The hike up Bunsen Peak is an unforgettable one! From the open flats of the trailhead, we will start up through intermittent forest and meadow, with excellent opportunity to view wildlife, birds, and seasonal wildflowers. As we continue to grind uphill, the views of the Gallatin Range and the surrounding valleys grow more and more spectacular. The final section of the 1,300ft vertical gain brings us through scree and talus slopes, reminding us of Bunsen's origin as a volcanic remnant. As we reach the summit, we will come upon an old fire lookout, which provides an excellent porch for lunch. After taking in the panoramic views and re-energizing, we have the option of coming back down the same trail we came up, making for a 4 mile day, or adding another 3 miles by going down the backside of the mountain. The longer option is much less trafficked and switchbacks down the east side, around the foothills of the peak, and back to the trailhead.

      Incredible Hike in Lamar Valley!
Recently returned from an amazing hike with Wildland Trekking in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone! Beautiful hike through a pretty remote area of the park. Our guide, Sara, was terrific -- extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area, which made the trip even more enjoyable! I highly recommend this hike and look forward to going back again!

      WIldland’s Greater Yellowstone trip is a must-do
My Wildland Trekking Greater Yellowstone trip was terrific! The guides were marvelous. They made sure every aspect of our trip went smoothly. They made sure we got to the more popular venues ahead of the crowds and gave us personal and very relatable facts about each feature in right-sized bites. Each day they led us on hikes that were just the right length, pace, and level of interest. They guided us to some less well-known but oh-so-beautiful features - waterfalls, cascades, mountain views, natural areas. They made sure our hotel checkin, restaurant, and checkout experiences were stress free. I appreciate that Wildland Trekking trips are always with small groups, so that each trip feels personal and doesn’t overwhelm the destination. And the adventure consultants made sure the booking and pre-trip preparation was worry-free. I will definitely go on other Wildland trips in the future.

      Great time - highly recommend
I went on the Yellowstone base camp tour. Our guides were caring, funny, knowledgeable and they served up great meals. All and all amazing. If the weather turned bad they were able to make alternative plans that worked great. They truly went out of their way to make us feel safe and comfortable. They knew a lot about the park so we learned a lot along the way. The process of signing up for the trip and communication went very smoothly as well. I highly recommend this tour company and would certainly consider another trip with them in the future.

      Best guides/Hike Ever
Kieron and Max were fabulous guides. They encouraged us to do our best and to make it "our hike". Taught us about our Llamas and how to treat/care for them. Food was delicious. We hit Small fast storm of lightning, thunder and hail on first day and they knew exactly what and when to seek shelter. I felt very safe with Kieron and Max as our guides.

A Enjoyable Day Hike in Lamar
The hike was great. We saw many animals including antelope and a badger. The healthy picnic on the banks of the Lamar river was especially nice. Our wildland trekking guide, Amber, was professional, knowledgeable and engaging. Highly recommended.

      Yellowstone
Just the right amount of hiking. The guide was super friendly and accommodating as well as knowledgeable. I also appreciated the small group size-only 6 of us. A bit pricey but all the food is covered.

Excellent sites, hikes, food, and all round experience
If you are on the fence about taking the Best of Yellowstone Lodge based tour, quit procrastinating and sign up. This was an absolute marvel of a trip. All of the details were handled through Wildland Trekking and the trip went off flawlessly. Signing up on their website was easy and there was always someone available to answer any questions we had. I cannot say enough good things about our guides, Chris and Max. They ensured everyone had a good time, was always safe, and saw the best of Yellowstone. Their timing was impeccable as we often had hikes or points of interest to ourselves. They ensured we were fed, and fed well. And they know how to put out an excellent spread. Our hike took place in late August. The weather was amazing, but could be a bit unpredictable. Make sure to bring layers and rain gear. If you find a hike a bit tough, let your guide(s) know and they will slow down or do whatever is necessary to make sure you have a good time. Engage with your guides and trust them. Ask questions and pay attention to the loads of information they share. They are there for you and doing a job they love. Keep your expectations realistic. The guides will do everything they can to see amazing sites and wildlife, but they can’t guarantee anything. Somethings no man can control. Getting into the National Park lodges is no easy accomplishment. Our rooms were very comfortable and a welcome site to clean up and change before dinner. Again our guides came through with wonderful recommendations for what to order at our meals (breakfast and dinner were at lodge restaurants). I wouldn’t change a thing about our experience, and would consider doing it again. We will definitely be taking another trip with Wildland Trekking in the not too distant future.

      Bechler River backpacking trip
My wife and I did the Bechler River Traverse in Yellowstone- what a trip! It was our first backpacking trip, this was absolutely the right choice- challenging without being overwhelming. Our guide Dani was FANTASTIC- I can't believe how much she can carry, how much she knows, how well she cooks in the backcountry and how much she cares about her guests. She is among the best of the best. Elsewhere on the team, we had nothing but excellent interactions with all the Wildland people with whom we met or communicated- support staff, van driver, etc- all contributed to a great trip. I would highly recommend this trip and Wildland.

Incredible backpacking adventure--6 days, 5 nights in the backcountry of Yellowstone
We had an incredible week in the backcountry of Yellowstone. Our itinerary was re-routed and our group was small (3 including guide) but it was still great. Sunshine, Lone Star Geyser, hot springs, waterfalls, river traverses... Josiah was a friendly, confident, knowledgeable and experienced guide. He was a backcountry wizard-chef making us unbelievable meals with many fresh ingredients. He did a great job keeping us posted on route, what to expect, psyching us up, and friendly banter and sharing stories. He worked so hard for us--setting up bear hangs, cooking meals, cleaning up, getting water. It felt luxurious for someone to do those things for us. One caveat is mosquitos (which is a given being so close to the water)--but the beautiful vistas, springs, and falls make it worth it. 6 days is a lot of backpacking but it was incredible. Thanks, Josiah for making it so great.

      Heart Lake Snake River Loop
My college friends and I have been booking with Wildland for many years, and each trip has been fantastic. While I'm very comfortable in the backcountry on my own, I really appreciate being able to show up with my pack and have everything arranged from food to transportation to permits. It's always great to meet a new guide and get to know them personally during the course of trek. Regarding the Heart Lake Snake River Loop, I would qualify this as beautiful walk in an active geothermal region. It was cool to see the active hot springs and geysers in the backcountry, without anyone else around! Beside the large animals you see going into the park, we saw marmots, bald eagles, and many other birds. A few river crossing added a tiny bit of technical hiking to the mix. And swimming in the Snake River was a blast. If you're planning this trip in the future consider staying at the Grand Targhee Ski Resort outside of Driggs ID. We crashed there before and after the trip and found it to be a great option away from the bustle of Jackson. Also, Driggs is a cool town with great restaurants, coffee shops and a fine supermarket. Kudos go out to the local team from Wildland including our guide Katy and the drivers (Max, Casey) who were super safe and also really cool people. And thanks to Wildland for having comfortable vans! You cannot go wrong in booking with Wildland.

Definitely recommend Wildland to see Yellowstone!
Very fun trip to see all the best sites of Yellowstone National Park! We were on the Basecamp Tour. Knowledgeable and excellent guides led a group of 7 of us through the park. We saw loads of wildlife, amazing earth formations, geysers, the works. Campsite was comfortable, the meals hit the spot, and the company was delightful. Definitely recommend Wildland! We were able to steer clear of most crowds and get in some hiking (easy and challenging) to check out amazing views.

      Go to Yellowstone with Wildland!
An official excellent trip led by excellent guides, Jack & Dakota. The weather was a challenge but we barely noticed given their superb leadership and flexibility. This company and these guides are solid and dependable.

I'm already thinking about my next Wildland trip!
I did the 5 day Bechler River backpacking trip at the end of July. This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!! We started at the Lone Star trailhead and got a chance to see the geyser erupt. Over the course of the five days, we experienced mountains, meadows, waterfalls, and bogs. Each day held a new adventure and challenge, but our expert guide navigated it all with ease. We relaxed in Mr. Bubbles on Day 2 and lounged in the hot springs at Dunanda Falls on Day 4, amazing experiences! They aren't kidding when they tell you the food is amazing. Our guide, Casey, put a lot of thought and preparation into our meals. He prepared breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day we were on the trail. I was amazed that he was still pulling fresh veggies out of his pack on day 4! It's so important to pack in the calories when you're hiking, and he made sure we were all very well fed. We ran into a ranger on the first day who told us that 90% of visitors to Yellowstone never travel more than a mile from their car. There is so much to see in the backcountry, and Wildland does all the planning and permitting for you. I can't recommend this highly enough.

We had a wonderful hiking day at Bunsen Peak with our guide Noah. He is a great guide, helpful, and knowledgeable. My husband and I have hiked in the mountains before, yet never with a guide. This was our first time using Wildland Trekking and we were very pleased. Noah exceeded our expectations and we had so much fun. We will use Wildland Trekking Company again.
