- Aussietravellers10 contributionsHistorical town and good whiskeyAmazing historical house and distillery, we did a quick tour and as we were the only ones we had a "private tour" very enjoyable. A tasting afterwards also very enjoyable and worth the driveWritten 17 November 2024
- steviejw20240 contributionsGreat trip to wonderful boutique whiskeryConnor was a terrific and informative guide to the historic Old Kempton Coaching house distillery. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and lunch in this beautiful old place.Written 7 November 2024
- dgc196420170 contributionsWonderful TimeWe arrived on a cool Saturday morning and we warmly welcomed by the staff. The tour was very informative and our tasting boards were clearly described. Our charcuterie board was terrific and allowed us to taste some local treats. I would recommend the opportunity to come and try.Written 27 September 2024
- 851rosss0 contributionsDisappointingWe were returning to Hobart from the East Coast and decided to pop into the Courtyard for a snack. It is a very pleasant area, we had been there on previous occasions. We chose the Ham and Cheese toasty plus beverage. The toasty was awful. Two slices of white bread from the packet with very little ham or cheese. The menu also listed some special chutney. If there was any there we did not taste it. The toasty was slapped on the plate with no garnish whatsoever. From memory it was $17, very poor value.Written 6 May 2024
- lorrainel2390 contributionsOld Kempton delightWe thoroughly enjoyed the tour, tasting and lunch at Old Kempton Distillery and especially enjoyed the commentary and history as told to us by the tour guide for the day. The history of the house was fascinating and gave us a real understanding of the town and its early settlement. Thank you to all for a great day.Written 6 March 2024

- Kathleen M0 contributionsEXTREMELY DISAPPOINTEDTook my partner here for his Birthday a few years ago and was very impressed at the time with the shared platter. So being his birthday again today, I took him here again. Was NOT HAPPY with the platter this time. It was not as good as previous, and not worth the money. There was no bread served (like the last time) just some dry crackers. I asked for some bread and was presented with 5 very tiny pieces of bread with melted butter. Meats were sliced salmon, pastrami, gerkins (none of which I eat), some roast beef, tasteless button mushrooms, grapes, 2 types of cheese, dried tomatoes, fresh baby tomatoes, slices of pickled onion. NO serviettes were available, and to top it all off, my partners beer wasnt cold. Won't be supporting them again.Written 12 February 2024

Matt and the team were excellent hosts. There was genuine enthusiasm for their work which translated into the experience we received. the tour was thorough with freedom to ask questions about all aspects of the process. There were several tastings during the tour to explain what was happening to the whisky and how it was changing during the process. The lunch was well presented and the sampling was well though through and professionally delivered.

Firstly, the guide Angus was such a great character. From the moment he introduced himself he had us laughing and had our attention.
The place itself is beautiful. The building is stunning.
We got to check out the distill process. The whole process is fascinating.
We were taken into the VIP room where we tried an array of whiskies and gins.
The tastes were all very unique.
Then an amazing platter came out for each of us which consisted of cold meats, cheese, crackers, olives (which i personally think go perfectly with straight whisky) and some other yummy bits a pieces.
I even asked about another whisky and Angus dashed out and grabbed a sample for me.

Total experience was excellent.Â
Young lady who gave the tour had a good knowledge of history on the property and the making of the various spirits .
Tastings were well explained and enjoyed by all.
A couple of suggestions to improve the platter.
Take the camembert cheese out of the fridge an hour before serving as it should room temperature.
Replace the orange slices with apple or pear as both would go very well with the cheese.Â
Lovely house and we shall return in the summer for some music and cocktails.

Good Morning Lester,
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback and suggestions! We will certainly take them onboard and endeavour to add some fresh apple and pear slices onto our platters.
We 100% agree that the cheese should have been room temperature, please accept our apologies that this wasn't done this time - we will certainly make sure that next time you visit us it is pulled out the fridge earlier.
We hope to see you both soon for cocktails and live music!
Have a wonderful day,

A brilliant tour with super friendly staff and the tasting and platter for two was amazing. We learned so much more about Whiskey and Gin and then got some great product to take home from the shop. Loved hearing about the history of the building.

What an amazing informative tour. Thorougly enjoyable and we learned so much about the process and questions answered with obvious knowledge of hands on expertise. The staff were incredibly welcoming and the manor house itself was beautifully maintained beyond belief. The tastings and the delicious food were a testment to the distillery and complimented all that we had learned on our tour. We had the best time and highly recommend this experience as a must for anyone.

From the tour to the one on one tasting session with the amazing staff. We walked away being blown off our feet by the amazing whiskey and gin but also being able to see the heart and soul of this distillery through their staff and products, today was one of the coolest experiences in my life. Our highlight was seeing the stills and have Hannah and Rob take us through the whole process to create the whiskey and gin. #whiskey #whiskeylife #whiskeybar #gintonic #ginlovers #whiskeylover #singlemaltwhisky #tasmania #discovertasmania #tasmaniafood #mustdotravels #mustdotasmania #holiday #holdays

Hubby and I visited on a Monday recently after reading about The Old Kempton Distillery in a Booklet at our accommodation & that's how we stumbled across this gem. Just a minute or two off the main highway on the way to/from Hobart and or Launceston. It was quiet as it was a Monday and Hannah and her sidekick young man expertly juggled looking after the approximate 4 groups of people partaking on that day. Hannah was an absolute delight. Because it wasn't too busy she really went the extra mile to make us feel like valued customers. We did not buy any whisky as, yes, it was expensive, but Hubby purchased some whisky glasses and we enjoyed looking around the building, using the HUGE toilet/throne and the lunch was yummy (catered for gluten free toasties for myself & hubby enjoyed his Whisky flavoured pie, followed by tea and scones with jam and cream - oink) and NOTHING was too much trouble for her. I wanted to give her a tip as the service was so excellent but she politely declined so I promised I would do this review instead. Absolutely LOVED our visit and highly recommend it. If you want a HUGE menu to pick from and don't like the idea of perhaps waiting a few minutes for a staff member to get to you when you arrive then it wont be for you, but if you are happy to go with the flow you will hopefully enjoy it as much as we did.
