    What to Expect
Make your way to the Steamer Wharf at Queenstown’s waterfront, and present your voucher for a cruise on the TSS Earnslaw. The "TSS" in the name stands for “twin screw steamer”, and the TSS Earnslaw is the last remaining coal-fired passenger steamer in the southern hemisphere, propelled by a pair of screw propellers mounted on either side of the hull.
You’ll have time to explore the ship during the 1.5-hour cruise, and don’t miss the chance to head below decks to the engine room, where stokers feed a roaring coal fire. Explore the small onboard museum that's located in in the forecastle, or head to the TSS Earnslaw’s café, where snacks and drinks are available for purchase. There are also dramatic views of the mountains that surround the lake, which has a maximum depth of 1,250 feet (380 meters) before making the return trip across Lake Wakatipu to Queensland’s Steamer Wharf, where this tour concludes.

This is so worth doing especially to see the workings of this beautiful old ship which was launched the year before the Titanic was! We didn't do the farm visit. Just the cruise across the lake and back again but this was perfect to do...More

Enjoyed the experience. Had some issues hearing the commentary at times but generally well done. Booking the trip earlier and the way the operation was run made it a very easy process for us.

Mike G, the scenery is certainly stunning. We will review the sound quality of the commentary throughout the trip as wasn't aware we were experiencing any issues. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the experience.

To ride a vintage steam ship is already an unforgettable experience. The cruise to Walter peak is easy and relaxing one. To see the nature thru the ship is still breathtaking.

This cruise turned out to be a definite 'don't do' - on loading, the shore crew were pathetic, lost control & panicked - it was lucky that no one was injuredMore

Fiona H, I believe that you travelled at the peak of our season. I have spoken to our operational staff to try and interpret your feedback. So, all I can say is that prior to you boarding, there would have been a lot of people...More

We heard that this was a great and unusual experience to travel in a coal fired steamer on the photogenic Lake Wakatipu out of Queenstown. We thought that the steamer had so many passengers that it marred the experience. It was difficult to take photographs...More

August is low season being Winter - the crowds we saw were in the peak Summer months. Hope this helps. Edward
