- Kathryn H0 contributionsFantastic experience. This was amazing. I was very worried about if I would be able to do it, as well as anxious about the whole experience in terms of safety. There was one guide for our group of three. Isaak was very thorough and calm. Explained what was happening and how to use the equipment. He made sure I knew that speed was irrelevant and it was to be enjoyed. My two teenagers loved it and so did I. It felt very safe as you climbed and I would recommend it. We walked up the mountain from the end- beautiful views all the way through.Written 25 June 2024
- LukaskoK890 contributionsAn absolute mustAmazing views, quite bit of challenge and TOTALLY worth the time and money! DO NOT skip this place if Via Ferrata is something you are into 👌🏼Written 30 May 2024
- Lc1000 contributionsWOW - MUST DO!Not a huge fan of heights so tried this and loved it. Guide was amazing, took everything very slow, 100% focused on safety. Amazing views and perfect weather. Still need to have some strength to climb vertical sections. Carry a light backpack (Camelback ideal for ease of eater access). Picnic rest bench for some BYO snacks - epic view!Written 8 October 2023
- scottcaps0 contributionsIntro Wall is an amazing experience; be aware of what all it entailsMy 17 year old son and I reserved a Noon guided intro wall via ferrata two months in advance of our port day on a cruise. The Norsk Tindesenter (Mountaineering Center) is right at the pier in town, in a beautifully designed building. We checked in and were given our climbing harness and helmet. Note that gloves are required (I had purchased some belaying gloves on Amazon to bring with me), but they also have gloves there that you can buy and keep. Shoes with a good hiking tread are essential, but they also have hiking boots there that you can rent. There were five guests in our group and our guide was Jorund. Bring a backpack with water and to store extra layers of clothes suitable for the weather. We were fortunate to have a partly sunny day and were actually hot during the climb, but at the top of the mountain, it was cooler, so we were glad for the additional layer. You can have a cell phone or camera, but it needs to be in a zippered pocket - otherwise, you will drop it. Might also be good to have a strap on it for when you are at places where you can get it out for use. Even though this is called the intro wall and does say that it is for beginners, this is not easy. I am 56 and in decent shape, but this was very challenging for me. Some good upper body strength and leg strength & flexibility is required. If you are scared of heights, this is not for you. There is a combination of metal rungs, boards, small metal footholds, rock edges, and belay rings that you will be using as both hand and foot holds. My biggest struggle was that I am only 5'1" and not the most flexible of my life and there were at least 3 places where I really had a hard time as the metal assistants were just too far apart for me to reach. I did lose my foothold at one of these and I did fall, but the safety harness and equipment worked exactly as it is supposed to, allowing me to only fall a few feet and I was easily able to reach back on to the metal trail. I had a couple of small cuts and bruises, but was able to keep going to finish. Jorund was amazing, very encouraging and supportive to everyone in our group. He told us stories about being a guide and his life in Norway and was all around a great guide that made all of us feel comfortable. He did use a rope to assist me in two of the difficult places for me. My son had no difficulties and loved his experience. The scenery from everywhere along the climb was amazing and there were plenty of places to safely take pictures. The guided part of the climb takes you a little bit more than halfway up the mountain where there is then a short hike to then reach the main hiking trail that goes from town to the top gondola station. You have a choice of walking back down with the guide to the mountaineering center (45 minutes), or you can elect to continue on your own up the trail. Note that you must take your helmet and harness with you to turn back into the mountaineering center. My son and I did elect to continue up the trail, where we went to the Rampestreken Viewpoint on the way up and then to the to the gondola station (took us an hour total), had a snack from the Cafe there, then took the gondola back down to town. This was a steep hike with lots of steps, and we were already tired from the climbing, but we were still happy we did the extra hike up. The gondola station in town is next door to the Mountaineering Center. Overall, this was a great experience, and I am proud of myself for trying it and completing it (with a little assistance, thanks to Jorund). Just make sure you are fully aware of what this entails before signing up.Written 12 August 2023
- U403YBchristinam0 contributionsFun challenge for experienced via ferrata/rock climbers! The Romsdalsstigen West Wall is a fun challenge for experienced via ferrata/rock climbers. If you can climb 5.9 in the gym and 5.8 outdoors and have above average physical conditioning and stamina you can do it. Took us 2 hours 45min from the end of the pavement to the gondola but we were NOT in a group and didn’t get stuck behind anyone. I suspect this could truly take the 5-6 hours the website claims in a group. Things to know: -There is no parking at the start and the start is 1.2 miles from the gondola ($350 NOK) which you most likely want to take down after the via ferrata. If possible have someone drop you off at the start of the via ferrata to skip a long walk through town. -There is a decent amount of very steep uphill climbing at the start and in between sections of the via ferrata which was the most difficult part for my husband who is a better climber than me -I could see the via ferrata being difficult if you are shorter than 5ft 4in. There were many sections where I could just barely reach the next clip or hold. If you are shorter I recommend you be a better climber than stated above and be able to use the natural rock more -This via ferrata uses a lot of traditional metal bars/rings/foot holds. There are some brief sections that rely more on natural rock -There are several (I think 4) overhangs that were challenging but have very good holds. You need a little extra upper body strength to get over them -This was fun even on a misty day and kept the wall cooler. You can always take the gondola back up another sunny day and hike the ridge to get the view !Written 27 June 2023

- marhau0 contributionsGreat guided tour up the Westwall of Via Ferrata Åndalsnes. One of the greatest experiences of my life! We had some previous climbing experience (mostly indors/climbing parks) but we had never tried a Via Ferrata before so we bought climbing trip with a guide. Our guide Axel made all the difference. I dont’t think I would have made it without him. He described the route a head and could show us how to climb the tricky parts. The trail consists of three parts, and the secound part has two small overhanging areas. I will recomend using a camelback water system for easy water access and using the restroom before start (you can NOT take the harness of during the trip.)Written 14 August 2022
- jasonrQ4986QF0 contributionsGood day out on the Andalasnes Via FerrataWe really enjoyed our first via ferrata. We are experienced climbers so I thought that the intro wall might be a little tame. But although there were some long easy sections there were also some more sporting sections and plenty of interest overall. Should also be straightforward enough for fit non-climbers so long as you have a head for heights. It's basically Go Ape on a cliff face.Written 13 August 2022
- Klangland0 contributionsBucket list experience! This was such an incredible experience! Epic views in every direction until we finished in the clouds at the top! The route was quite wet & muddy in places after a heavy rain the day before. This made everything more slippery so I was especially thankful we had a guide for support. Well worth it - a true bucket list item!Written 28 July 2022
- 193stephm0 contributionsOutstanding views and an amazing via FerrataA via Ferrata with great views. Even if it was wet we were able to complete it safely as it is well planned out and you barely use the rock which was wet and slippery. There are 3 sections of vertical walls beautiful and very exposed. Gloves to be used if you do not want blisters especially on a wet day! We thought it would be crowed but we were the only ones on the wall. I definitely recommend the west wall for those who enjoy climbing regularly and have via Ferrata experience :)Written 24 July 2022
- katherinepP4673KM0 contributionsMy Favorite Adventure in Norway! This was the absolute highlight of our trip to Norway. I couldn't stop smiling the whole day. Our guide Kristen was very knowledgeable, safe, and helpful. They kept the group size very small which I think is necessary for this activity. We only had 4 people in our group plus our guide. We ended up choosing the West Wall and are very glad that we did. The views were absolutely amazing and the climbing was a blast. You do need to be very physically fit because it is physically exhausting. There is a lot of steep hiking and then the climbing walls are vertical. However you don't need any climbing experience to do well on the West Wall (although it would help). Even though it is a vertical wall they have added hand and foot holds exactly where you would want/need them. The whole route is well put together. The video on the website gives a really good idea of what you will experience. With the walk down at the end, the whole trip took about 6 hours. You can pay to take the gondola down at the end instead if hiking which will save about 45 min to an hour. If you have endurance, a sense of adventure, and a love of heights then this is the adventure for you.Written 22 July 2022
- meghanh41320 contributionsThrilling experience with amazing views!Great experience! The guide was knowledgeable and helpful. He made us feel safe by checking in on everyone and sometimes guiding in the front while other times going in the middle to check on everyone. There were a couple overhanging parts and definitely some longer reaches if you are less than 5'4" (163 cm) that made it feel a little less safe for those who were shorter but easier those who are taller. If you can avoid it, do not pick a rainy day to do the climb. The metal holds and some of the holds on the actual rock are slippery when wet. We slipped of both the rock and metal when it rained during our climb, made it a little scarier than it would have been on a dry day, plus you couldn't see anything from the top with the rain clouds.Written 18 July 2022
