Disappointing VIP Experience with Cajun Encounters: Not Worth the Extra Cost
We took a tour with Cajun Encounters on 14 July 2024, and while the overall experience was interesting, I must warn potential visitors about the VIP option. Advertised as a premium experience with smaller boats accessing more exclusive areas, it ultimately proved to be a complete rip-off. Despite the promise of a more intimate and adventurous journey, we ended up following the same routes as the larger boats, which offer more comfortable, covered seating. For two excruciating hours, we were exposed to the relentless sun, paying twice as much for what felt like a downgraded experience. Additionally, the tour felt excessively commercialized, with 14 boats navigating the swamp simultaneously. This over-saturation greatly diminished our chances of encountering wildlife naturally. Instead, we witnessed captains resorting to feeding animals to draw them closer, which detracts from the authenticity of the experience. In summary, while the tour itself is educational and provides a decent look at the swamp ecosystem, the VIP option fails to deliver on its promises and is not worth the extra cost. Save your money and opt for the regular tour.

      Informative fun trip
Was a fun trip. Our guide Emmett was great. Saw some alligators. And learned alot about the swamps. It was really fun riding on the boat and seeing everything that the swamps have to offer. Saw some beautiful birds as well.

      Great intro to New Orleans
This was a great tour to take to get to know about a couple of the districts in the city. The tour guide Butch was super knowledgable and very friendly. He told us about different bars/ venues we should check out and we visited the distillery briefly. This was a great way to start my time in New Orleans to find out about different options for things to do. It was also fascinating to hear about the cemetery and why people in New Orleans are buried this way.

      Excellent day of fun!
Our Captain, Will, was hilarious. We had a fabulous trip and learned a ton. Saw gators, turtles, raccoons, and a giant black grasshopper hung out with us. Beautiful and wonderful. Our bus driver, Bryan, was very professional and safe and entertaining. Trip from start to finish was awesome.

Great Plantation Tour From New Orleans
I knew I was definitely planning to book a plantation tour during our trip to New Orleans. After researching several tour operators I decided on Cajun Encounters and was very pleased with my choice. The booking process online was very simple. They had several pick up locations and one was just a few blocks from our hotel. Pick up was scheduled for between 9:30-10am. We arrived at our pick up spot at 9:15 and the driver Dwayne (D Thomas) was already there to great us, we turned out to be the first stop. The mini bus was clean and comfortable. It looked to seat about 29 (12 rows of 2 seats on each side of walking alley with a 5 across row in the rear), but there were only 9 people total on our tour, so we had plenty of space. The air conditioning was cold and powerful. The driver played a light pop radio station (seemed to be a mix of 80s-today, think Michael Jackson/Genesis to No Doubt/Taylor Swift), which was a good choice imo as the demographic of our group appeared to be 40s-60s. Of the 9 of us, 5 of us were doing the combo Oak Alley and Laura Plantation, while the other 4 were on the Oak Alley full day tour. The 5 of us on the combo tour were dropped at Laura first. The driver confirmed we could leave some belongings (water bottles) at our seats. He then went to Oak Alley to drop the others and came back to Laura to pick us up later and bring us to Oak Alley. At both stops he went to the ticket counter and arranged our entry. He informed us of when and where we would be picked back up. While there wasn’t a ton of highlights to see on the drive to the Plantation and back to New Orleans, he did come over the mini bus intercom to point out notable things like the Superdome, Lake Ponchartrain, etc. he was friendly, funny, and personable and willing to engage and answer questions, but he didn’t have some rehearsed schtick which I appreciated. The plantation tours were very enjoyable and I am glad I selected the combo, as all day at Oak Alley would have been too long. In my initial research I had considered renting a car and traveling to the plantations on my own, but I am glad I did the tour with transportation. I would happily recommend this tour operator and our driver (D Thomas) and wouldn’t hesitate booking another tour with them.

      Educational Swamp Tour
Steve was our bus driver and he kept us entertained with great stories and the local history for the entire ride out. Zander was our boat driver and guide for the swamp. Zander really knows his stuff. He showed us so many interesting things. And, he told us about the history of the locals, the native and invasive plants and the animals that live in the swamp. This was a great trip.

      Amazing experience, must do
Highlight of our trip to New Orleans. Booked online and bus picked up directly outside our hotel. Justina our driver was amazing and had a great sense of humour. She also gave us info of areas along the route. Captain Dave was brilliant and very knowledgeable. Within a few minutes of being on the boat we had alligators all around us. Highly recommended. 5* service from pick up to drop off

      Amazing side trip excursion!
This was a highlight for my crew! We were on our way back from a week at the beach in Destin and this was a perfect stop-over activity. Our guide was engaging, friendly and knowledgeable. The view of the swamp was so amazing and we didn’t have to wait 3 mins before we had 2 gator by the side of the boat! This tour is highly recommended!!

Fascinating insight into New Orleans history
Fabulous tour with Derek our tour guide who was both knowledgable and personable. We now understand the unique burial process and the divided history that has helped shaped what New Orleans is today.

I looked forward to my walking tour for Feb 7th and was sent a check-in notification
prior to the meet-up. I was a bit taken back when I arrived at the store front, that 1) I was the only participant, 2) The tour guide was not there. Scrambling to reach him by phone, ( to no avail ) the representative called her supervisor. Trying to interest me in an alternative tour, which I declined, they said they would send a refund. Never an apology for disrupting precious travel time. I resented having to call today and ask
"Where is the refund?" This company has some lessons to learn regarding customer service!

Instead of Black Friday Shopping, I decided to take my parents out to this walking tour. Robin gave us an amazing experience. She was very informative, and we learned a lot about the history of New Orleans. Moon Walk, French Market, Steam Boat, Omni Hotel, Church, etc. Nice weather, nice group of people, and awesome tour guide Robin! We didn't stay long in New Orleans for Part 2 - Garden Tour, but we will definitely come back for that.

My boyfriend and I did the French Quarter walking tour. Unfortunately we couldn’t go to the cemetery because it was closed. But Brent made up for it with all of his very interesting stories and wit (he was a wonderful guide and very knowledgeable). We loved it. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about the Quarter.

Our City walking tour was well worth it, especially considering that history was ( shamefully) lowish on the list of things we wanted to experience in New Orleans below food and music, but I’m so glad we did it!

Brent was a fabulous guide, very entertaining, enthusiast and knowledgable. He told the history with passion and it was a really fun and interesting tour! Highlights were definitely Jackson’s Square ( the story behind that place is amazing and it’s not on any website I’ve seen) and Marie Laveau’s tomb. Brent also gave great tips on where to dine out in the city and what dishes to try where.

I did the walking tour with Brent and it was spectacular! Incredibly thoughtful guide who knows how to captivate an audience... and mastered the class of story telling. And there’s a lot of them in New Orleans.
    Don’t overthink, just book it!

I had 4 days to spend in New Orleans and I took this tour. It was a broader tour and I knew that could get more of an overview of what I really wanted to see when I was in NOLA as time was limited. Little did I know how much I would actually be able to experience! Butch was my tour guide on a bus of about 29 people. Born in and raised in NOLA, the knowledge and passion he shared about his hometown as he drove us around town was excellent. I was beyond impressed with this tour. As a native of Chicago, I have taken tours around my town just to learn some of my city's history and have had some pretty rotten trips. That was not the case here. Butch was informative, humorous, and sincere. We went through the tourist spots, the Garden and Warehouse Districts, and parts of NOLA that was hit by and still recovering from Katrina. He shared some of his memories of growing up and living in this city and what all it has to offer outside of the French Quarter. I was truly disappointed when the tour was over and would have love to just sat and talked with him over a Hurricane! He was a very good story teller and in my almost 2 hour tour, I learned more about NOLA than I thought I would in that time frame. I already have plans to visit NOLA again and will most definitely take another of their tours - maybe the Swamp Tour or a Plantation tour, or maybe just this one again hoping that I will find myself on Butch's bus! I highly recommend! Thanks to Butch for making this a great experience!!
