About the operator

- Helen W0 contributionsYosemite trip with Lasting AdventuresWe’ve just returned from a three day Yosemite trip with Lasting Adventures, for a group of five adults. Plenty of hiking and outdoor activities in good and not so good weather (luckily, with the right clothing), ably facilitated by our excellent guide Kara, who has many years experience with Lasting Adventures. She was knowledgeable, organised, and great fun. We originally wanted to do a multi day snow shoe trip, but unfortunately the snow was insufficient to allow this, so an alternative program was put in place at short notice. Lasting Adventures is a NFP and via their scholarship program is able to provide access to outdoor adventures to children who may otherwise not be able to participate in such activities, so it’s great to know that our trip is able to support bringing the benefits of immersion in nature to the next generation.Written 6 January 2025
- Steven S0 contributions4 day Yosemite wilderness backpacking trip with Half Dome summitI just completed a 4 day Yosemite wilderness backpacking trip with a summit of Half Dome via the infamous cables. Thanks to the professional staff at Wilderness Adventures and my amazing guide, John, I would consider this among my favorite " trips of a lifetime". Having summited Kili and completed the Everest Base Camp trek, this is quite a compliment. A lot of the credit goes to my guide, John. He did everything he could to make our trek as memorable as possible, from helping us pack our heavy backpacks, setting up our camp including our tents, cooking us a hot meal at night, making sure our water bottles were always filled with filtered water from the river to planning a sunset hot dinner with secret desert on the summit of Half Dome. He also made the hours hiking and climbing pass more quickly with his wealth of information about Yosemite Valley, its flora and fauna, and the characters who have inhabited it in the past and present. There was not a single question that he could not answer thoroughly and entertainingly. An added benefit, he is a big wall rock climber! He shared many interesting stories about the history of the community and technical climbing. Also felt much more confident in his ability to get us up and down Half Dome. So if you are looking to add Half Dome to your bucket list, l highly recommend Lasting Adventures and John, my guide.Written 21 October 2024
- amandazammit0 contributionsThe best private hiking guide! My husband and I had a private day hiking tour with Eric. We did the 4 mile trial, panorama trail and mist trail and had the most incredible day. From the very first meeting with Eric on the day of starting our hike we knew we were in for a great day! Any question we had about Yosemite, Eric could answer!! And he filled the day with lots of fun facts and information about all kinds of things within the park. He was also great at just knowing when to let us enjoy the moment and take it in, but could also fill in the day with fun conversation too. We would never have learnt so much, or seen as much as we did in the day without him. Would absolutely recommend Eric and lasting adventures to anyone looking for a guide within Yosemite.Written 16 October 2024
- jeannieh5060 contributionsEpic Backpack TripWe did the Cathedral Lakes/Clouds Rest/Half Dome trip, 5day/4night. It’s hard to find the words to describe the experience. Our guide was great and really knew his stuff. He supported us with all our needs including food and stress. The views from our travels were spectacular and breathtaking. His timing of our trek up Half Dome gave us an uncrowded and special experience. Dinner atop Half Dome was perfect. I would highly recommend Lasting Adventures especially for novice backpackers.Written 14 October 2024
- TDY-8050 contributionsSummiting Half Dome with Lasting AdventuresWe started with lunch at Glacier Point to take in the views of where we'd be going over the next 3 days/2 nights, then started our backpacking trip at Mono Meadows, ultimately making it to Half Dome, then down the JMT to Curry Village - about 21 miles total. The trip was incredible and an experience we will all remember forever – what an achievement it felt like to backpack all that way seeing Half Dome from every angle, then ultimately getting to summit it! Our Lasting Adventure guides were fantastic from the amazing geological knowledge they provided along the way, educating us on what we were seeing and trying to figure out how Half Dome was formed until the very end, to the delicious dinners they prepared at camp. They made sure we had everything we needed as we packed our backpacks upon arrival on the first morning, and clearly kept our safety in mind as well as ensuring we all did things as they should be done in the backcountry (leave no trace). I highly recommend going on a guided trip with this organization and would do it again myself in a heartbeat.Written 11 October 2024
- karenbG8035ZS0 contributionsEpic Half Dome AdventureDyson and John, our guides with Lasting Adventures were top notch. We did a 4 Day backpacking trip from Glacier Point to Half Dome. The experience, knowledge, skills, and motivation they portrayed during our trip, made us have an epic adventure. Fortunately, we were all (ages 54-64) able to summit Half Dome, which was a bucket list for all of us. Oh and their cooking was DELICIOUS. I never thought I would be eating tofu curry in the middle of the woods in Yosemite. I would highly recommend a guided tour with Lasting Adventures. It truly was a magnificent trip!Written 19 September 2024
- Odyssey634791661100 contributionsExperience Yosemite with fabulous guideIn August 2024, our group of four adults greatly enjoyed the 6 day custom itinerary backcountry trip in Yosemite's high Sierras, led by Lasting Adventures. (A side note: Since 1997, non-profit organization Lasting Adventures has been leading young people on backpacking wilderness trips without cell phones, challenging them and providing support/encouragement along the way.) Some of us were first time backcountry through hikers, so we really appreciated having a fabulous/friendly/knowledgeable guide with decades of experience in Yosemite. The hikes were challenging (in a good way) and the places we got to see were truly awe inspiring. From gorgeous mountains, to crystal clear lakes to cascading waterfalls complete with rainbows - the scenery made us so happy that our phones had no connectivity. Our photos cannot fully convey the beauty of the landscapes, and the inner peace that grew the longer we were disconnected from our typical busy lives. For our group, the Lasting Adventures trip was like hitting a "reset" button - so when we got home again, we were better able to enjoy and appreciate much that we'd previously overlooked or taken for granted. Also, I'd be remiss if I failed to mention how great the food was on this trip - everyone especially loved the fajitas!Written 16 September 2024
- ter9100 contributionsAwesome Half Dome AdventureThe entire experience was first class and outstanding! Our guides were Ella and Dyson - two remarkably professional, capable and knowledgeable guides. Not to mention just quality human beings. They live and shared the “leave no trace” philosophy. They shared their experience, park history and were supportive to all in our wide range of hikers. Not to mention their incredible back country cooking and meal prep skills. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks were tasty and plentiful. Summiting Half Dome and watching the sunset from the top was a special treat - as were the homemade donuts in the backcountry! Lasting Adventures provides quality gear for anything you don’t bring. I highly recommend this adventure with Lasting Adventures - be sure and ask for Ella and Dyson.Written 11 September 2024
- U253GMmaryr0 contributionsGET THE TRAVEL INSURANCE!I was so excited for this trip, have been backpacking for years and ready to take on Half Dome (bucket list trip). They tell you in every correspondence to get travel insurance, DO IT! I didn't, ended up with a bulging disc the week before and couldn't go on the trip due to the 50lb backpack weight requirement. My friends had the best time and loved it. I lost $1800. GET INSURANCE!!!!!!!Written 7 September 2024

- emilysQ4884BJ0 contributionsTremendous Tour Experience!I have been to Yosemite as a kid and adult, and returned this summer to bring my wife and our 6 & 9 year old sons. We elected to hire a guide to make sure we saw as much of the valley as possible while keeping our young kids interested in the journey. Best decision we could have made. Will from Lasting Adventures was a wealth of knowledge on the parks history, plants, trees, wildlife, hidden gems and so much more. We walked away feeling like the value was incredible and both boys want to go back, and bring Will and his family with us!Written 26 August 2024

- 298cecilea0 contributionsUnforgettable day with Guide Jack from Lasting AdventuresWe had the pleasure of being guided by Jack on our visit of Yosemite. We thoroughly appreciated his knowledge on the nature, geology and history of the natural park. Jack was insightful in sharing the culture of the climbing community he is a part of and kind enough to demonstrate all of his material and equipment. He took the time to ensure our expectations where reasonably met, allowing us to make the most of our day in Yosemite. We proudly recommend Jack as a tour guide for families looking to spend an unforgettable day at Yosemite Natural Park.Written 18 August 2024

We had a great 4 days of backcountry hiking with John as our guide. We hiked from the Ostrander Lake trailhead to Glacier Point via Ostrander Lake, Hart Lake and Buena Vista Lake. This was a replacement for a Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne tour that was inaccessible due to a road closure. We were mostly hiking on faint trails, with a little bit of off-trail hiking. The scenery was amazing and we saw very few other people once we were a few miles from the trailhead. It was quite challenging at times but within what we’d requested and what we turned out to be capable of. It was a wonderful family experience.
There were a couple of things we wouldn’t have done without a guide, including wading thigh deep across a fast flowing mountain stream (which was not necessary for our itinerary). John was a great guide - good company, very knowledgeable and experienced, and a great chef. The food was a positive surprise including freshly-made Penang Curry…not the prepackaged camping food I’d expected.
One thing to bear in mind when choosing a tour is that hiking with a full backpack is much slower and harder work than carrying a light day pack. A good rule of thumb is to multiply by 3. Hiking 6 miles with 1500 feet elevation with a full backpack felt about the same effort as hiking 18 miles and 5,000 feet of elevation with a day pack.

My husband and I just completed a great backpacking trip with Lasting Adventures. Registration and communication with the company was first rate, responsive and timely. Our guides, Gus and Max, were knowledgeable, encouraging, and cooked delicious food for us at every meal. The epitome was watching the set set over Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne, while our guides made us dessert right there on the bluff: hot donuts! Our guides had endless amounts of information about Yosemite history, flora, fauna, and geology, which we appreciated very much. There were seven in our group, plus the guides, and we all enjoyed meeting each other, hiking together, and working together to solve the riddles that the guides posed. Great trip!

My teenager and I just got back from a 5 day/4 night guided backpacking trip in Yosemite with Ciara as our guide. The trip was incredible and Ciara was an AMAZING guide.
The trip exceeded all expectations and was so special for us after a year of many cancellations due to Covid-19. Our itinerary was well thought out, especially since we were first time backpackers. Lasting Adventures and our guide planned challenging hikes with incredible views while also allowing us to swap out our food supplies and have time to relax. The highlight was sunrise at the summit of Cloud’s Rest; we hiked through the night with total confidence and supportive encouragement from Ciara. Throughout the 5 days, we learned all about Yosemite, got to know each other, and had the luxury to unplug and simply enjoy the magnificent park.
The food was amazing and not at all what we expected. Ciara provided us with freshly cooked meals that fully accommodated our dietary needs. We are planning to make some of her recipes at home!
Finally, as for Covid-19, Lasting Adventures had procedures in place for hand sanitizing and minimizing any cross contamination. It was rational and not burdensome, and we felt safe. We have already recommended Lasting Adventures to several friends and we will be back! My teenager has caught the backpacking bug after this incredible adventure. Thank you so much to the Lasting Adventures entire crew for superb communications & organization, and a trip that we will treasure for a lifetime.

My family of 4 just returned from the Amazing Sunsets backpacking trip with Lasting Adventures (5 days, 4 nights) . It was truly amazing! How soon can we go back?!
From the time we booked the trip, the communication was helpful and clear. Meeting our guides in Curry Village was easy and they had everything organized for us to quickly begin our adventure.
Our guides were Bella and Kanyon and they were FANTASTIC! They were knowledgeable about the area and routes, geology of the park, and plants and animals we saw along the way. The food they prepared exceeded our expectations! Bella and Kanyon were quick to share stories, offer guidance when needed, and were patient with all of us and our varying paces while hiking. Their energy and enthusiasm was contagious...they kept things fun!
Experiencing the backcountry of Yosemite was such a gift. I appreciated having the opportunity to do optional day trips to explore other areas. We were able to swim by a waterfall which is something we all looked forward to doing. My family wanted to be challenged, work together, and explore this beautiful area. The trip did not disappoint! We will gladly book another trip with Lasting Adventures in the future (and hope Bella and Kanyon will be our guides again!).

Booked a last minute vacation for my family with Lasting Adventures and could not be happier. We did the Amazing Sunsets Backpacking trip and had an amazing time. Our guide August took care of us, cooked wonderful meals and made sure we were comfortable and safe at all times. The highlight for us was summiting Cloud's Rest at sunrise where August prepared coffee, hot chocolate and a eggs and cheesy hash browns breakfast. If you love the outdoors, this is the adventure for you!

From registration to trip completion Lasting Adventures provided excellent service and truly a once in a lifetime experience. Thanks to our guide Trey for his professionalism, vast knowledge, hiking and cooking skills, flexibility, and adaptability. Trey’s back country experience allowed the group to experience and truly enjoy places and things we could not do on our own. Lasting Adventures did not cut any corners, the equipment and food were excellent! I highly recommend this guide service, they secured all the permits and communication was excellent. I can’t wait to go again!

My family of 5 and I signed up for the Amazing Sunsets trip (5 days, 4 nights). I was not sure I (the mom) was going to love sleeping out in the wild with my family among wildlife (read: bears). But once we got there and started having fun...it was never an issue! (Although I am not sure I would ever get used to using the "poop kit" regularly...lol)
We began in Yosemite Valley and ended at Soda Springs/Glen Aulin area. Critter and Curtis were our guides and THEY WERE AMAZING!!! Critter was fun (swimming with us, playing games, snowman making competition...), knowledgeable and laid back. You could tell that he loved his job. He was attentive (provided delicious dairy free food for me--with a severe dairy allergy) and was EXCELLENT with our kids. Critter was always making sure we had all we needed, as well as being sure the pace he set for us was good for each of us (esp my youngest). He gave my youngest a pep talk when she thought she could go no further. :) And when my son lost his favorite souvenir Critter gave him one of his. As parents we could not have dreamed of a better guide! He prepared AMAZING meals. We never dreamed of enjoying tacos, curry or spaghetti in the woods! We really enjoyed our chats after we set up camp with hot tea/coffee in hand.
Curtis was also light hearted and fun! He was always up for helping, learning from Critter and making our trip a good one. He also was great with our kids.
We learned so much and saw some of the most gorgeous places in the world. I would highly recommend this company and this trip. And if we go again...we hope it's with Critter!
We went the first week of July and the mosquitos were A STRONG PRESENCE. We were hiking over snow but swatting mosquitoes. We wore the head nets, long pans/sleeves, and spray but they were relentless at times. I know this sounds crazy but it did not ruin the trip at all. It was worth it. :)

I can’t say enough good things about my trip with Lasting Adventures! Max and Gus were absolutely amazing guides. They did a great job explaining all of the plans and protocols, ensuring everyone was comfortable, and probably most importantly for me, accommodated my dietary restrictions. They were also a seemingly endless font of knowledge; though I day hike in the Sierras regularly, I learned SO much about the local flora and fauna. I was also given a very valuable lesson in orienteering! In addition, they didn’t make me feel bad about my slower pace. Recently, I’ve been dealing with some health issues and this trip has helped me developed the mental fortitude to deal with my symptoms; if I can spend 4 nights in the wilderness, I can surely accomplish anything! I definitely left with memories to last a lifetime, and the unquenchable hunger to return to the mountains. I highly recommend choosing Lasting Adventures!!

I had a great 5 days backpacking trip with lasting adventures with my son and Trey as our guide at Yosemite NP. It wasn’t physically easy but so beautiful, exciting and amazing bounding trip with my son. Trey is an amazing guide he cooked, play, took photos, and explained everything to us. I highly recommend this trip to anyone that would like to recharge his batteries. We did many of the sights including El Capitán, North Dome, Yosemite Falls, Eagle Peak among others. I would strongly recommend everyone to experience this trip!!!
