Very nice aquarium and a nice experience on a rainy day on Malta!

But I wouldn’t go there again because at least half of the visitors don’t wear their face masks properly which I consider as very dangerous. I didn’t feel comfortable at all and I wouldn’t recommend going there!
We told the staff to tell the other visitors to wear the masks, but they pretended not seeing any visitors without masks! Very unprofessional behaviour! We told the staff at least 3 times :(. We didn’t feel safe! Safety should be priority in these times!!!

The setting is beautiful, the tanks seem well maintained but it seems to be aimed at children not adults. I loved the snorkelling in Malta and hoped to identify some of the fish, but the speicies were poorly explained, the lighting was so poor and as I did not have a phone to hook into some of the QR codes, learnt very little. The gift shop was full of toys and fridge magnets and I could not find one book on local fish which you would have thought would have been a basic for the National Aquarium. With a little more care, this could be a much more rewarding experience and value for money.

We spent an enjoyable hour and a half here. The place was well laid out and despite the shocking weather wasn’t overly busy. Staff were helpful and friendly. We didn’t use the restaurant but it looked decent. Parking was free and the admission price reasonable.

No value for money - the aquarium is worth a visit and has a lot to look at but is way overpriced for what is on offer. When compared to other aquariums visited around the world I felt that Malta’s offering was lacking in scope and missing an opportunity to highlight relevant issues with respect to pollution and wildlife preservation. The educational value of the visit is poor. It only took 1 hour to wander through the site and a number of the tanks were poorly lighted or relatively empty of sea life.

A small aquarium, but still a good place to go especially if you have children, still learned a few things when we went in there, the tunnel was probably my favourite part.

A nice aquarium but I expected something a little bigger. If you have a voucher from your hotel, you can't use them if you are a pensioner. It passed a morning but not easy wearing a mask all the way round.

We decided to visit the National Aquarium by bus from our Mellieha hotel, since they were charging 20 Euros each way for a 5 km journey. We saved some money but wasted 60 minutes total wait time (we had to change buses on the way out.) The aquarium is in a spectacular location, overlooking a huge bay. Its external architecture is impressive, the form of a giant starfish. We had '3 Euros off' vouchers from our hotel, but were told that they apply only to the Adult ticket, not the Seniors ticket. The exhibits were OK, but many of the fish were plain silver, reflecting the Mediterranean location. There is one walk-through shark, big fish and ray tunnel, but those who have visited aquaria in the USA will view the whole aquarium experience as rather disappointing.

I felt the price to reflect a variety and depth of involvement, but sadly it did not fulfil either. There was more space taken up by the cafe/restaurant then the size and space for exhibits. A real disappointment, it felt as if someone just got up one day and decided to open an aquarium on a DIY basis and cut corners in consulting professions to design a venture for longevity. I don't normally do such negative reviews as it is people who's jobs depend... but this place takes the biscuit.

Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback about your visit. We regret that the Aquarium did not live up to your expectations. There are just over 50 tanks in the Malta National Aquarium, which feature over 250 different species, including fish, insects, and reptiles. Each tank is equipped with a tablet or QR code, providing visitors with detailed information about the species in each tank.
