About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Z7041RJlesliel0 contributionsAbsolutely amazing!!We were a group of 8 college friends in our seventies and Michael made it exactly how we needed it to be for our group. Just the right amount of walking and sightseeing. We even included lunch. Michael is extremely knowledgeable! I learned more about San Antonio with Michael than I ever knew after living here for over 20 years. I would highly recommend booking a tour with him! In fact after telling my husband about the tour, he wants me to schedule a tour for the two of us!!Written 8 October 2024
- B1419JDkarenh0 contributionsA Tour Not to be MissedThis was an amazing tour! Michael is a guide who is not only personable, but very knowledgeable. He takes the time to get to know each tour participant and makes the tour catered to his or her interests. We saw so much on this half day tour! All the missions, the Japanese Gardens, the King William District, and the Mercado where Michael assisted us in finding new sandals for our daughter who experienced a sandal malfunction while on the tour! We ended up at the Pearl. This is an area of shops and restaurants, centered around the Hotel Emma. It has a very interesting history which Michael will tell you all about. Make sure he tells you the story about the Three Emmas and then be sure to enjoy the drink by the same name. We opted to stay at the Pearl for dinner and Uber back to our hotel. Michael gave us excellent suggestions of where to eat and other things for us to see during our stay in San Antonio. This is the best tour of San Antonio. Michael made our day special and informative. A tour we will never forget!Written 20 September 2024
- 115tashs0 contributionsMust-Do Tour While in San Antonio! What an absolutely wonderful tour! My husband and I were lucky enough to spend a morning with Michael. He was knowledgeable, friendly, engaging and tailored the tour to our interests. We really packed a lot into our time visiting 4 missions, the Pearl/King William’s historic districts,(including the Pearl Brewery, Market Square, the Alamo, Japanese Tea Gardens, and more. We even got a little bird watching and native plant identification in! This is a totally different, immersive experience than you would have exploring on your own as we got to see, hear, and even taste the culture and history of the area. Truly a unique perspective and worth every cent! One of the best tours we have been on, highly recommend it!Written 8 September 2024
- BumpyTakeoff0 contributionsMissions and more!Michael is amazing. So knowledgeable and passionate about the places and their history. So grateful to have spent the afternoon with him. 5 stars!Written 30 August 2024
- 492worldexplorer0 contributionsA tour full of fun and knowledgeMichael Robinson, San Antonio ProTours. My wife and I recently toured the San Antonio Missions with Michael. It was a delightful visit. Michael did not simply narrate the prevailing stories about the missions; rather, he made us feel as if we were within real working missions, back in the 1700s and 1800s. He combined his knowledge of history plus his ability to bring that history to life, to create an almost real experience. He also explained how external events taking place in the United States, Mexico, and Spain influenced what was happening in the missions at different times. We have engaged many private guides while traveling. Michael ranks as one of the best, if not the best. Call him when you are in San Antonio. You will not be disappointed.Written 26 August 2024
- D248XYlaurab0 contributionsFantastic tourIn three words: energetic, knowledgeable, and fun. I'm actually not much of a social person, but Michael was able to engage with me in such a good way, and quickly too, that I am immensely impressed. His knowledge of the subject matter was very complete and encompassing. And his ability to adapt ( the conversation, the tour, and alternating between my wife and I) was a good benchmark for how we will judge tours in the future. The man is a master of engagement, able to handle a wide variety of conversational topics, and keep you otherwise entertained. He could teach a Masterclass to other guides to greatly improve the industry overall. Definitely a recommendation to take this Missions Tour, and we will be taking other future tours as we visit San Antonio again as well.Written 18 August 2024
- aprilrW2040KO0 contributionsBest tour guide ever!Michael’s tour was phenomenal. Without his knowledge of the missions I wouldn’t have understood the Alamo - or have seen some amazing sights! Just book the tour-great guy, funny and knowledgeable!Written 10 August 2024
- Jenders0 contributionsThe best way to see San AntonioThe best tour of San Antonio. You will not be disappointed. We did a 3 hour tour and my only complaint I wish it was longer. The hotel Emma promised we would enjoy it and the tour was above and beyond. Michael is a fantastic guide and very personable my 14 year old said that didn’t even feel like a tour. If you are going to San Antonio this is a must!Written 19 July 2024
- erichB8451NO0 contributionsSan Antonio MissionsWe enjoyed learning about San Antonio, its history and its people and its place In Texas and the world. The missions are beautiful. Do not miss them! Michael’s suggestions for dining have been spot on as well. We highly recommend!Written 19 June 2024
- technicks0 contributionsFantastic from start to finishAbsolutely fenomenal. Literally white glove service from start to finish. Great conversation, and we learned a lot. Give Michael a call and he can also provide concierge services as well, which were right on. My wife had the best time for our one year wedding anniversary with all the secret planning we did ahead of time. Will be back in a couple years once the Alamo restoration is complete. Highly recommended!Written 18 June 2024
- 312suzanneb0 contributionsWhat an absolutely amazing day!My husband and I have booked many tours, some US, most international and this was one of the best ever. So personal, so historically thorough and immersive. We learned, we laughed, we got teary eyed and we came away loving San Antonio and ready to bring others with us next time. Thank You Michael!Written 11 June 2024
- robertbC8382SK0 contributionsSan Antonio yesterday, today and tomorrow. We're fairly well traveled, better than some and less than others. Anyways, my wife and I have enjoyed quite a few private tours while traveled. Michael provided one of the most interesting and insightful tours we've experienced. He provided the right mix of history and background of the Missions, immigrants, industries, and people who've helped shape the past and present of San Antonio and a nice glimpse of where she's going. Incredible tour, incredible town! Thanks Michael!Written 11 June 2024
- Lyndsey_D880 contributionsA+ Concierge ServiceWe just returned from our first, but hopefully not last, trip to San Antonio. I can’t adequately express how much fun my husband and I had with Michael during our few days together and how helpful he was with all aspects of our vacation. Everything, from our pickup at the airport to the missions tour, wine country tour, second half day tour and food tour was spot on. A perfect mixture of history, local flavor (coffee! Tacos! Gelato!) and fun. With the concierge service we also had the benefit of dinner recommendations and reservations. This took all of the guesswork out and allowed us to just sit back and enjoy. Michael has a wonderful ability to make others feel comfortable. He was very easy to talk to and adapted plans based on our interests as we went. I would highly recommend Protours, especially the concierge service, to anyone visiting the area.Written 20 May 2024
- patlB1887GF0 contributionsExplore 3 centuries in half a day while being entertained.Michael’s tour of the old missions, history of the build up of the San Antonio area and the redevelopment of the city covered 3 centuries of incredibly interesting stories. We were amazed at his amount of knowledge and the way he connected everything into an easily understood timeline that covered everything from the Moorish architecture of the Spanish churches to the great mansions in the city itself. If you want to be enthralled and entertained for a half day, and come away with detailed knowledge of how this city developed, you must book this tour.Written 15 May 2024
- TomH25260 contributionsFantastic tour and even better tour guideThe missions and more tour was fantastic. Our family of 4 (kids 10 & 12) enjoyed each different aspect of the tour from the historical mission visits, the beautiful mansions, the market and the new trendy retail and restaurant area. It must be difficult to give out-of-towners an understanding of the history of a city from the beginning to modern times, but Michael does it effortlessly, with plenty of humor, and delivers it all with a high quality, VIP feel. This is not the kind of tour where you wonder how much of the spiel is fictional—Michael has clearly done his homework and is extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommended.Written 20 April 2024

Michael is an exceptional tour professional who offers a unique combination of historical interpretation and humorous commentary. His tour outlined the past and the present of the area and made us want to learn more. Our group loved it and we can’t wait to come back for a visit and use him again!

First of all, if you read any (or all) of these reviews, you can feel the authentic sincerity within them. Michael is not only a truly amazing tour guide; his quick wit and sense of humor will have you in stitches! But most of all, and probably of single-handed most importance, Michael has a tangible love for what he does... and it shows! He is a wealth of historic knowledge regarding all things San Antonio. Our large group (24ppl) tour started at a local BBQ spot for lunch, then the incredibly historic San Antonio Missions. Afterwards, we moved on to libations at the Emma Hotel, and ended with dinner at a local Tex-Mex restaurant. Everyone enjoyed Michael's company so much, we invited him to karaoke with us later that night- he came and sang, too! If you're considering a guided tour, and I can't express this enough, Michael is your guy!

While on a “sistercation” in San Antonio, I mentioned to my son, AJ, that I was interested in taking my sister on a tour. Through a web search, he found San Antonio ProTours and found they offered private UNESCO Mission Tours. Michael with San Antonio ProTours was quick to respond to AJ and then to me. He displayed an appreciation of the experience we were looking for and put together a full itinerary, which he communicated to us prior and included the Missions we would explore. Micheal eagerly met us at the free Pearl parking area and then our wonderful adventure began. Our tour ran at our own pace for questions, photos, and visits to each mission church. Micheal provided a fantastic, fun and, intriguing commentary with an interesting insight into the the history of The San Antonio missions. He also provided info on other places to see in San Antonio and recommended restaurants that proved to be excellent. Michael and his tour are highly recommended.

The private tour with Michael was excellent! He worked with us ahead of time to personalize the stops in order to make the most of our single day in San Antonio: communications and meet-up were straightforward and timely. We learned a great deal of local history as his knowledge is superb: he took us to numerous mission sites as well as other points of interest including the Alamo. Michael contextualized everything we saw in a clear timeline, and he really brought the sites to life for us. He brought along bottled waters for us, and was also very respectful of our mobility needs, doing everything possible to accommodate the shortest possible walking route at each site. He even added in a quick lunch stop at a tasty taco stand. This was truly an outstanding experience with an outstanding guide: thank you!

Really glad the sequential timeline presentation of San Antonio helped take it all in. Great conversation along the way, and how about that taco stop! Little hot out, but good food and chats. All the best to you!

In all the guides trips we’ve taken globally, this was the most engaging and informative. Michael clearly knows his history of missions but also of the city as a whole; including industry and geography. His experience as a teacher and a Stand-up comedian shows through in educating his clients with the perfect amount of comedic relief.
We have visited the missions previously but Michael’s tour takes it to a new level. Engaging, interesting and enjoyable.

Michael gave a great tour of the mission, king William, Mercado and Pearl area. His knowledge on all was amazing, questions were answered and asked me question which led to more insightful answer!!!
I look forward to my next visit to San Antonio and other tours scheduled with Michael. His tour was one of the best I’ve had in over 45 years of travel and private tours! Thanks to you Michael

Phenomenal experience! We live right outside San Antonio and were amazed to learn so much about the history of this great city. There’s so much more to San Antonio than the Alamo and the Riverwalk. Michael is an outstanding guide - extremely knowledgeable, engaging, and energetic. I feel like I spent the afternoon with a close friend. We will definitely be coming back to San Antonio Pro Tours!

If you are thinking about doing a tour of the Missions in San Antonio, I highly recommend this tour. I would give it a 6 if I could. Micheal was very knowledgeable about the history of the missions themselves, but also of the area during the time the missions were active. My family and I had an amazing time. I would definitely book another tour with Micheal in a heartbeat.

We hired Michael for a private food / brewery tour for 15 friends from all over the US. From the first day I emailed him in June, to the day of our tour in October, he was fantastic. He's a local and knows all the best spots and he coordinated an awesome tour. He shared a lot of San Antonio history with us and we even made an impromptu stop at Mission Concepción so we could do a photo op and learn about the Spanish Missions of San Antonio. I would highly recommend Michael. This was an awesome way to explore San Antonio!
