It’s not near where it happened and this is not to be confused with The National September 11 Memorial Museum nor the 9/11 Tribute Museum. You start off with a headset explaining what you’re going to witness then a video explaining who Gary is and what he did for the aftermath of 9/11. Gary was the official photographer for ground zero and was also our tour guide. His museum was small but hugely informative. We were able to not only listen to a historical event but interact with it. I’m not sure what other museum could possibly have the artifacts he collected from his time and allow you to touch it. Gary was a very amazing guy who answered everything we asked, treated us like friends and he did all the audio recordings from his experience. It was both very eye opening and moving. To anyone who visits New York, or a local, I highly recommend coming here. If I ever visit New York again, I will be coming back.

Having already visited the main 911 Museum we found this setting and collection told the story of that awful day in a calmer way; without the crowds it was easier to take in the events of that awful time as it unfolded through the photographs.
At first we were surprised how small the room was but we spent as long here as we did in the other much larger museum. During that time we were able to view over a hundred exhibits and listen to the story behind each item told by the photographer, Gary Marlon Susan, himself via a personal head set.
It was not until we came to leave that we realised that the guy that greeted us on arrival and was in attendance through out our visit was Gary himself. What an amazing guy - he has also paid a price for being involved in the recovery of Ground Zero
If you only have time to visit one 911 collection while visiting New York let it be this one - you won’t be disappointed

Having been twice now, I cannot recommend this museum workshop enough. This small (but highly informative) museum is filled with all sorts of artefacts and photographs that tell the tragic story of 9/11 - some of which you are allowed to touch. Our visit was lead by the photographer himself (Gary), who was appointed as the official ground zero photographer in the aftermath of the attack. After watching a short video, we were given audio headsets and were able to wonder around the workshop at our own pace. We were there for about 2 hours, but could easily have spent longer.

Having been to the official 9/11 memorial museum at ground zero as well, I would definitely recommend this one. This workshop does a great job at offering a slightly difference perspective on the memorialisation of 9/11 through the photographer’s lens. It focuses predominantly on the first responders who were responsible for the clean up operation, and tells the personal stories of those involved. The museum is both thoughtful and tasteful, and not something to be missed.

Gary thank you so much for your wonderful and inspiring talk, and explanation of all your inspirational photos and artifacts yesterday. This is such an intimate and off the beaten track experience, in this little museum in the Meatpacking District. We did a walking tour in the morning, and then came on to this straight afterwards and it worked beautifully, getting the detail behind what we had seen in the morning. Having visited the main museum afterwards, this museum offers something different and definitely more personal; and you get something different from each experience. It felt an honour to hear you talk about your work directly; thank you Gary and we hope you got that coffee!

I was apprehensive about going to the Ground zero 911 Memorial because I thought it would be too emotional. I then saw a few reviews of this workshop and I knew it would be small and intimate, and I thought it would be good for my 13 year old daughter and I. It was my favorite part of the day! It was emotional, but not in a way where I feel overwhelmed. It is so intimate, and seeing artifacts up that close, along with the narration and photography, was just spectacular. It is so real, raw, but a very beautiful tribute as well. I highly recommend! Gary was wonderful, And has created a very special place to honor all of those involved in this national tragedy.

Of all the sights and sounds in NYC, the 9/11 Workshop Museum is an experience you should not miss. Don’t let the word “museum” scare you. This is an intimate experience for the inquisitive. In a cool studio tucked in the meatpacking district, Gary Suson, 9/11 official photographer and museum founder, tells the human story of this tragedy through his award winning photographic images alongside the largest collection of 9/11 artifacts. A self-guided audio tour allows the visitor to meander the collection and learn about what occurred at Ground Zero in the days, weeks, and months during of the recovery effort. When planning a day to enjoy the Highline and Chelsea Market, I recommend calling ahead or going online to book a visit.
A portion of the proceeds from this museum goes to the families of 9/11 first responders. Gary’s relationship with the 9/11 tragedy is personal, and through his artistry he will touch your heart as well. We will never forget.

This is a wonderful museum that everybody should see to learn about 9/11. There are so many items from the 9/11 site (some that you can actually hold) and many amazing photographs. There is a fascinating story to each and every item and photograph. Gary who was the official photographer at the site is a very talented photographer and is a wealth of knowledge and has so many important stories to tell. I am a first responder at 9/11 and the whole experience at the museum and workshop brings the story of 9/11 to life. I went with my wife and we are going to tell all our friends to see the museum and meet Gary.

The museum workshop tour is definitely worth your time while in NYC. We had toured the large 9/11 museum and Ground Zero a few years ago. This experience is an intimate workshop where we interacted with Gary himself as our guide. We got to see the process he experienced as the only photographer allowed during the recovery effort. He displays many priceless artifacts that give you the sense of what a normal typical day 9/11/01 started out as— people living their daily life — that changed in an instant. We learned new information with this tour that we never knew before. I can’t believe it has been 20 years. Places like the workshop tour help to educate and more importantly to remember because we need to continue to tell these stories and Never Forget!

A must stop for all NYC visitors. Gary has captured the event that changed our lives in 2001. As a veteran of Afghanistan in 2002 and Iraq 2005, this museum was extremely moving and the best first stop before heading to the 9-11 Memorial. It also puts the heroic efforts of our first responders in a context that will make visiting the 9-11 Museum even more meaningful. Watching my daughter pick up artifacts from Ground Zero was worth every penny. Please stop by and visit this workshop that continues to contribute to our first responders with every ticket purchase.
