The historical village set up is very nice with minimal impact for being exposed to souvenir shops and such. They have regular performances and the staff is courteous.

Sorry for the delay. The best way to get there cost effectively would be using the yen bus to a point then maybe a cab. You would be surprised how many would be willing to give you a ride.
