Carl runs Alaska Photo Treks at 907 350-0251. He designed a waterfalls trip for my son and I and was a wealth of information about Anchorage and photography settings. I just printed a 20x30 on metal of a shot by my son.

Then I set up a separate sunset trip with my daughter and it was equally fantastic. His knowledge and personality are, as stunning as the hot cocoa he provided at the end of a chilly night of shooting. You will be so happy with Carl as your guide.

This is an amazing tour company. We took 2 tours, the phone tour our first day and the sunset tour our last day. I highly recommend both. I am so glad I choose this for our first tour because we learned so many great tips about taking pictures on the phone. We also learned a lot of about the area. He took us to so many great spots and knew where to go for the best shots. I also liked that the itinerary was flexible. He knew just where to go for the sunset and even found moose for us. When I return to Anchorage (which I will this winter) I will most definitely be doing their Aurora tour.

We had such an excellent time. The tour operator was a wealth of knowledge and truly taught us a lot about getting the best photos, whether it was with a phone or with an actual camera. I would do this again or another typer of photography tour any day. We can't wait to come back to Alaska for another session.

Great teaching about use of light and shadow. Definitely worth the time but take bug spray along.
Different light at beginning and end of tour made a lot of excellent learning opportunities

So glad you enjoyed the tour. Changing light makes a difference. One of the exercises we did in my photo intro class in college was to photograph the same scene, same composition, multiple times of day. But don't worry about bug spray, we have plenty in the van! Thanks for the feedback.

I booked this tour last minute and was so glad I had a chance to do this before returning home. Carl and Benjamin gave us special attention regardless of where we were in our photography skills either with a DSLR or a smart phone. In addition to the great photo tips, it was wonderful to get "inside knowledge" from a local's perspective about all things Alaska. We lucked out the evening before summer solstice and was able to capture a spectacular midnight sun! An assortment of hot beverages and snacks was an unexpected bonus :)

Wow!!!! wish we would have done this at the beginning of our trip. When I fist booked this I thought it would just be for my sister who has a SLR, me all I had was my phone. Wow was I wrong. Carl helped me with picking great vantage points for awesome pictures, and tricks to get to make them amazing. He helped my sister out with her camera, giving her tips and helping her fin all the settings. Highly recommend this. Oh yeah we actually got to see a moose.

I had a brand new camera, that I was clueless as to how to apperate it. Carl was fantastic at teaching me. He is very gifted at teaching. We went to some beautiful spots, as he showed me how to shoot the best way possible. I ended up with some beautiful images and a whole new appreciation for photography. I highly recommend this tour.

This photographic class/tour is absolutely great because it encompassed the four essential elements that any great tour or class needs. First and foremost the actual technical photographic coaching is excellent, practical, but pitched right for the skill levels of participants. Local site knowledge, knowing where to go and at the best time to catch optimal lighting conditions, is essential for sunset photography. Excellent equipment and logistical support is also fundamental, especially in the middle of an Alaskan winter. Finally a friendly, helpful, and collegial teaching style makes for a great learning experience.

I wanted a tour that was a little different than the normal sight-seeing, and Carl was a fantastic guide. We visited places on this tour that I would not have found on my own, as well as a few well known places. I learned how to get more out of both my point and shoot camera as well as my IPhone camera. Carl was patient, knowledgeable about all the cameras on the tour, and I got some amazing pictures! Carl is a gifted photographer and he will teach you how to be a better one.
