- Quiltjanet0 contributionsKeith is a tour guide like no other.Keith is a tour guide like no other. I went on a music history tour with him back in March. Since that time, whenever I thought about my visit to New Orleans, my next thought has been Keith's tour was an absolute highlight. I have been fortunate to do a lot of travel and have taken many small group walking tours. This tour was one of the most memorable I have ever participated in. Keith brings alive the musical history of New Orleans in a way that feels like time travel.Written 2 June 2024
- KBGalveston0 contributionsFun tripFun and perfect for my husband and I. Lots of good info and back stories on NO fooderies. Keith was very knowledgeable on the food scene.Written 19 August 2021
- SueR8170 contributionsLoved every minute of this tourWe booked for the evening tour which was great given the heat during the day. Keith was a delightful and very knowledgeable leader who toured us through the French Quarter telling us stories of musicians and music styles. A bonus was Keith’s selection of music to play at key points as we walked. Very cool! We started and ended in Frenchman Street which was buzzing when we returned just after 8pm. We also picked up some info on gigs to check out while we are here. Thanks Keith and if we come back we’ll check out your food tour that you are looking at setting up.Written 26 September 2019
- BBoB590 contributionsCool StollMy son (21) and I (60) where due to take this tour with three other guys but they never showed up...hey ho. We had the coolest morning with Keith, a N’Awlins gentleman who gives the best introduction to blues, jazz and rock’n’roll, We covered ethnography, geograppghy and a little sociology to find out what makes New Orleans so cool. It was fabulous...both my son and I felt we could have walked around in Keith’s company all day. Thanks man, it was great.Written 25 June 2019

- Anthony W0 contributionsSecond timeSecond time around as good as the first. A year ago I did this tour with 18 others from New Zealand on a business tour. As a fellow music lover my wife was so jealous that I had been to New Orleans with out her, that I had to come back. This time with Nicky my wife. Keith is so knowledgeable regarding the history of the music scene in New Orleans,he takes you on a journey that simply takes you back in time. When Keith found out I had booked the same tour he kindly changed the tour with the permission of the others in the group. This time he included not only the foundation of the Jazz and blues scene but also he ipulled in the Rock n Roll era too. Thank you so much Abel tours for providing such an amazing experience, yet again. Credit to Keith for being Able to hold it together with the distractions on Bourbon street and also the fact we had 3 children on the tour under 5. Keep on heralding the story of music of New OrleansWritten 23 November 2018
- Paul G0 contributionsOnly N.O. music tour you can trustKeith is insanely knowledgeable and fun. He knows his stuff and you'll probably want to taker the tour a couple of times to retain everything. Highly highly recommended!Written 4 October 2018
- valliam130 contributionsVast Knowledge of NoLa MusicWe had a fantastic time with Keith. His knowledge of the area and the history of music is phenomenal. We learned so much and saw places we never would have seen without Keith because we didn’t know the history and culture surrounding blues and jazz music. Plus, Keith is very cultured himself. They were filming NCIS New Orleans while we were there and we found out that much of the food you see in the show is Keith’s! If you want to learn more about the sounds of NoLa the do Keith’s tour and skip the other tour options out there.Written 24 July 2018

- Michelle S0 contributionsExcellent Historical TourMy husband and I were a bit hesitant when we were the only two people on the tour. But we quickly realized this was to stand by legendary homes, bars, and studios without disrupting the normal flow of people. Also, we quickly became friends with Carlo, who is an excellent historian and story teller. We had a wonderful time and got great pictures!Written 21 March 2018

Keith is literally the man and has lived so much awesome music history that you EASILY get your money's worth. A fantastic way to better understand the city and music of New Orleans from someone who has known and interacted with the music biz for decades and is hilarious to boot. Cannot recommend highly enough...I love New Orleans music and have done some historical research yet was still finding out tons of nuggets I never knew about. Long live Keith \m/

Keith tells great, detailed stories about important and often overlooked musicians while walking you to some important and often overlooked places in the city. He doesn’t sugar coat the history, which I appreciated. My 70yo parents and I fully enjoyed ourselves and learned alot. A great way to spend the morning in NOLA.

We took several tours on our visit to New Orleans in September of 2021 and this one was hands down the best. Keith Abel has a great sense of humor and a deep knowledge of the rich music scene of New Orleans. We loved walking with him down the streets where it all happened as he painted vivid scenes of jazz greats all the while listening to some of the specific tunes. Can't recommend more!

We went to NOLA in March. We did not know about the epicenter crisis happening there until we arrived. We had previously booked a music and heritage tour, then when we had to leave to next day, tried to cancel it. We were able to cancel, but we’re still charged the full ticket price for cancelling. No other option, no sympathy for or understanding of the situation. We believe that was TOTALLY unfair and extremely poor business practice. This is 100% unacceptable and we DO NOT recommend this tour to ANYONE. It’s horrible what this tour Co did to us

Dear Paul, Have you and I ever talked? I have had no involvement with this booking. On March 16 you booked Electronically with TripAdvisor, on the 17th you cancelled it. I received a notification of booking 3/16 and a notification of cancellation 3/17. My total participation is reading 2 emails, after I had stopped tours due to COVID-19 on March 13, 2020. I find it horrible to call out my company when you and I had NO INTERACTION. Blessed be your family, stay well. Truly yours, Keith

If you want to entrench yourself and learn more about the origins of blues , jazz, and rock and roll, then you’ll love this unique style of storytelling through a walking tour with a guide who is full of interesting stories that will blow your mind. He, himself is a wealth of musical knowledge with his background in the industry. I highly recommend this to any music enthusiast such as I.

The depth of information about the early days of New Orleans musical heritage was amazing. We learned about a number of musicians that we had not heard about who made significant contributions, both locally and nationally and internationally. Pacing was great.
We were fortunate that our group was very small, so we were able to ask plenty of questions.

We learned fascinating details of ethnomusicology, in this case the evolution (and personalities) of "Jass" to Jazz to Rock'n'Roll and influence beyond. Keith's delivery was engaging, supported by sights and sounds of New Orleans and music. Excellent!

Keith is really just the best tour guide you could ask for. His energy in infections, not only within the tour but throughout the whole city. So many people on the street know and love him and you can feel his love for them and his community. He's so knowledgeable about the city's history especially in regards to music and has a seemingly endless amount of personal stories on the matter. I would recommend this tour for anyone visiting NOLA but especially music lovers. You can't go wrong!

I had a wonderful tour this morning with Keith and his encyclopedic knowledge of New Orleans’ superlative musical scene, both past and present. Not only that, he seemed to be personally acquainted with a sizeable percentage of the French Quarter’s current inhabitants, as we encountered them during our sojourn. I can’t guarantee you’ll experience the same perfect weather that we enjoyed today, but chilly rain or humid shine, you will spend two hours being educated, entertained and enriched.

I am traveling with a 12 year old and a small dog. Are we able to bring our pup on this tour? We carry him in a backpack, so he shouldn't be a bother. Thanks!

Do you know anything about trumpeter Tony Almerico and his upstairs Parisian Room on Royal Street? In the 50s, when I was a teen, I listened to WWL's live broadcast from there every Sunday Afternoon. It was a big influence on my life.

No I do not. If you ask Keith who does the washing tour, I’ll bet he knows.

It was two to three hours. Depends on your walking speed as well. The guide will go at your pace. We also stopped for about 15 minutes for a coffee. Have fun!

Hello,
We'd really like to book this very well rated tour un Sunday march 24th at 13:00.
But there's 5 of us, and the experience makes a huge dent in our budget.
So my question is simple: do you have group rates, or can you make a commercial gesture for 5 learned Franco-American music loving enthusiasts?
Thnaks in advance for your quick reponse

Does this tour include going in to Preservation Hall? Do you have a chance to listen to the music? Should we also visit Preservation Hall separately after the tour?
Written 10 February 2019
No it does not include going in to see a performance at Preservation Hall. You do go there but not go in
My tip is to get to Preservation Hall early in the evening as there is usually a line up but you can get pre purchase tickets to sit otherwise it is up the back standing

Can children (ages 12, 14, 16) come on the tour, and if so do they need a ticket?
Written 12 November 2018
There were no children on our tour but I am sure they would be fine. You will probably be charged for each. If you contact the tour company they are very helpful answering questions
