      Alaska Whale Watching Boat Excursion
This excursion was excellent! We saw whales, sea otters, sea lions, seals, eagles, even a bear! It was more than I had imagined. The captain, Neil, was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend A Whale's Song Expedition to all my family and matter of fact we already have! Thank you Captain Neil for a great experience.

      Perfect day
We spent a wonderful afternoon with Neil and highly recommend booking with him. We saw a mother humpback and her baby, seals, otters, and tons of birds including puffins. Plus, the scenery around Sitka is amazing! It was my favorite day of our entire cruise. Thank you again Neil!

Wildlife viewing at its very best!
Simply superb! Neil is an amazing captain, friendly, personable, extremely knowledgeable about Alaska, wildlife and the environment. The catamaran is an ideal boat for wildlife viewing and photgraphy as it is stable and manoeuvrable. Neil is adept at putting the boat in the best place for wildlife encounters whilst obeying all the rules when near whales and other wildlife. We have had the experience of a lifetime, humpbacks bubblenetting, literally in front of the boat! Witnessing orcas chase and kill a porpoise, getting superb views of a raft of over 200 sea otters.

      Great tour
I normally do not write reviews, but I really enjoyed my tour. So comfortable and accommodating. We were given the choice on what we saw and how long we stayed at each spot. We watched one whale for close to an hour. I would recommend this tour to anyone.

Great Private Excursion...saw lots of whales!
We booked a last minute tour for my family of four with Neil while visiting the port of Sitka. The tour far exceeded our expectations. We saw whales, sea lions, sea otters, and bald eagles. Neil was knowledgeable and friendly. Upon returning to the cruise ship, we spoke with several people who did not see any whales while on their "cruise booked" excursion. I highly recommend using Neil if traveling to Sitka.

      Amazing experience and great Captain!
Neil made our trip to Sitka! His private charter was the highlight of our Alaskan trip. We arrived on a cruise. The cruise ship had a shuttle service to Crescent Harbor and Neil was waiting for us next to a sign with his company name. We saw eagles, puffins, whales, and harbor seals. Neil’s sense of humor and personality made our trip even better. He had hot cocoa, coffee, tea and snacks. He also gave explanations related to the animals and habitat. The three hours passed by so fast and it was magical seeing whales. My favorite part was St Lucia Island aka Bird Island. We passed by caves and bird nests, starfishes and many puffins! Puffins are my favorite bird and it was wonderful seeing them in the wild. We went in August and enjoyed it immensely. However, next time we will go in March to see the Bubble Net feeding, which is supposed to be amazing! By the way, the Catdaddy was the largest vessel in Crescent Harbor and we felt safe in it. It also has a bathroom.

      Amazing experience!
My son and I did a morning wildlife photography tour with Captain Neil. He went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of! We saw impressive wildlife and really enjoyed the boat experience. The Catdaddy is a great vessel! This experience was the highlight of our 4 days in Sitka!

      Lifetime memories
Capt Neil and his boat Catdaddy are both top notch. Capt. Neil is very knowledgeable the the boat is clean, comfortable and easily navigated to get the best sightings. This is a must do if you want a small group personal experience. We spent a lot a lot of money on various excursions and this was by far the best. You may see whales (of course), otters, seals, puffins and any other wildlife Neil can find and point out. You can be outside basically 360 for viewing or the inside cabin is warm and very comfortable. I believe the maximum he takes is 6 (we had 5) so this is a million times better than a huge group tour. He also delivered us literally right back to our cruise ship so we didn’t have to worry about catching the busses. Though every tour will be different bc the wildlife doesn’t take reservations lol-Neil seems to know how and where to find whatever happens to be hanging out at the time!

Day out in Sitka Bay with Captain Neil
This was my son’s last weekend in Sitka after being there for eight years, moving East to the Detroit area to be closers to his wife’s family. I’ve visited him multiple time, but never adventured out of the surrounding foot trails. As a farewell gift, I offered to go out on a whale watching trip with him. Having gone out on captain’s Neil boat once before and loving it, he made a last minute call to Whale Song Expeditions Captain Neil answered and accommodated us. Upon arrival he remembered my son from the last trip and made us feel at home. There were four people on the tour and plenty of room to spare. Capital Neil was super knowledgeable, pleasant and made sure we saw all the high points Sitka bay. I was able to see more wildlife during this tour than I ever expected. The only sad part was that the whales didn’t cooperate, hiding from the beautiful sunny day. They seem to like overcast sky. Capital Neil made every effort to find spots in the bay where the whales are often seen and even contacted others in the bay, but to no avail. At the end of the tour he was apologetic for being in that 1% of his tours where no whales came out to greet us. Capital Neil thank you for the effort. I had a great time during the tour and if I ever visit Sitka again I will certainly go out on your boat again, specially now knowing that you are from Point Pleasant, NJ. My home state.

      3 Hour Tour
Had a wonderful day wildlife watching with Neil! We had a party of 6 and everyone had such a good time. We were able to see everything we went out to see. Neil was so knowledgeable about the area, the animals and history of the area. Being on a smaller boat made the trip so much better. I have been on one of those large whale watching tours before. This experience was so much more personal. Highly recommend!

      Super wildlife tour
We had a fantastic wildlife tour with A Whale's Song. We had been on an expedition cruise just prior to this tour and saw nearly as much in the several hours with Neil as we'd seen in more than a week on the inland passage. Among the many birds we saw and learned about from Neil were Puffins which was a thrill. Whales were elusive during much of our time but Neil was persistent and near what would have been the end of our trip we returned to an area we'd been to earlier. We were scanning for blows when a whale surfaced near the boat. We spent nearly another hour in the area watching the whale dive and surface. A great experience!

Booked this tour because it mentioned birding on the website and I was not disappointed. We went out to the NWR and saw a ton of puffins, cormorants, murres, murrelets, rhinoceros auklets, eagles, gulls (various), and more. Also managed to see a few whales, lots of otters, sea lions, and other marine life. But the best part was Captain Neil and his knowledge. He had tons of info - both local and about the wildlife. His boat (Catdaddy) was super comfortable. The snacks and coffee were great and it was an all-around amazing experience, and when we were done we got dropped off right at the cruise ship! I’d recommend this as a must-do - 10/10 in every category!

Ok, I admit, this company was not my first choice. EVERYONE said go with Gallant. My parents went with Gallant a few years ago. Gallant was full. This is not a knock against Gallant - this is a review to let you know that there are other options to consider. It was bad weather when we arrived in Sitka. Most other tours were cancelled. Neil (captain) was waiting for us on the pier- super easy to spot. He brought his bigger boat which could handle the weather. At first I was bummed bc I wanted the smaller boat to go into the caves. About 3 minutes into the trip I was so very thankful to be in the Catdaddy! The boat was super nice - bathroom and coffee/snacks. There were great outside areas for viewing wildlife. The company also provided awesome binoculars- best I’ve ever used. I really appreciated Neil’s concern for our safety. He made us come inside when it got too rough, but also put us into some great areas where we could go outside and see the wildlife. He also (after asking us if it was ok) altered our tour to go see whales (we signed up to see birds mainly-but honestly wanted to see any wildlife). After seeing puffins and a bunch of other birds we set out to see whales. Neil and his amazing wildlife expert found some and we got to see one breach. Sooo cool! We were delighted to hear stories and see photos of whales bubble feeding. Let’s face it - it was a rotten day weather-wise, but Neil and the Nature Expert (cannot remember her name) made our trip worth every penny. Coolest part was that they gave us a sheet with all the wildlife we saw and a map of where we saw it and the route we took. If you want to spend several hours with a great captain and crew - I highly recommend A Whales Song. Not sure why they do not turn up on more feeds - I’ll try to correct that. Also - Neil was great at contacting me and suggesting an earlier cruise time due to weather. I really appreciated this. If we had waited longer, the weather would have not allowed us to go. If you want a highly personalized adventure - this company is for you!

Wow Marnie what a great review. I'm sorry it took me so long to respond as I didn't see the TA In my inbox (it musta been buried in my e-mail). Lione was the naturalist that went aboard with us. You guys were so much fun. Thanks for the awesome pics as well!

Went out with Captain Neil & Leon & had such an amazing time !! The scenery was gorgeous & the boat you ride on is big and comfortable. Neil & Leon are a WEALTH of knowledge & teach you so much about wildlife, Sitka, & the surrounding area. I loved hearing all the random facts about the wildlife we saw. St. Lazaria was magical & it’s an island unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Thank you so much to Neil & Leon for going over & beyond to make sure we had an awesome time & for being such kind individuals. Would 100% recommend anyone for this tour 👍🏻.
