What to expect
  • We offer cooking classes on a traditional, organic farm, using a real traditional stove for an authentically Balinese experience. Using organic ingredients from our vegetable garden, we will teach you about Balinese cuisine, from its Indian and Chinese influences to the usage of spices to presentation with Banana leaves. And of course, you will cook a delicious meal that can be easily replicated at home. But we will also invite you to use our organic ingredients to craft contemporary treats, like your own green juices. Our day will begin with a welcome drink. I will take this time to present our community movement and teach you how we grow our organic produce. After that, we will walk along the community farm; learn more about organic farming and the unique, UNESCO- protected Subak System in Bali. We will also pick the ingredients we are going to cook with. Once we arrive to the centre of the community, the Mai Organic farm, we will prepare 6 Balinese dishes, fresh juices to accompany them and traditional offerings for mother’s nature, God. Finally, you will enjoy your meal in a tranquil gubuk (hut) and take home a printed recipe book of traditional Balinese dishes.

Wonderful farm to table experience
Jan 2021 • Solo
Have a good time on the farm to table experience. Kadek pick me up from the pick up point on time. The experience started with touring the rice terrace to harvest the ingredients needed for cooking. Kadek give clear explanation of what the Mai Organic Community trying to achieve for the local farmer and the experience is one of the way to introduce to more people. We’re cooking in really traditional kitchen, with burning log. Really impressed that all the vegetables coming from the farm. We cooking lots of Balinese food and it turns out really delicious. I’m really recommending this for one of kind to do when you’re at Bali.

A deeply enriching experience
Jan 2021 • Solo
The cooking class with Bli Kadek was such a beautiful and unique experience! I was lucky enough to have the whole class to myself. We went to Mai Organic farm and picked all of the ingredients for the 8 Balinese dishes I then got to learn how to cook in the traditional way. Not only did I learn about how to prepare the dishes, but about the history of Balinese agriculture, culture and ethics of local farming. Mai Farm is really setting an example and involving local farmers to take their land and become more sustainable and forward thinking.

Experiance 2 Remember
Mar 2020 • Friends
Where to begin... visiting Organic Farm was an experiance i shall not forget any time soon. Pung is a phenominal ambassador of the farm. He guided us around the farm explaining about each item allowing us to pick what we needed for the class. The ingredients are all organic and as fresh as can be. The food was delicious, the people are kind and there passion is evident. The class is affordable and all the money essentially goes back into the villiage/farm raising the quality of life for all those around. I highly reccommend this experiance for anyone interested.

Very good cooking class
Sep 2019
We did the organic-cooking class at Mai‘s farm. We were a group of just 4 and started with a very interesting tour through the rice fields. Our guide Komang was very friendly and told us a lot about farming, his religion and the organic farming movement in this area.

The cooking class was interesting, they explained a lot of what they do and answered every question and the food was just awesome.

We can highly recommend cooking class at Mai Organic Farm!! They do a lot of good things for the area and the nature. So if you book a class at Mai‘s you be also a part of movement which do something good for Bali.

Highlight of our trip
Aug 2019
This was a truly phenomenal experience. We toured the farm and picked produce for the meal we later cooked, while learning about their community outreach and sustainable farming practices. It was relaxing and calm, and our host Kadek was welcoming and fun. The meal we helped to prepare was one of the best meals I had during out trip, and they handled our sons' allergy very well, while still offering the delicious peanut sauce to the rest of our group. We didn't feel rushed, and the owner spent a lot of time educating us about the farm. Would definitely go back and I highly recommend it.

Cooking class with heart
Aug 2019 • Couples
We did not know what to expect when we booked this program on airbnb, but I really glad that we chose this, from the hundreds of Bali cooking classes.
Kadek and his team were amazing, they are really enthusiastic for their job, and believe in it with heart. The program started with walking in the fields and collecting all the ingredients. It was a very good experience, harvesting these exotic plants by our own hands. Meanwhile the preparation of the meals was really interesting and fun at the same time, it made us remember always appriciate what we have and how good is our mother nature. Everything was really delicious.
In Mai Organic farm they are engaged to produce healthy and chemical-free plants and spread it to other Bali farmers too. There are a lot of possibility in this cooking class and I am sure it will be expands in the future and more program to come, so I suggest everyone not to miss this while visiting Ubud!
