Overview
One of the world’s greatest art museums, the Metropolitan Museum of Art — aka the Met — is so vast you could easily spend days inside. This  3-hour tour cuts to the chase, taking you straight to the collection’s highlights for an in-depth look. A knowledgeable guide introduces you to a broad spectrum of art, jewelry, ancient relics and architecture on this small-group tour, limited to 15 people.
Highlights
  • Avoid waiting in the long lines at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's entrance
  • Your guide leads you through the highlights of the museum’s collections
  • Learn about artifacts that span over more than 6,000 years of human history
  • Choose between two tour lengths, depending on how long you’d like to be there
  • Enjoy the city views from the Met’s rooftop garden (October to May only)
What to Expect
Meet your Metropolitan Museum of Art tour guide in front of the Met. Use your skip-the-line admission ticket to avoid the heavy crowds waiting to get in. Your tour begins in the Ancient Egypt section of the museum. From here, you see the armor of King Henry VIII, the Antioch Chalice, and ancient Greek and Roman artifacts. Your guide describes the history and significance of each artifact in the collection as you go. Next, view masterpieces by European masters such as Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Auguste Rodin before heading up to the rooftop garden to take in sweeping views over Central Park. If you’ve chosen the longer tour time, continue through areas of Dutch, Italian, and Spanish paintings by artists such as Rembrandt and El Greco. When your tour ends, you can stay and explore the Met on your own, or continue on your New York City adventure.

I really don’t think an 8 year old would enjoy this tour. It is targeted to adults.

We took the three hour tour. It was well worth the money. We got insights and information we would have never have found on our own.
