. We were a large group and locals to San Diego. Packaged snacks were offered and we brought our own snacks as well. Had a great day. The real drawbacks had to do with the price and the boat. The boat was old. For the price paid, which was a lot…the boat for a large private group should have been a lot more sleek and glamorous. There were lots of add ons; per person over 6 people there was a fee, and of course the tip. We are experienced sailors and had a great time. Just will look for more cost effective companies and newer fleet next time.Written 31 July 2023
- Erdem M0 contributionsGreat way to spend 3 hoursAmazing way to spend 3 hours sailing around San Diego! Jim (our captain) and Kathy were excellent hosts and we enjoyed sailing with the beautiful boat. We saw seals and seabirds up close and loved every minute on the water. Not every season is whale or dolphin migration season, so do not expect to see them at every trip ;) Highly recommended! Remember to bring lots of sunscreen and a hat!Written 2 July 2023

It was my GF first time ever on an ocean boat, let alone a sail boat and Captain Terry did an excellent job of making us both comfortable and making sure that our beer was never empty for too long. We can't wait to go again. It's a leisurely ride and we could just feel the stress melting away.

This was the best, most memorable, relaxing thing we did in SD. Closest to heaven I've ever been. I chose a sailboat over a larger charter for the quietness. I also chose a private rental for two so we had the boat to ourselves. Its well worth the price, if you want romance sans children. Our captain Curtis arrived promptly. The sailboat was impeccable. Weather was SD perfect. I suggest sitting in the front of the sailboat for the best views. Cruise was 2 hours long. It included circling the bay and Pacific ocean inlet. We passed sea lions sunning themselves on a dock and saw many aquatic birds. Excellent views of Coronado, Tijuana, Cabrillo Point, and the USS Midway aircraft carrier museum. The captain was great - knowledgeable without being intrusive. He served us drinks and had some fantastic suggestions on places to visit after our cruise ended. Arrive early so you can find free parking on Harbor drive. The marina parking is small and charges.

"Captain Curtis" took us out for the sail and he was great. He was on time and he pointed out various landmarks and points of interest. A highlight was seeing the sea lions ! He provided beverages and cheese and crackers during the tour.

Our tour with Captain Alan (Allen?) was lovely. We were offered drinks and snacks for our excursion, and also got a meat and cheese platter about half-way through the tour. We sat up front and had amazing views. It was so peaceful and relaxing! It was a bit breezy because it is still winter, but there are blankets if you get cold. We got to see sea lions up close as well. Our Captain took us down by the base to catch a glimpse of the submarines before we turned around and came back. It was definitely one of my favorite things we did out here in San Diego. Captain Alan let us be to enjoy the experience but was always willing to answer questions. On the way back in, we sat down in the cockpit area because the wind became a bit too cold. He shared really cool stories with us about his various sailing jobs and a lot of the cool maritime history things available in the area. I would do this again.
On a side note: I do get motion sick in basically everything, but I took a half a Dramamine, and I was fine the whole time!

Truly great day with Captain Terry. As an experienced sailor of many years, I found him to be knowledgeable and extremely competent. He expertly piloted the harbor waters and we were delighted to be under sail alone for the best part of the day. He had a keen eye for the weather and conditions (is it always this nice in San Diego?), and pointed out so many local highlights and landmarks that we almost felt we could sail our own boat into San Diego like old hands. Could not recommend this more to any one interested in a great sailing experience, whether an old salt like me, or a landlubbers looking for an initiation to cruising under sail!

Very relaxing. Not impressed with captain, who seemed hesitant to open up sails, when he did with this "favorite" blue sail boat, did not seem very comfortable with operation.

Captain Kyle did a wonderful job with a very windy afternoon and entertained us with interesting information about the bay and harbor. This was the third time we did this sail and will definitely repeat!
