- amjfff0 contributionsWorth it!Great tour guide and views of the city! It was fun to see the sites at night in an easy to access way. It was a good amount of time to get an overview of the city and some history…not too drawn out.Written 22 August 2024
- A1430UWmaureenc0 contributionsPhantasticPerfect way to digest your dinner! Tour guide was funny and extremely knowledgeable. He coated an impressive depth of historical expertise and understanding with a sheen of funny pop cultural references. Weather was beautiful and the city looked perfect at night -- a great way to safely see the city of Philly while beating the heat -- highly recommend!!Written 18 July 2024

- 875piperv0 contributionsGood way to familiarize yourself with PhillyThis was a nice way to start our trip & familiarize ourselves with the area. Because our driver was fast at times, our tour guide had to rush through some information, and we weren’t always sure which buildings she was talking about. There is only one stop on this tour, the Ricky Steps. If you want a tour where you can get off of the bus and photograph/explore other venues, do a hop on/ hop off during the day.Written 22 June 2024
- hobyd10 contributionsGreat Evening in PhillyGreat tour guide who was so enthusiastic and gave tip and history the whole 90 minutes. Awesome views from the top of the double decker bus.Written 10 June 2024
- Ninette12340 contributionsVery unfortunate tour…🤷🏼♀️I gave this two stars because we did get to see some nice sites throughout the city, and we were safely returned where we started… But…from the very beginning of the tour, I felt like our guide was not really thrilled about having to do the tour….as though it was just a waste of his evening. There were only 18 of us; we didn’t even fill 1/4 of the bus. We, the passengers, were all upstairs in the back and the guide was in front of us w a microphone, facing forward…and we COULD NOT HEAR HIM!!! Several of us told him, repeatedly, that we couldn’t hear him… The first time he went downstairs and adjusted something. The second time he said “I’ll talk louder”. The third time and several times after…he simply ignored us. To the point where no one was paying attention. The person across the aisle from me FELL ASLEEP!!! I’ve been on tours like these all around the country and usually they are so enjoyable and informative! This was so very disappointing! Based on others’ reviews, I think we just got a “bad tour”🤷🏼♀️. Oh well…Written 9 June 2024
- 258ellenw0 contributionsFantastic Tour! This tour was one of the best we have been on. Our tour guide was amazing! He was so knowledgeable and kind. I wish all tour guides spoke is clearly and new as much about their city as he does.Written 21 April 2024

The information she provided on the history and architecture of Philadelphia was great. I had visited Philadelphia many time previously, and I still learned a lot of new information I hadn't ever heard. Money well spent, and highly recommend.Written 27 October 2023

- irenekU2857ME0 contributionsCool NightimeGreat narration. Great driving. Cool breeze. Beautiful night sights. It just doesn’t get any better. I was especially appreciative, as an Irish American and Irish speaker, that our tour guide pointed out the memorial to The Great Hunger and understood it was a genocide, and not a famine. It was culturally accurate and it felt really great to know it’s being correctly explained to the visitors to Philadelphia. Go raibh maith agat, IreneWritten 10 September 2023

First the positive..fyi we booked this tour bus company ..but they apparently have been merged with the other hop on/hop off red bus tour company (or it’s the same company? Not sure) but you can use any of the buses with the same ticket. Bus tour was fine for transportation purposes.. timing was good.. every 15-20 mins never had an issue getting on.. and it was a very busy Saturday in July.
Now the bad part..The live tour guides were terrible.. rude personalities, very poor knowledge base .. so much incorrect information.. pointing out museums and buildings and being corrected by other guests.. just overall really bad! So don’t count on any real history or information being provided. One in particular said she wasn’t allowed to mention sports because it was too controversial.. but continued to give her personal opinions and views on politics and other things she should have definitely kept to herself. Also many safety issues as the guides on the top level of the bus not communicating with the driver about guests on the steps or trying to exit! Have been on many hop on/hop off tours in other cities and have never seen these issues. We did tell “management” at stop 1… but didn’t feel it was taken seriously.

Guides were very knowledgable - but once you hop off the bus, GOOD LUCK getting back on! The time tables on the map are a joke! I had to call the company several times to ask how long the wait would be at several stops, and the answer was always 15-30 minutes. 30 minutes past when they were supposed to be there, and we'd already been waiting 15 minutes? Better to treat it as a bus tour, stay on for the whole ride, and then get yourself around Philadelphia separately. Uber is pretty cheap too.

We took the Hop On Hop Off bus in Philadelphia on Thursday 7/19. The temperature was 93 degrees with 99 degree heat index. Our tour guide (Giovanny) was entertaining and informative. The 10 am tour lasted about an hour and was time (and money) well spent.

This was a terrible experience! Buses are supposed to run every 20 minutes, well don’t get in a hurry. We found a bus at 3:34 at one of the stops and we were told that was a show bus but there was one across the street that would be leaving in 6 minutes. We went there only to be told they had stopped for the day. They sent us down the street to another one only to find that they had at least 50 people waiting. We finally got on a bus at 4:00. Customer service was pretty bad, as well.

This tour was very disorganized. It was definitely not 20 min intervals between buses. The live tracking didn't work. Trying to call the given number also didn't work. When we finally were able to get on, we were told we had to get off a few steps later because this bus didn't go any further. Then we were directed to get on the "red bus" (meaning City Sightseeing Tours" and were told by the guide "that they were both the same thing."
That would have been helpful to know earlier.

I really liked Guide Mike, for his explanations about the culture, architecture and history of the city, without going into details such as politics and religion, as he highlights in his presentation.
The tour is very complete, covering the city's main tourist attractions, contextualizing the historical issue.
The top, despite the cold, is the best option for the tour, as regardless of which side you sit on, there is something to see. But I think the right side of the bus ends up being more beneficial.
One suggestion is to do the entire loop and only then start descending at the points. It's difficult to go to all the points in just one day - impossible, I would say - but with the tour it is possible to identify points of interest and the distances to cover them. The center of Philadelphia is easy to explore on foot, my second day was made easier by the tour the day before.

Pretty terrible. Top deck was full when we got on. Not much to see from the lower cab. Moved up when a few people got off. Of course, it started to rain. We boarded mid route with our online purchased tickets, but were told we had to get off at the Liberty Hall, and then ride the next bus. Of course, the next bus had no upper deck. The wait between busses was about 45 min, although we were told they departed every 20 min. Staff seemed clueless, except for the guide who was informative. You’d be better off, and spend less money if you buy a guide book and use Lyft to get around.

Purchased 4 tickets for this tour and was told we could hop on at any location and that the next bus would be there in 12 minutes. Waited for 30 minutes and no bus in sight. Called the information line to verify we were in the correct location and was told it would be an additional 15 minutes. Waited another 30 minutes and the bus never came. Now I’ve contacted this company 3 times to receive a refund and haven’t received a response at all.
I normally don’t complain or ever leave poor reviews but after paying $100+ for a service I never received AND no response, I definitely don’t recommend this company.

The tour itself was fine. The issue for us was in the actual customer service. We purchased tickets for an 11 am tour start time. We arrived shortly before 11 and were told the bus was full. I inquired about why this happened if we had a reservation and the gentleman at the podium said he did not know and didn’t why they over book the times. We were told we had to wait for the 11:30 tour. We then walked down to the other bus company on the street. We found these two company’’s worked together and that there were only 17 people on the bus we were told was full for 11 am.
We not only rushed to make our 11 am tour but we also lost 30 minutes of the tour time that we planned on. This was very disappointing.

Hello,
We are sorry for the inconvenience you experienced. We do our best to adhere to our schedule, but there are often deviations due to the nature of operating in a large city. This particular day, there was construction on Chestnut Street which interfered with our route and schedule. This may have caused some confusion with our staff and contributed to the issues you experienced. Again, our apologies for the delay, but I hope that you enjoyed the rest of your day on the tour.
Sincerely,
Kieran

There was a large student convention in town and they just were not prepared to handle the traffic. The buses were full and having to wait 30 minutes for the next one that at times was also full was quite annoying. More time waiting than touring. The one bus had a horrible tour guide who just rude. His name was Zane and he seemed annoyed at people getting on the bus. I don’t suggest.

Does this take you to the rocky steps ? Also is the starting point near the bus station ? .. do you have a long wait for the next one to come along or r they regular? Thank you
Written 29 August 2019
Yes, you can exit near the Rocky steps and statue. There are multiple starting points, not sure of proximity to bus station. We boarded first day at downtown Marriott and second day by Vietnam memorial. The wait was less than 10 minutes at each stop...travel days were Thursday and Friday.
