There are some interesting exhibits and some I found unfathomable. This was worth the stop to us when it was not that pleasant for walking outside. A couple of hours was enough.

The spider reminded me of the Bilbao museum - inside there is so much to see and a great temperate place to walk around on a cold, windy, rainy day.

What a wonderul experience we had. The Gauguin exhibition was so interesting but also the rest of the museum exhibits. You can have a meal or drink there also. We had a soda and waited to go to the Bymward Market for lunch. Visit the...More

A diverse selection of art in a wonderful building. In fact the building was a highlight in itself, so if you haven’t got time for a full visit I’d still recommend popping in. On the ground floor there’s a nice boutique and we ended with...More

This summer, I enjoyed the fine curatorship and terrific temporary Gauguin exhibit at Canada's National Gallery, a wonderful eyeful of delicious impressionist art, actually all portraits painted by an intrepid Tahiti travelling Gauguin. While the National Gallery hosts amazing temporary exhibits, including Rodin, Picasso and...More

We visited the Impressionist, Aboriginal Indigenous, (Canadian Photographic collection was closed and preparing for a new installation), and Group of Seven. The collections are vast and efficiently described and one could spend days there and find something new to revel in and appreciate with each...More

The real art is the building and not some of the junk that is inside it. The building is an architectural wonder that is very impressive. We enjoyed some of the basic works that you would expect to find in a national gallery. What is...More

The Gallery has a large and varied collection of paintings, drawings, sculpture and photographs. Although its focus is on Canadian art, it holds works by many noted American and European artists. It has a strong contemporary art collection. It's a must see while in Ottawa.
