Experience of a lifetime with fox glacier guiding
We were lucky to get a good weather during our planned fox glacier helihike activity. The helicopter ride was smooth and the views of the glacier were amazing from above. And then we landed on it, for exploring the glacier surface. The guides gave us all necessary equipments and instructions for the adventure. Then we walked along the uneven glacial surface and explored different ice structures and arches. We got ample photo opportunities, tasted the glacial water(take a bottle to fill up if possible, it tastes heavenly) directly from the little streams and also went inside a narrow arch made of ice. The activity is an absolute must do when in the glacier country in New Zealand South Island.

      Super friendly customer service
A big shout out for the great customer service we received from the Fox Glacier team! Despite us not being able to go on a trip due to our own time constraints, we were really pleased with the great customer service we received from Kevin and Emily. They were both incredibly helpful and friendly! We look forward to returning in the near future.

Once in a lifetime, unforgettable experience
An amazing full day out! We did the Fox it Up tour with Steve and Cam. Right from the beginning we felt safe and relaxed. Our guides were very safety focused but also challenged us and pushed out of our comfort zones. None of our group of 4 had any ice climbing experience but that wasn't an issue. We were taught little skills and how to handle our equipment along the way. Slowly our confidence grew and our guides never let us fail. The tour was truly outstanding. Highly recommended!

      E bike hire confusing communication
We hired e-bikes from Fox Glacier Guiding. We had to change the date due to weather and found the communication from the shop very confusing. No one answered the phone for a whole day. 2 of the 5 bikes weren't working well but we managed. E-biking is fun but it was expensive for the time we had them for

      Engaging and adventurous tour
Our e-bike and hike was a really great way to spend an afternoon in Fox Glacier. Our guide was very friendly and shared his passion for the glacier while we scrambled up to the glacier viewpoint. The view was really impressive, you get a sense of the scale of the place and just how much is changing over time. A great mix of adventure and learning about the area, would thoroughly recommend!

When would you otherwise ice climb on a glacier?
What an epic day of ice climbing. The flight up to the glacier and back is short but the day on the ice is long. Make sure you've got lots of layers. Incredible experience, our instructor was Flo and she was brilliant, very encouraging and really made me feel supported climbing on the walls. Would highly recommend!

      Definitely worth it
Really enjoyed the half day guided e-bike and hike excursion. Fox Glacier and the rainforest are beautiful and it was a treat to emerge ourselves in the environment for the afternoon. The e-bikes are modern and the guide was a delight and very knowledgeable. We felt looked after and safe the entire time.

      Incredible Extreme All Day Heli-Hike
10/10!!!! We did the Extreme Heli-Hike and it was the most incredible experience we have had. From the moment we checked in we were treated with such care. The weather wasn’t 100% so instead of the chance of cutting our day short we were given the option to do it the following day. Ryan and Jacob were our guides - and we could not commend them any higher and even Baxter was pivotal on our cancelled day ensuring we felt relaxed. This organisation was outstanding from start to finish - the day was tailored to us and our wishes. We did it all - thankyou so much. Well worth every $$!

      A cool climb!
The heli ice climb is well worth the extra $100 with a full day on the glacier and the extra sense of adventure. We had no previous experience. Stretch made it a very personable, enjoyable and fun day out 💙

My wife and i did the Fox Glacier Heli Hike in mid March 2020, it was a simply stunning experience and i would highly recommend it. The whole trip was really well organised and we had about 2-2.5hrs up on the glacier. We were very fortunate with the weather as it was a stunning day. Our guide, Matt, made the whole trip even more special, we ventured all over the glacier looking for all sorts of cool features and venturing into loads of Moulins.

So thrilled with our decision to do the helihike on Fox glacier- The company are very professional, safety conscious but also have a flexible attitude to accomodate the group they are guiding- ie to do some exploring on the ice, cut some ice steps and then encourage and guide us all through. Matt had a great sense of humour and shared fun facts about the glacier. A hidden gem that many kiwis often miss- many thanks Fox Glacier Guiding a great memory!

We had the opportunity/luck to participate in the heli hike at Fox Glacier.

The company held briefings/provided equipment in the shop in town followed with a short bus ride to the heliport.

The helicopter ride was short and 6 participants are squeezed into the helicopter.

upon landing on the glacier, we were given hiking poles and crampons.

then the walk started with a guide leading the group.

The views on a clear day are amazing to say the least.

Highly recommended for people of all ages.
See the glaciers before they are gone!

We had a great day for our heli-hike. There were only 3 of us on the tour (this is quite uncommon), so we had the glacier to ourselves. Prior to Covid there were hundreds of tourists per day on the glacier, all the more reason to travel to NZ and to do this amazing tour! Our guide, Pasan, was really easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. We were lucky with the weather and got the full 3 hours of hiking time. Quickly changing weather conditions can effect the trip to maintain the safety of everyone but the refund policy is very reasonable. The heli hike is great bang for your buck, we got to see everything by helicopter going to and from the airport and landed on the glacier. The tour consisted of hiking around on the glacier, going into crevices, holes and navigating through tunnels. There were plenty of photo opportunities along the way. It was an amazing day and although pricey, it is worth every dollar. The way I see it, hiking on a glacier is an experience that I will probably only do a few times, so I wanted to make the most of it.

    This was so worth it!

It’s a good idea to book your heli hike early in your visit to Fox Glacier, as they often need to cancel trips when the cloud roll in, which means the helicopters can’t fly. But they are happy to let you rebook if there are spaces, so making an early booking gives you some wiggle room.

We ended up rebooking 3 times (which was fine as there are lots of good walks around Fox/Franz Josef), but we’re so glad we stuck with it as this was really special.
We got the full 3 hours on the ice, walking up the glacier and through ice caves. Nothing else like it on Earth - just spectacular.

The guides were very helpful and patient with everyone in the group, and they clearly just enjoyed being up there too.

Do it if you can. Sadly, the glaciers won’t be around forever.

Everything happens for a reason, due to poor weather and a cancellation earlier in the day with another company, we had to rebook this experience with Fox Glacier Guiding. NO REGRETS, we had an awesome guide - Jin, who was both informative and funny, turns out he was also a great photographer. The staff involved in the safety drill and bus/helicopter trip where all just as great, both personable and professional. We would highly recommend this company for a 5 star experience.

Overall it was good as the weather was great and the lady guide from Argentina was friendly and informative. Although she just joined a few months ago, she loved her job and I can feel her passion. She made sure everyone was safe and on track and also kept us informed about the history and formation of the glacier.

However, one thing I don't feel comfortable about was a seemingly experienced male guide (don't think he was local as his accent was quite different) who presented the helicopter safety briefing using the TV in the small room before we departed to the helicopter base. He told the audience he could only speak English, and then he looked at the three Asian girls (including me and my friends) with a smirk on his face, telling us that please translate among ourselves.

If he could say that in a more polite attitude we wouldn't have felt uncomfortable. He didn't even find out if we could understand English and he decided to give us that attitude.

thank you Doremi321 for your review. We are very pleased to read that you had a great time exploring the glacier and learning about this special environment with us. However we are disappointed to read about your negative experience at our base before your trip departure, we are sorry that this happened and that it made you feel uncomfortable, we are looking into this incident further to ensure that this does not happen again. Best day of our ten day NZ Trip!. Fiona and Baxter were amazing from the initial briefing led by Baxter to the constant criss crossing the glacier by both of them to find the most interesting parts of the ever changing glacier. The information from a local guide was great and I’ve never seen a group of adults so excited after sheepi (?) discovered a new moulin that we could climb in and out of. Even though we were pushed for time Fiona raced up to ensure those who wanted had the opportunity to get up and climb in and out of the moulin (water tunnel). To then see all the guides converge to build steps so the next group could also see it was heart warming. These people just love sharing this place with visitors. From the kiwi mum with two boys (julie, Tom and Charlie ).

Highly recommended trip. Everything extremely well organised, with superb short helicopter flight up to the glacier. A group of keas greeted us on the glacier which was cool. We then fitted crampons and then Jenna took us exploring. We found us some great spots to look at including a cave we could go in. This isn't difficult, so everyone of reasonable fitness will cope. Fantastic scenery and one of those bucket list experiences. Recommend staying for at least 2 (ideally 3) nights in Fox to ensure you don't miss as they do have to cancel 30% of the trips due to weather. We had a magical morning with brilliant clear conditions. Good restaurants in town and lots of walks to do, so staying 5 days would be easy to do. Just do it now before the international tourists return, which hopefully will be soon as this whole town is struggling big time with very low tourist numbers.

Great trip on the ice with an entertaining professional guide from Nepal (Pictured )the trip had lots to offer in the way of ice formations , caves , and spectacular interesting scenery tour is slow paced plenty of time for photos etc . It was cold up there and because of the pace due to uneven terrain you don't warm up the way you would on a normal walk on a formed track, an extra couple of layers over you usual outfit would be advised in my opinion . If you are an agile thrill seeker the longer advanced hike might be a good idea . Total of four of us plus guide on the glacier for the whole time apart from when next group arrived as we were leaving
COME ON kiwis beet the crowds come now why the internationals are not here you
are mad if you put it off . all staff very friendly and knowledgeable .
also a great fun chopper ride thrown in
