About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- denised225680 contributionsHumbledWhat a lovely experience. Great people with a strong history. We were shown around the village and visited the Maroon Museum and had a cold drink in local bar. It’s not an easy drive to get there and it is very basic so don’t expect a souvenir shop.Written 5 May 2024
- 342mrsj0 contributionsRoom for improvement but nice stayWas a trip for my birthday. Had a wonderful time. I would say it isn’t as luxury as made out and compared to other hotels we have stayed at. Rooms quite basic really for the price. 2 weeks all inclusive with butler service - the butler service is what made the trip it wouldn’t have been as good without. Didn’t use the butlers much but the assistance and vip service for restaurant bookings made the stay easier. Unfortunately had to report 2 incidents of very rude staff. One I encountered upsetting a man and his wife and child in the lift, so rude I intervened. Another young girl in sports bar very rude to me despite me having waited for well over half an hour no service then she started going to others that came in after me. She was raising her voice and being extremely unprofessional when I walked over to her to ask if we could at least be given a menu. Management did speak with her but no apology was received. Also coffee shop a few children had been spoken to rudely. They just need to remember they are at work not with their peers as some of them are not equipped for professional environments with the attitude. But majority of staff were amazing. Entertainment crew worked so so hard practising through the day and putting on great shows they were brilliant. Shawn our butler was amazing. This man goes above and beyond. This man should be in management his customer service and professionalism was higher than the one member of “management” we encountered but then again might not have been a manager we think was an assistant to the manager. My husband is a business director and also said this man showed amazing potential in a lot higher capacity than he currently is. We had 2 butlers and the other one was nice also. seems the butlers get blamed for a lot of mishaps when in fact each department or hotel should take responsibility for their own teams failings. Drinks were never restocked in our room despite being premium guests. Butler kept asking but then the excuses would come they ran out of drinks. Also we constantly had to go to vip to get bottled water as normal bar kept “running out”. for those without premium bookings this wouldn’t be great if they wanted cold bottled water. Same with some drinks. Food was ok. Steakhouse wait was ridiculous - seemed understaffed but the staff there worked extremely hard and done their best. Jerk hut on beach was lovely. But again after first couple days it was they don’t have this or that. Important to be consistent with what is offered to guests. Overall a lovely trip made this way because of our butler Shawn. Would stay again possibly just because our children enjoyed the slides etc but as a couple only would stay somewhere else for what we paid, which was a lot!Written 24 July 2023
- quevedo_10100 contributionsMUST SEEThis trip is a MUST for all people to the Island of Jamaica. The Strength, Passion and Purpose of the Maroons is what Liberty and Freedom looks like for all formerly enslaved people. Amazing experience, welcoming community and highly knowledgeable about their history.Written 2 May 2022
- IndraMohabir0 contributionsBlack River and YS FallsThe river and falls were breathtaking and we loved seeing the crocodiles and turtles at the dock area and holding a baby crocodile! Our tour guide, Hopeton, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We learned a lot from him and he made the tour very smooth. We highly recommend Hopeton!Written 3 February 2020
- rebeccagG6770XJ0 contributionsAWESOME Tour and Guide!Hopeton Barrett picked me and my teenage daughter up at our Ocho Rios hotel and treated us like royalty on our private tour. We really enjoyed our day seeing the Rose Hall Great House and Columbus park. He took extra time and showed us around Montego Bay, told us about Jamaican history and culture, and we felt so comfortable with Hopeton that by the end of the trip he felt like he was part of our family. Even though it wasn't listed as part of the tour, Hopeton shared with us some local culinary treats which we both loved. He was a safe and courteous driver, very conscientious. We highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a spectacular day away from the resort or away from the cruise ship.Written 25 December 2019
- mariamO2153AX0 contributionsSight See at Your Own PaceHopeton took us to see the Bob Marley Museum. Highly recommend that trip. We had an excellent trip. Lots of scenery on the way able to take our own photos. Ate local food which was excellent, he exposed to new foods at our request. Travel and tour at our own pace. He took pictures and sent them to us. Very clean vehicle and friendly.Written 20 December 2019
- JohnSnider0 contributionsThe Hat Came BackMy wife and I recently visited Runaway Bay Jamaica. We made arrangements with Hopeton Barret to provide us with transportation from Montego Bay airport to our Hotel and back again seven days later. Our flight was delayed by an hour but Hopeton was their to greet us and introduce us to our driver, Carline. It was early evening and the sun had already set. We were immediately put at ease with both Carline's words and excellent driving. I had the window down and a breeze blew an old tattered Bauer Hockey ball cap off my head into the back cargo area. Anne had recently wished I'd not wear the tattered hat so I left it in the cargo area of the vehicle. In about 45 minutes Carline had us safely to our destination. Fast forward seven days later and there was Carline awaiting us in our lobby to take us to the Airport. I loaded our luggage into the rear hatch and as I entered the vehicle, there sitting on my seat was my old Bauer Hockey ball cap. It was early I n the morning and I was able to see all the sites Carline had listed on our night drive in. When Carline dropped us off at the airport Hopeton was there to greet us and thank us for our patronage. I'd like to thank him and Carline for adding to our Jamaican experience in a very positive way. I would highly recommend Jamaica Shore Expeditions for all your travel needs. They supply an excellent vehicle and just as importantly a very competent driver. Back home in London Ontario I played my first round of golf this year. It was a very good first round and I think wearing my lucky Bauer Hockey cap had something to do with it. Thank you Hopeton and Carline. John SniderWritten 6 May 2018
- Shomari W0 contributionsThe Real Jamaican EXPERIENCE!! Blue hole and Dunns river fallsWell where to start, I was greeted by Mr. Barrett at our hotel on time and in a very clean vehicle. Mr. Barrett took my family and I to the real Blue hole which is named Island gully falls where we went to hike and take pictures at the waterfall and cliff dive. He was very informative on Jamaica's historical site and made the time fly by on the trip. After we even had time to hit Dunns river waterfall which was also a great experience. Those events were good but Mr. Barret went above and beyond to give us the true Jamaican experience by making stops on the way. Stopping at local tourist attraction (Columbus Landing). Getting local fruit along the way including ginips, sugarcane, star fruit, and naseberrys to name a few made my wife and mother's day. He also took us to a local west Indian restaurant to try out the local cuisine which was amazing. Mr. Barret was humorous, fun, professional, basically providing world class service. Another plus he provided it for a much better price and quality than the resorts was asking.Written 30 August 2016
- linofresh0 contributionstransportation to island gully fallsThe best hideaway falls in Jamaica in the parishes of St..Anns and St.Mary. transportation was the best, most informative about out destination . - heather71770 contributionsAmazing Day in JamaicaWe all had a blast with JamaicaShore Expeditions. There were 10 of us and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was great to get away from the resort and explore more of the real Jamaica. We stopped at the Christopher Columbus site then went to Blue Hole where we hiked up waterfalls and did some cliff jumping. On the way home we stopped for some real Jamaican food. The Hopeton's gave us some great history lessons and even the kids were interested. I highly recommend booking your day trip with this company. Did I mention that prices were lower than the prices at the resort?? You'll be glad you did!Written 2 April 2016
- Perrine630 contributionsAwesome Experience! We took Tripadvisor's recommendation and hired Jamaica Shore Expeditions during our recent trip to Jamaica. We were a family of ten...grandparents, parents and the grandchildren. We choose this tour agency because of its high rating from tripadvisor and the price was much better than the tour agencies recommended by our hotel! This experience was the highlight of our trip. Our guide and owner was Hopton Barrett. He the BEST guide. He was always prompt, patient, kind, very courteous, and extremely knowledge. He taught us a lot about the history and culture of Jamaica. He took us to the Blue Hole which is Trioadvisor's number one thing to do in Jamaica. It was an even greater experience because of Hopeton. He did not just drop us off as many guides do, he was right with us making sure all our needs were met and that we were safe. We had a great trip back to our hotel even stopping at a local restaurant for lunch for a real taste of Jamaican food. Hopeton even came back the next day and gave each of us small memento of Jamaica. How kind was that! Hopeton went beyond what you expect from a guide.. We definitely got much more than we paid for!Written 1 April 2016
- PerrineJr0 contributionsSafe, Efficient and Fun!My experience with Jamaica Shore Expeditions was superb. Owner and operator, Hopeton Barrett was professional right from the start. He met us at our hotel the day before to introduce himself and discuss what type of excursion we would like to do. He offered up a number of options and ideas and we settled on a couple of them. Hopeton went over some safety rules and proceeded to pick us up the next morning right on time. Hopeton and his driver were very professional throughout the trip. Anytime we wanted to stop to take pictures or go shopping it was never an issue. The trip lasted all day and we had so much fun at Blue Hole waterpark and enjoying lunch a local authentic Jamaican restaurant. Their knowledge of the Island and its heritage was spot on. Overall, I highly recommend signing up and riding out with JSE for a full day of family fun. 2 thumbs up!Written 29 March 2016
