Sam is an amazing tour guide. We did 2 hikes with his tour company and we thoroughly enjoyed both. He is very knowledgeable about the plants and the island and history of the island. He is very willing to accommodate the group based on the needs of the group. He comes well equipped with hiking sticks and extra water if needed. I highly recommend booking any of Sam's tours with him. If your unsure about your ability to hike the trail, just reach out to him and he is happy to work with you for what is the best hike so that you have a great experience. Sam was very prompt with pick up and extremely easy to communicate with. His English is fluent and we were able to chat very easily with him.

Through Azores Getaway, we rencently had Sam two days straight for different tours, we couldnt have asked for a better experienced tour. He picked us up right at the hotel. Sam was very knowledgeable, good driver, very respectful and has full of information. He is very interesting to speak with. We toured with Sam for three days on the island—and he was a pleasure to be around. Having grown up on the island, he was a wealth of knowledge, and always willing to offer it. He made certain we saw what he considered to be the great highlights of his home, and they were all nothing short of spectacular. The Tour Guide Samuel was exellent! Very proffessional, very accurate, very polite and decent! Super friendly! The hike was superb! Amazing views and the info provided by the guide were awsome! His english was also exellent and he provided water and walking sticks! On top of that, he refered us to his dad, a taxi driver, who took us on a ride to the furnace and it was one of the best trips in the Azores! I highly recommend to go on this tour! Value for money is exellent!

We did two full day tours with Green Corner Tours while staying in Ponta Delgada. This company is owner operated and I’d highly recommend booking here if you’re looking to tour around Sao Miguel Island. Samuel is very knowledgeable. I don’t think there’s a question you can ask him that he won’t have an answer for. His tours are well laid out hitting all the spots that you want to see and even some spots you didn’t know you wanted to see but are glad you did! Samuel is a safe, professional driver who operates a newer well maintained van for his tours. We were in the Azores for 9 days, visiting four islands. The two days touring Sao Miguel Island with Green Corner Tours were the best tours we had on our vacation. Highly recommended

This tour was incredible!!! Samuel was so accommodating - we didn't have a ton of time in port (we were on a transatlantic cruise), so he was waiting for us when we walked off the ship. He was so communicative with us ahead of time (even over the weekend as we visited on a Sunday). As we didn't want to get in the hot springs, we got more time at the tea plantation, stopped at some amazing viewpoints, and walked around the town of Furnas. We loved not being on a group tour - we got as much time to shop or explore as we wanted instead of being on someone else's timeline. We stopped in Furnas for some liqueur tasting - one of the few souvenirs we brought home! Our 5.5-year-old son was so intrigued by the island, the cows, the hot springs, the volcano, and Samuel was so patient with him & answered his endless questions. Our son loved trying the água azeda in Furnas! Samuel was so patient & understanding with my dad's mobility too (he has had 4 major back surgeries) - he would drop us off and he walked at Dad's pace. We loved learning more about the Azores Islands, as it was our first time visiting. We can't wait to come back and stay for a longer period - our first call will be to Samuel to set up some longer tours and hikes!!! We saw some amazing cities on our cruise, but we all agreed that Ponta Delgada was our favorite port. We attribute that to this incredible tour with Samuel!!!

IF YOU ARE IN THE AZORES DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BOOK THIS TOUR!!! Samuel is the owner operator of the tour and he was amazing. This is a completely private tour and he will take you anywhere you want in the four hours. If you are unsure he has plenty of options for you so you don't necessarily need to already do research. We had booked a tour of the West side of the island a few days before but weather was not good so all the viewpoints were blocked by clouds . So we decided to try again with Green Corner Tours and we are glad we did. We told Samuel what we actually did get to see already (Sete Ciudades and Pineapple plantation) so he said he won't double up and suggested a West Coast itinerary and it was amazing. He knew all the right places for the best views (which weren't necessarily the main parking viewpoints), he took us off the beaten path in the country side and took us to the north and west coasts with stunning views. He is from Sao Miguel and is super knowledgeable about the island. At the end he offered to drop us off wherever we wanted and we asked for lunch suggestions and he dropped us off at an excellent steak restaurant which was walking distance back to the hotel. Absolutely amazing adventure!!

Samuel came to pick us up at our hotel and began telling us about the island and answering any questions we had about the Azores! He drove us to a little village near Nordeste. It was a beautiful drive arriving at the beginning of the trail to this waterfall. On the way he explained the significance of the abandon town. We also saw some lovely chickens and roosters on our way. There is a degree of difficulty to this hike but most of it is under the folliage of the trees. Such a breath-taking finish to come to the beautiful waterfall. It took us a few hours and afterwards, Samuel took us for a snack and then we went to the hot springs for a relaxing bath after our hike. Samuel was very accomodating and very informative on all questions about the island. I hightly recommend booking this trip. Samuel is outstanding! He was the best guide we had all week. Make sure you give him as much notice as possible. He books ahead and fills up quickly. Michelle from Canada

Fantastic tour of the whole Island of Sao Miguel! One of the most informative and memorable tours we have ever taken… local guide Sam is the local to see for a truly wonderful experience!

This is an exceptional hiking tour along a beautiful trail through a rustic village and up and down a lush forested mountain. The three waterfalls along the trail are stunning. Samuel, our guide and tour operator, skillfully and safely helped us navigate the terrain and made the most of our experience by telling us about the flora and rock formations along the trail. The Gorreana tea plantation was a lovely stop after a vigorous hike. Samuel’s explanation about tea harvesting and processing was very informative. The warm cup of tea was most welcome!

We were visiting Sao Miguel on an anniversary trip and went on the half day Furnas tour with Samuel without having any real idea what we were going to see. It was even better than we could have imagined. We stopped a few times on the way to Furnas and leaned about the island, some History, etc. The highlight was the hot springs and botanical garden, which we will definitely return to someday, and seeing the Calderas area. Highly recommend for an enjoyable tour!!! Would absolutely use Green Corner Tours again!

Samuel was very nice and informative! I had a guided half day tour to do whatever I choose. He listened to what my likes and dislikes are, and customized a trip for me. I love to hike so he brought me to a beautiful spot with breathtaking views! He even hiked it with me! He’s awesome and I highly recommend using his services

We met Sam on a city tour of Ponta Delgado booked with another company. While the group walked around a botanical garden, I stopped to ask him about the Azores becoming autonomous, its history, the Portuguese language, anything I could think of. He was so personable and interesting, it was a mini-class. When he said he gave private tours with his own company, we jumped at the chance to take a day trip with him. The day was absolutely wonderful! We visited Furnas and went to the hot springs. We went to the place where people bury pots of food that cook with volcanic heat (see photos), we saw breathtaking views, had a delicious lunch, went to a tea factory, and had a fantastic time. Sam is a superlative tour guide. We spent the day talking like new friends, about all the sights , but also about the environment, geography, volcanoes, life in the Azores (he is a native, after all), the economy, politics, his life, our lives, and he answered any question we could think of. It was fascinating and great fun! We have traveled all over the world, and certainly taken a good number of tours. This one will always be extra memorable. I’m sure any tour with Sam would be the same.
