This is a simple and very moving plaque on the outside wall of St Bartholomew’s Hospital in West Smithfield opposite the southern entrance to Smithfield Market. The location is close to the place where William Wallace was executed in 1305 for his part in leading...More

Considering how influential Wallace was and how important he is to our friends from the north this memorial could so easily be missed. Behind the park opposite Smithfield Mkt on walk of St Bart’s.

Had been easily missed if the flag wasn't there. I brought my own flag in case there wasn't one,but there was. Now,maybe this is mostly for the Scots, historybuffs or Braveheartfans, but there is so much else to see in the immediate area that there's no...More

But for the Scottish flag, miraculously still intact, you might easily miss this wonderful memorial to William Wallace. Take time to pop inside St. Bart's, too.

This memorial plaque to the great Scottish Independence fighter, William Wallace. It sits on a wall of St. Bartholomew's Hospital near the site of Wallace's execution at The Elms, Smithfield. It's easy to missed, but worth seeking out by Scots.

A small plaque on side of hospital. You could easily miss it. Recognises the fact that William Wallace was executed close by.

Amazing to think that over 700 years ago, William Wallace was hanged, drawn and quartered near to this spot in Smithfield. As an exiled Scot it was quite emotional to visit the memorial.

Heard about this and had to see it as I’ve lived half my life in Scotland. Worth a look as not too far from St Paul’s. liked the fact that people have left flags and flowers. Certainly worth a look if you’re in the area.

Because it represents something very important to me, personally and emotionally, as well as historically, I have to come here every time I visit London. If you are passionate about history and places of memory, it's a place not to be missed !
