This was a great tour! Dawn was a very knowledgeable person & sang us a few bars from Mercer’s songs. I think doing this tour gives you info you wouldn’t know otherwise! Highly recommend!

Beautiful grounds
Apr 2021 • Family
The cemetery grounds are truly stunning . Our guide Chris was well informed. However, seeing that it was a plantation in its early stages , I find it hard to believe there were never any slaves buried on or near the grounds and if they are not there due to the number of confederates buried there ... were they moved off the grounds? I guess I just had some unanswered questions. All in all it was a beautiful day and an enjoyable tour ..

Fascinating tour

Chris was our tour guide and did a wonderful job. We found the experience very worthwhile. Our only concern was that the policy of mask wearing was not adhered to. In our group, only my husband and I with our our friends wore masks.

Worth the Walk
Apr 2021 • Couples
We like to visit cemeteries on vacation. They are usually well laid out and tell a lot about the area. The Bonaventure cemetery is beautifully situated in a short ride from downtown Savannah along the river. It has much historical significance since soldiers from both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars are buried there. It is still active. There is also a 20 acre section dedicated to the Jewish population of the area. Our tour guide, Dawn, was excellent. She was chock full of interesting facts about the people buried in the cemetery and clearly explained what we were seeing. Finally, Savannah native Johnny Mercer is buried in Bonaventure.
