- Jet237179304340 contributionsWhitney Planation and Airboat Swamp TourA fantastic trip with Dionne who demonstrated great knowledge of the history and sights of New Orleans. The Whitney Plantation audio tour provided respectful and informative insight into the historical slave trade around the area. Our airboat swamp tour was educative and adrenaline packed as we got to see large parts of the bayou and many alligators.Written 9 November 2024

- Y1929ZMdeborahc0 contributionsWhitney Plantation, a must-seeThe Whitney Plantation describes in detail and preserves the history of 1770s - 1800s slavery at a Plantation in Louisiana. For that reason, it is my favorite of all of the New Orleans Plantation tours. I toured the Plantation in 2019, when there was a REAL guide. He was very, very good, and the tour was so much better with an in-person guide. He had an impressive knowledge of the history, and he answered all questions that were asked. The Whitney grounds and buildings are very well-kept.Written 16 July 2024
- Elizabeth D0 contributionsTruly powerful tourThis was a very powerful tour. The guide gave great information along the way out to the Plantation area. Then the self guided tour of the Whitney Plantation was wonderfully done. Easy to follow and built a true picture of what life was like for the enslaved people at the Plantation. I highly recommend.Written 12 May 2024
- TheBuyBackPodcast0 contributionsThree greats! We had a fill in driver but he was kind and welcoming and never felt nervous with his driving. The Whitney itself I enjoyed very much, based on my research it focused more on slave life than the families of the households and that’s what I wanted to learn about. The pontoon boat tour was a blast. Wild ride.Written 26 April 2024
- Paul G0 contributionsVery informative and enjoyable dayOur combo Whitney Plantation Tour + airboat swamp tour (from N’awlins Luxury Tours) was a worthwhile day outside the city. Very well organized, and our guide/driver Dionne(sp?) was very informative and considerate. The only minor complaint is that there’s no communication regarding hotel pickup- no one texted on where pickup was exactly, or what/who to look for.Written 31 March 2024

She took us by many other plantations that you don't get to see on other tours. Highly recommend N'awlins Luxury Tours and especially Dionne!Written 26 May 2023

- Navigator184025911860 contributionsHad the best experience with this company. Stress free full day of activities. We had the best time on this tour. They were extremely accommodating and Ivery was super. We were transported to our tours with ease and had a stress free, effortless day due to the organization of this tour group. We did the Laura plantation and had an amazing tour guide Kyla who has a future in public speaking, so good! We then went to our swamp tour and had a blast. I would recommend doing your day tours with this group. Thank you again for a great day!Written 30 April 2023
- chelleu20160 contributionsPainful truths hereWe toured the Whitney plantation.. Our van did drop offs at two other plantations in the area as well. Good value as the ride out there was over an hour and apparently a cab would cost you $250. They picked us up at 820am and got us back at 1pm. Van driver told tales on the way there but was quiet on way back. You get your headset and find your own way around. It would have been better if the weather had been nicer. You cannot go in any buildings. (ok you can step into one or two) but it is an outdoor tour so dress for the weather. You will end with a museum and gift shop tour. You will see many memorials and MANY slave names and some very sad statues. Its a very sad place so be ready for emotions.Written 21 March 2023
- jamieoakland0 contributionsGreat Tours!Great tour overall! Nice, clean tour bus, and we stayed fairly on time throughout the day. Were picked up from our hotel near Bourbon Street around 8:15 AM and dropped off around 4:30/5. Would definitely recommend the Whitney Plantation tour (self-guided with earphones and prerecorded commentary) and the airboat swamp tour (gators!). I do wish the communication was better - we loved the hotel pick-up and drop-off but didn't really receive any sort of confirmation or info on that process beforehand. Left kind of wondering but ended up working out.Written 19 January 2023

Visited the Whitney plantation. Our driver Dionne was great. On the drive out she entertained us and educated us the important surroundings we passed by. She was knowledgeable and funny - making jokes about my husband being a seahawks fan!
When we got there, she quickly got us checked in, then we were on our own.
The only improvement I would say is that I had to call the night before to try to figure out where they would pick us up as we were staying in an air bnb. It was not clear. But when you call, they were very quick to set it all up!
Good service!

We had a great excursion! Tour guide (Dionn) was very polite, a courteous driver, and was knowledgeable about the city with a good sense of humor. Pick up and drop off were timely. Of the 3 plantations we saw, Oak Alley seemed the nicest to us (but we didn’t get to tour the other two.). This is a nice half day trip to get you out of the hustle and bustle of NO, and as well to appreciate the history of the area.

This tour was informative and generally well done. It went into some more detail than other similarly themed tours. Things to know: the plantation takes over an hour to get to, which is why the overall tour is over 5 hours. No lunch is provided - you have to buy chips at the gift shop or wait to get back to the City. You can see the inside of some but not all buildings. While the driver gives some history on the way in, the plantation tour itself is a self-guided audio tour, with interpreters available for questions. You will likely spend over an hour outdoors, so dress appropriately.

Although the driver was really nice and professional, the journey at the plantation was way too rushed. We had a tour upon arrival at 10am which lasted probably 30 mins or so. I then went to grab a bite to eat at the cafe. (Prior reviews said they stopped somewhere on the drive there which we did not so I hasn’t yet eaten). By the time that wrapped up I had to be back at the bus in 30 mins (by 11:30a). As I listened to what a rep was sharing on plantation history for just a few minutes (sadly) I made my way over to the sugarcane theater to watch a few minutes of the movie I had heard about. Then I had to leave. I didn’t even have enough time to stroll through the plantation and see all of what I had wanted to see. Therefore I was really disappointed.

Hello juliewJ2260YQ, I’m sorry to hear that, but duration time spent at Oak Alley Plantation is approximately 2 1/2 hours and the little cafe we stop at which is not on our itinerary and only stop if the driver arrive early before the plantation open. The cafe been close since the COVID-19 pandemic. Please give us a call so we can resolve this matter. Thanks!

The tour was very organized. We got a call the previous evening to let us know the pick up time. Our guide, Dionne, called us to let us know about she was on the way a few minutes before pick up. She was a nice guide, informing us about the sights on the way there. She also dropped us off at a spot different from the pick up location, which was very nice.
One suggestion to the organizers - We would have liked about 15 -30 min longer at Oak alley plantation. We get dropped off last there and picked up first, so we have slightly lesser time than the others. An additional 15-30 min would be lovely!

Let's be honest, N'awlins Luxury provided the transportation. Then dropped us off at the plantation. Then picked us up and returned us. So really, this review is only about that. Pick up time was as stated and efficient. Only six of us total on the shuttle. Two passengers got off at Oak Alley, and the rest of us headed to Laura.
Originally, we had booked a tour of the Whitney Plantation, using the "Real Time availability" booking on N'awlins Luxury's website. Day before our tour, we received a phone call that Whitney was to be closed the day of our visit. This was disappointing, because surely Whitney didn't call them the day before. Remember, we had use the real time availability feature, and so this shouldn't have come as a surprise to them, booking five days out. Dropped off at the Laura almost 40 minutes before the tour started. There is a museum to help fill the time but...
The transportation there and back was fine. Might have, in hindsight, rented a car and done two plantation visits (to a Creole one and an American one) to compare and contrast. Separate review for the Laura.

We understand your frustration, because we were very disappointed with Whitney for notifying us less than 24 hours before the tour time that they would be closed. Thanks for your review.

Took the tour to Laura Plantation. Picked us at our hotel on time. Nicely narrated drive out to the plantation, with background on the others nearby. A nice stress free way to get out of New Orleans and out to the plantations. They service all of them.

Before traveling to New Orleans the Whitney Plantation tour was a “must see”. I must say ...I was not disappointed at all!! We were picked up from our hotel as expected - on time and our driver was very friendly and informative . She was very patient and shared a lot of information about the city and the state on the drive to the plantation .
Once at Whitney we had time to look in the gift shop and exhibit prior to our tour. The exhibition was very informative and easy to read for all levels .
We were greeted by Ali, our tour guide which started on time at 10. Ali is truly a walking encyclopedia!!! He has a deep knowledge of the history of the plantation and of New Orleans in general. Ali kept you interested and welcomed all questions. At the end he was so helpful in sharing with us what the different books in the gift shop were about. He is truly a gem !
After Whitney , our driver showed us other interesting homes along the way and shared many tales and stories . All of this intrigued you and left you with a great appreciation of the history of the region!

If you're looking to visit a plantation, Whitney is a must. Although less glamorous than Laura and Oak Alley, The Whitney Plantation is a living memorial to the millions of men, women, and children sold or born into slavery in America. Their mission to preserve the stories of slaves. This is not an easy tour. It will challenge what you thought you knew about slavery and the long reaching effects that the treatment of these people has had on their descendants.
Thank you N'awlins Luxury Tours for picking us up and bringing us to the Whitney. Our driver was wonderful - warm, welcoming, and funny! She gave us a great primer to the Plantation as well as some fun facts about the city of New Orleans along the way. I would definitely use this company again!
