Stop At: Sloth’s Territory, San Carlos, Provincia de Alajuela, La Fortuna, Costa Rica

One of the most beloved animals of our country is the famous sloth, captivating us with its tenderness and slow behavior. We cannot deny it, we all have envied their lives at some point.
La Fortuna is a unique site to watch sloths, our climate, food availability, protection and the absence of predators make this area, and the property you will visit, a small natural oasis.
You will have the option of enjoying this activity in the morning, at 8:00 a.m., in the afternoon, at 2:00 p.m. or have a night hike at 5:30 p.m. Two-toed sloths are nocturnal, and it is easier to see them active and in motion in the evenings.
We will pick you up at your hotel at your chosen schedule and start this exciting journey into the sloths' territory, which is within a small family-friendly eco-project just 5 minutes from La Fortuna. The project has a path of 1500 m. (A little less than a mile) suitable for adults, families, and children of all ages; we will make a tour of approximately 2 hours in the midst of plants, a river bordering the property and of course you can not miss the Guarumo trees (Cecropia obtusifolia), the favorite food of sloths in Costa Rica.
During the tour, we highlight the importance of its protection, as illegal trade has grown due to its increasing popularity. Because of this, Ecoterra Expeditions along with the Rodríguez family are maintaining this privileged area to protect the sloths in Costa Rica.
Our specialized guides are experts in finding them so we can guarantee your observation. It's important to remember that the sloth is a solitary animal and spends most of its time is sleeping and resting on the treetops. The two-toed sloth and three-toed sloth can be observed in the route; now and then, visitors may have the incredible experience of watching the mother with its offspring.
Our Sloth Observation Tour is an example in Costa Rica, as it guarantees the proper management of resources, respecting the space of the species and preserving its natural habitat. Our naturalist guide will supply high-quality optical gear to grant a 100 satisfying observation without any impact to the naturally smiling sloths.
At the end of this natural experience, we will drive you back to your hotel where you will understand why it is said you cannot come to Costa Rica without seeing a sloth.
